Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Slot Locking
« on: September 02, 2017, 02:56:32 am »
This thread has been locked for dissolving into name calling and complete off topic arguments.

I would like to remind all players of our community of the community standards: http://gunsoficarus.com/community-standards/, and that these are also our forum rules. Please keep all posts free from this kind of chat. If you have any feedback to the developers that does not fall under the topic of the thread, please email feedback@musegames.com

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: A cry for change
« on: January 17, 2017, 01:01:26 am »
The devs have read and considered this thread, I messaged them myself. Due to the nature of the thread, they want to produce worthy response and to assess some inner workings

I for one do agree change needs to be made, and communication is very poor. However progress cannot possibly come as fast as we might like. MUSE is a small dev team and alliance has deadlines they need to meet to be able to produce the game. A lot of time, effort and money have gone into it and returns need to be made. While vets might like skirmish mode more, the general community and new players prefer the PVE mode over skirmish. It has already shown to be more popular as it is more fun and less competitive, and the devs obviously want to try to spread the game to more people. In addition development of the game takes time. Adding features, altering maps, implementing functions all take time to make and with a small dev team already tasked with making what is basically a brand new game, progress is slow.

What I think might help is this: an open to the public, and regularly updated list of "things to do" made by Muse that contains deadlines and regular progress updates. A simple trello page containing ideas they want to implement, or some calendar showing what they want to do in the future would be a big help to the community so we know what is going on and what to expect. It might help us feel like our feedback is being noticed and that we can expect change in the future. Change is needed, communication needs to be clearer, and players need to feel like their input is being heard.

Don't half-ass the stream production. Just compare the quality of my stream to the quality of the other streams from last year's tournament. I'm an amateur like everyone else—if I can do it, you can do it.

Common quality mistakes:

Low bitrate (bitrate should be between 1800-3000)
Low resolution (720p minimum)
Wrong aspect ratio (aspect ratio should be 16:9 as to not cause black bars)
Poor audio balancing (one caster louder than other, game sound too loud/quiet)
Casters with bad microphones
Not showing team names in-game
Using the included "cinematic filters" (they look like garbage in compressed video)

You should also spend some time making decent looking graphics, and not just paste the game capture over a background. This includes:

A lobby scene that shows the players as they join, team logos, caster names, and for extra points—the game count and upcoming map
A scene with the current bracket
Break scene if you don't want to fill time in-between sets
Pre-tournament scene with countdown timer

SO to quell the reports coming in, and to come back out of the shadows myself, the video Urz is calling out is mine. That was TheObviousShow its well... infant stages lets say. I had been asked maybe 1 hours before the event to stream, had serious connection issues, and was very new to  OBS. He makes very good points as to where my stream saw MAJOR quality flaws. While it might not seem like the nicest thing to do, I personally do not care that he has pointed it out and am glad he is. It was reviewing my own work that lead me to improve my channels casting quality and become one of GOIOs more prominent streamers for a time.

For those who are familiar with my casting, I believe you can see that my own channel improved from its humble beginnings and I learned a lot along the way. I am also happy to say I am coming out of retirement (if I can call it that) to cast this event! I bring to the table new skills in video editing, recording, and video quality as well as hardware upgrades to best improve overall quality.

TO ADDRESS ALL THE REPORTS: Stop reporting the post. I don't care he called out my channel, yea asking first before shamming the video with my logo in it would have been nice, but he makes a point to increase quality for an event like this. Not the nicest way to say it, but I don't care so stop worrying+reporting about it. In the future, try not to call out other channels. There is a great need for streamers and people have to start somewhere. Offer help, not public shame

At the conclusion of the match, Candles are awarded and are proportional to a 1st, 2nd, 3rd ranking based upon points scored in the match. For example the team that scored the most points will receive 6 candles, while the team with the second most receives 5, and so on until the last place team receives 1. NOTE: Tournament organizers maintain the right to change a team's division based upon performance. Prior notification to the team will be made.

Points scoring

The tournament will be scored according to two point systems: points and candles. Points are awarded in each individual game based upon the rules set for the weekly gamemode and will include actions such as ship kills, point defense, and similar in game activities. At the conclusion of the match, Candles are awarded and are proportional to a 1st, 2nd, 3rd ranking based upon points scored in the match. For example the team that scored the most points will receive 6 candles, while the team with the second most receives 5, and so on until the last place team receives 1. Candles are recorded week by week and will decide overall division score and rank. Winners of the tournament are the teams of their respective division with the most candles earned over 5 weeks.

