Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. Why not just calculate time to destroy as

 val single_clip_time = health/((damage_per_shot*shots_per_clip)/time_to_empty_clip)-mallet_rps)
 if single_clip_time <= time_to_empty_clip
 then single_clip_time
 else health/((damage_per_shot*shots_per_clip)/(time_to_empty_clip+time_to_reload)-mallet_rps)

I feel like that should be a lot faster, and unless I'm mistaken it should still give you the correct answer, save for a small error from the fact that it's treating the damage as continuous instead of discrete.

(obviously if the time to destroy comes out negative then the answer is that mallet repairs faster than that weapon breaks)

I agree with all of that. I mean, if you're really, truly tired of having low-level teammates lose you games and want a practical solution, crewing up with friends is always a good move.

Novices pilot in novice. Just maybe not in non-novice.

This is a great tool :) Salute!

edit: that said, are you calculating shots/time to destroy a component with a loop? It's really slow ): you should just divide the component HP by the DPS from each weapon...

Q&A / Re: Killing and destroying
« on: February 28, 2015, 05:34:21 pm »
Thanks, Daniel. Actually I remember helping Lue with that one...

I feel like the description for that should be "kill x ships" and just not have the (crew) marker. I'll email feedback about this.

edit: looking through the game data I'm seeing a lot of achievements that talk about destroying ships, with and without (crew). I'm not sure if there's supposed to be a distinction--I suspect the two words are used interchangeably, and the presence or absence of the (crew) marker is what tells you if you need to do it yourself or not.

I like Richard's idea--I actually think it's a good idea for new players to start out by engineering and gunning until they understand how things work, and then start piloting. Maybe it would be a good idea to encourage that a little more somehow.

It's nearly 20 years old and never released outside of Japan, but Velldeselba Senki will always be rather dear to me

The airship designs are great:

I tried to get Archriel to play it a while ago but he never did ):

Gameplay / Re: 1.4.0 Pyra. Too much stick?
« on: February 27, 2015, 11:06:11 pm »
Expanding on what Thomas has already said, what made the Pyra powerful and easy to crew was the fact that you can have perfect repair and chem coverage (IE, all* components can be on cooldown, always) while also having massive damage output (two light guns with fully overlapping arc plus rams) and without ever needing to take crew off guns to repair. No other ship can do that, so all the other ships require much more experienced crew to operate at full capacity. The nerfs didn't address any of that.

*Except for your rear flare but this is not important.

Q&A / Re: Killing and destroying
« on: February 27, 2015, 10:57:55 pm »
Pilot achievements marked "(crew)" are counted for you if anyone on your crew gets it. As a gunner or engineer you need to actually kill the ship--that is, deal the finishing blow, or be the last person to have dealt damage to it if it dies by colliding with terrain.

I can't think of any achievements that call for "destroying ships", and I'm pretty sure that's a mistake. Can you say which achievements exactly have that? It should probably be reported to muse.
