I think it would be helpful given the low player count for the match maker to expand and contract lobbies to fit the number of players more preciously. So if it has a 2v2 running and 2 shiploads of crew log in it should expand the lobby into a 3v3. Mabey it is a 4v4 and 2 crews arrive it splits into 2 smaller lobbies. This would also increase the number of 3v3 and 4v4 which I think players like.

Security guard's report from dock 21 B.

I was doing my rounds as usual. It was about 2:10, 2:15, somewhere in there. I saw a man in a long coat, and a cap. He looked like an airman for sure. I started toward him I planned to get him for suspicious loitering and trespassing. Then I was hit on the side of my head. I fell and reached for my pistol. I couldn't see the face of the gal who had hit me, but I heard her voice because she said don't shoot. I realise now that that saved my life it wasn't intended for me but the man in the long coat. With one arm she pinned my pistol with the other she forced a liquid down my throat.
Notes: The ship at that dock was a type B pyramidion bound for Yesha. It was searched and nothing out of the ordinary was found save a spy glass found in the kitchen, which was later lost.

I think perhaps a more effective way for players to advance is to facilitate a skilled captain and 1 or 2 crew to take on 1 or 2 apprentices then hold a competition after some time, next weekend Sunday or something, between ships all of whom took on pseudo random (It should try to ensure personality's work.) apprentices the week before. That way the low level player  has a chance at:
  • Skills
  • Balanced play
  • Competitive play
  • A longer term team

Ps: That last one will grow the pool.

I like the muffled sounds because it interrupts communications but doesn't stop a well trained crew from functioning. but it can't work because some people play it over skype or in the same room.

Firstly, Because guns of Icarus has so few players I worry about splitting the pool. Second, you will never get a pool large enough for good match making.

PS: This might be something to work into (or run similarly) the chaos events.

I feel like I should tell you Mr. Owl is a smuggler. And I'm planning a sub plot around that. I don't what best practice is for introducing it. Also open to suggestions.

I think a modified flare gun wouldn't be too bad.
Effect: white screen for 4 seconds muffled sounds for 8.
counter: welding goggles, takes a piloting slot, dims the screen when too bright, +8% repair. Always active.