Tournament Steam Group

In addition to requiring teams to sign up each week, all ships must list a point of contact (does not have to be who posted the sign up). This point of contact must join an open steam group that is titled “Cake Unbirthday Tournament” Link is provided here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/CakeUnbirthday#events/ . This steam group will be how game referees contact participants. Once a lobby has been opened, an announcement will be made in the group alerting players when they may join. The format of these announcements will be similar to “Match number # is now open, please join (referee in game name)” where match number will be given on the schedule posted before the event. Teams will also be given an “on deck” notification in this message alerting them of which match they can expect to open next. Only teams listed in the corresponding match on the schedule should join, and passwords should not be shared with players who have not signed up.

GAMEMODE ANNOUNCED!

This week's gamemode is going to be a 3v3 Capture Point or Crazy King matchup! Come along and try to capture points against your foes. Be sure to co-operate with the ships joining your team!
We're going to be shuffling the teams around match by match so you'll get a chance to fly alongside many of the other ship teams. Each round will use a different map to keep things fresh all the way through.

The rules for winning are the essential same as what you would do when playing a Capture Point or Crazy King normally. Capture the stripy balloon points to earn your way to victory! The map referees will be enforcing a 15 second pause at the start of the game in order to let everyone suit up, load in and prepare themselves.

Be ready to be adaptable. You'll be playing with different team-mates each match so be ready to co-operate! Your collective wealth of Candles stand together. Good luck!!!!!!!

If a ship is on fire, or in a position where there balloon is popped, that would be considered active combat and a pause would not be called. Though if a pilot blows out their own balloon by accident during the pause, I am willing to bet we can make an exception. I would say you cant repair it past what it was.

Hey Guns Of Icarus, Do You Like Fire?

The Cake Clan's Annual Tournament, the Unbirthday Tournament is back in town!
Check Out The Event's Trailer On This Link

https://youtu.be/fyPlBCP6sds

NOTE: This thread is not a sign up thread. The first sign ups will be posted July 4th, and the first day for matches will be July 16th. This is designed to gather interest and feedback from potential participants.

The Unbirthday Tournament is an annual event hosted and run by the Cake Clan. Following the Cake’s founding principles, the Unbirthday Tournament is a competitive level tournament where fun is not just encouraged but required by all participants. We encourage players of all skill level to participate in our weekly matches!

Tournament Structure and Schedule
The Unbirthday Tournament is Round Robin style structure with single ship sign up that will be scored as their own team (1 Ship=4 Players=1 Team). These teams will compete in weekly game modes where points will be rewarded and tracked through the duration of the season. The tournament will begin Sat. July 16th at 7:00PM UTC (3:00PM EST), and will run for 5 consecutive weeks every Saturday at the same time.

Each week, the gamemode of the tournament will change. The rules of each week's game mode will be announced in its respective weekly sign up post  in the form of a listed rule set as well as an instructional video/trailer. (see sign ups for information on weekly sign ups). All other information players are required to know will be posted in this thread as well including that week's point system.

Every match in the tournament will be scheduled on Challonge, an online bracket website. A link to the brackets will be provided before the event on the weekly sign up forum post, and in the Tournament Steam Group. All matches will be recorded as well, and VODs will be posted to a Youtube channel linked on the weekly sign up page.

Signing Up

Sign Ups for the tournament will be on a weekly basis and open the Monday before that respective week’s tournament. The sign ups will be posted in the Guns Of Icarus Community Forum under “Community Events” and will be titled “Unbirthday Tournament Sign Ups Week #___”. A format for the sign ups will be posted in those threads. The first week sign ups will begin a week earlier than the others, and open on Monday July 4th. Though points do transition week to week, a team is free not to for a particular week but will receive no points for the week. Teams must be signed up at least 12 hours in advance to participate. Late sign ups must speak with tournament management to ensure proper scheduling.

Teams may also volunteer to be “mercenaries” for the tournament. In addition to participating in the tournament as a normal team, a mercenary may be called to fill a vacant ship spot in the case of team drop-out or tournament schedule conflicts. When playing as a mercenary, the team will not receive any points,

Tournament Steam Group

In addition to requiring teams to sign up each week, all ships must list a point of contact (does not have to be who posted the sign up). This point of contact must join an open steam group that is titled “Cake Unbirthday Tournament” Click Here to be brought to that steam group: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/CakeUnbirthday This steam group will be how game referees contact participants. Once a lobby has been opened, an announcement will be made in the group alerting players when they may join. Point System

The point system listed here is subject to change and is open to suggestions.

