Gameplay / Re: Reload time to damage on gun ratio?

Reeeeeeeealy... if this is true then the notion that a gun with 1hp left is as dangerous as a gun with full hp just took one on the noggin

Why do people pair flak up with gatling guns? It seems like it's gimping the flak guns range. Wouldn't the Scylla mortar be a better fit for the gatling gun? Better sustained DPS and no minimum range to worry about.
Mortar is what is usually used, yes. Flak pairs better with Hades.
I prefer the mercury to the Hades, but only because i have a hard time hitting anything with the Hades.

My nightmares are fueled by competent Hades gunners.   :o

my favorite story is that time I asked someone to stop they didn't and i gave them a 30 minute time out. I haven't seen em since ^.^

I really think I like you XD

My first experience with the game was pretty good. I happened to find a decent (read: PATIENT) captain who took my bumbling in good humor while I learned the ropes a bit. Lately the scene feels quite a bit more toxic in regards to respect and good sportsmanship (both sore winners and losers).  Hang in there I guess, there are good people here.

I think you pretty well nailed it Crafeksterty.

I can think of two changes that could be made to give Gunners more utility on a ship:
#1) drop / limit the Engineer's ammo slot
#2) when a gun is loaded with an ammo type it should stay loaded with that type until changed by someone else.

Thoughts?

As an engineer, as everything is going all wrong...

Usually me chanting, "f***, f***, f***,..." to myself  ;D

Q&A / Re: How to handle silent or noncommunicative crews

also another trick is to park your ship in a safe corner of the map where there are no enemies in sight and explain to the crew how the ship is going to work and wait for responses (which at times come in the form of DCs)

Where the f-sauce have you been? Almost every match I start waiting for crew duty assignments and the only response is usually the engines starting up and us turning toward the enemy.

It's gotten so bad that I'll usually contact my fellow engineer to work out who's on hull detail

I'd rather have engineers not be allowed to carry an ammo type at all than gunners carry two engineer tools, just throwing that out. I'm not suggesting it, but if it is that crucial to enforce a gunner on every ship this feels better than a lot of the suggestions I've so far read.

This sounds like a good idea to me, seconded.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: The role of an Engineer

Some engineers are responsible for Everything, buffing and repairing and Gunning. This is probably the hardest and most effective one to have. However you loose the ability for him to spot as he is in his limits.

Again, not clan but pub matches, every attempt of mine to play as a buffgineer has resulted in me feeling like a lead-weight around my captain's neck.  Not a feeling I enjoy at all and I doubt it's earning me any friends.

I'm finding that the pipe wrench just isn't good enough to keep the hull up in a heavy firefight.  Maybe there's something I'm missing or doing wrong, I'd love some pointers.

(stares angrily at the buffing achievements)

Gameplay / Re: 1.3.6 Hotfix Flamethrower

Ha, finally a greenhorn voicing his opinion - thanks XtremeNameX!

This... is such a different reception than I witnessed from World of T... some other game's forums that I'm pleasantly shocked to see it.  I thank you.

I suppose there's a reason I'm playing this game and not that one anymore XD

Anyway, back OT.  My first experiences with the flamethrower were truly terrifying.  Everything's on fire, the captain is screaming at me, I can't get things under control fast enough... boom  :D

Maybe it's because I knew already that I was going to be terrible for my first few matches that I didn't let it bother me and back into the flames I went again and again and slowly (probably too slowly for some teams, my apologies to those I doomed to being roasted to a delicious golden brown) I learned my firefighting techniques and how the equipment actually works (AND THE TUTORIAL IS A BIG FAT LIAR!  It specifically states that the fire extinguisher does not start a cooldown).  Now I've swapped the FE out for a chemical sprayer and you better believe I keep my boots worn down sprinting through the ship making sure everything's sprayed down once enemy contact is immanent.  Things go so much better for us these days, I can only think of one incident in recent times when fire was a deciding factor in an engagement (20 stacks on our hwatcha kind of put us out of the fight... lucky our teammate was right there and on the ball.)

My personal feelings is that while the flamethrower is indeed terrifying to new players I don't think it's OP...  but I do think it's a great tool for making sure those engineers stay in top physical shape ;D

take it for what it's worth

OP may have a point, although I think a mix of both among the crew would likely be the best bet.  Personally I'll stick with my chem sprayer for now because I like the "ounce of prevention" it provides.  It's been sufficient on every ship I've been on so long as the pilot is kind enough to steer us out of the flames before too long.  ;)

Sounds similar to a recent incident I had. Pilot flew straight into the teeth of a pair Pyros armed with flak and mercurys with predictable results and spent the rest of the match berating the engineer (me) for not keeping the ship repaired.

Going to be some in every crowd I guess.