Score will be awarded to players with in-match points and candles. In-match points are awarded based on the actions of a ship within a match, and will depend on on the week's gamemode. Candles are awarded based on points scored in a 1st, 2nd, 3rd method after each match and are the method of score used to determine winners of the overall tournament. To clarify, here is an example

Example
Week 1) Gamemode: 4 ship all mines free for all matches, 3 Round
Scoring Rules: 2 points for a kill, 1 for assist
Final Results Round 1
Ship 1: 5 points 1st place Reward 4 Candles
Ship 2: 3 Points 2nd place Reward 3 Candles
Ship 3: 2 Points 3rd place Reward 2 Candles
Ship 1: 1 Points 4th  place Reward 1 Candles

Since the tournament will result in multiple rounds for each game mode, with each team participating in 1 match per round. Candles will be awarded at each round. To use the previous example, if 3 rounds commence with the same 4 ships facing each other and each round has the same result, Team 1 has 12, Team 2 has 9, Team 3 has 6, and Team 1 has 3. In actual execution, these teams would not square off every time, but would be mixed with other tournament participants.

NOTE: The following idea is one management would like to use in the case of a large tournament turn out where skill levels spread across a broad range. This method is being developed to encourage the attendance of teams new to the competitive field.

For the overall victors of the tournament, an idea for "divisions" is being debated ( example: Masters, Journeyman, and Novice). In this method, teams will be placed in divisions based upon crew experience and will have separate leader boards (specific criteria for each division is in debate). Teams placed in a certain division will NOT play against only members of their division and will be used only as a method of scoring or for organization of team based matches. To use the example from above, any of those teams can exist in the different divisions and still receive the same amount of candles at the end of the round. No handicap is awarded for points or candles. Winners of each division receive prizes at the end of the tournament.

Rules
(These rules are subject to change until the date of first sign up, July 4th)

  • Teams must sign up 12 hours in advance for each week. All late sign ups must contact tournament managers to see if they can be accommodated into the schedule.
Teams cannot change names between weeks.
  • During matches, the displayed ship’s name must be the same as the team name listed on the weekly sign up and must be the same through the tournament.
  • A lobby timer of 4 minutes will be started by the referee once 50% of the match participants have arrived. Failure to arrive on time will result in the prospective team’s slot being filled by a mercenary ship.
  • Matches may include a lobby timer depending on the week’s given gamemode.
  • Teams must have at least one member who is a on the ship of a participating team join the steam group. Teams are responsible for knowing which matches they are in and should be on time to their scheduled matches. All notifications for schedualed matches will be announced via the steam group including password and referee name, mercenary ships will be contacted via steam or in game private message.
  • The gamemode will be announced each week in the weekly sign up post. Players are expected to know the rules and gameplay laid out in the sign up post and instructional video. Failure to play in according to the rules dictated may result in disqualification for that week.
  • At the start of the match, a 20s timer will be started by the referee(s) where all teams cannot move ship position. This allows players to load in if needed.
  • Each team will be allowed one 2 minute pause and will follow the preceding conditions:
Pauses must be requested by a team, and them must be confirmed by a referee before the pause is active

A pause may not be called while in active combat. The guidelines to define combat be when at least two ships are actively engaging combat, are spotted within a 1km of another ship, or in a position where combat could ensue during the pause (i.e. clouds move during the pause to reveal enemies are right next to each other). However, approving a pause are at the discretion of the referee

During a pause, all ships must halt movement and refrain from weapon use. Ship crew are NOT to repair any component or maintain an active buff, but may pre-buff a component that ran off of
buff prior to the pause.

Pauses can only be requested to end by the player who requested the pause, and ships may only move/engage once the referee has confirmed the end of the pause or has called the end of pause themselves due to timer exhaustion
  • A team in the lobby can ask for an additional minute on the timer for emergency.
  • All players are expected to act with good sportsmanship and friendly conduct at all time
  • Match chat is to be used for communication with the referees only. This includes time check requests and pauses.
  • Substitutes may be used on a ship, but they may not substitute for more than 1 ship per week.
