Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Heavy Weapon Suggestions
« on: November 28, 2014, 05:21:10 pm »
These obviously belong here. (images are links to the containing threads)

Ixion Flame Vortex Cannon

...

Every time I see a new medium (or heavy, depending on how you see / name them) weapons thread, it reminds me of this suggestion.

Whenever anyone suggests a new medium weapon it always has words along the lines of 'massive damage' and some aspect of it being better than anything else and leading to it being OP, but the Vortex cannon just fits into a completely viable and balanced niche that isn't filled by anything right now. Plus... Flames and impact?! :D

Isn't the timer on top of the screen slowed down during slowmo and thus accurate? Instead of redoing the lobby, couldn't the scorekeeper use the in-game capture point timer to calculate the seconds and substract them from the actual timer, which is paused during the slowmo and then continue normally after slowmo?

+1 to this. Every other option is unfair to one party - as I could rightfully claim we were winning and in a good position at the time of slowmo. Our opponents have an equal right to claim a comeback could have happened - they had a strong start after all.

Fight through slowmo and adjust / disable lobby timer accordingly is the only fair option

General Discussion / Re: What's wrong with heavy guns?
« on: November 05, 2014, 08:52:40 am »
Biggest problem with galleons right now is it only takes one hwacha or one heavy carronade on a goldfish with half-decent positioning to effectively counter one.  Or any carronade or disabling build for that matter.

I second this, and put forward the addition of lumber fish as an effective counter. I would like to say rather than the medium guns being underpowered (excluding Hflak... unless the hull is down  :P But I'm fine with that) that it is the galleon and spire that are countered too easily by anything that can pop a balloon. The fact that three out of four medium guns make a respectable goldfish build means I don't think they need any kind off buff or help

I'm also fine with the medium guns being easy to disable though - if you don't want your guns down you should kill or disable the other ship first.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Eliminate AI Gunners
« on: August 28, 2014, 04:15:48 am »
If for some reason you choose to be an engineer captain (I've seen it work well on galleons sometimes) and you have more than one AI on your crew, you get stuck with TWO AI gunners, thus crippling you even further.

This. So much this. The situation I find myself in mostly is putting a misplaced amount of faith in relatively green captain. They die once then rage quit.

What happens next? You now have 2x Engi's, 1x Gunner and 1x AI gunner - you are forced to make a trade-off of having an AI gunner perform repairs / alternating shooting and gunning or just setting it to gun and having your human gunner fly, negating the option of having ammos.

Be gone with them!  :P

Gameplay / Re: Lets Talk Gatling
« on: August 26, 2014, 04:21:10 am »
I think the Gatling is actually some of the most balanced it has been for a while - with a good Hades gunner it can be outdone at range.

Back when I started out I remember getting told to bring nothing but heavy clip, sitting on the Gatling and watching it literally shoot for miles. Let's not go back to that please  ;)

General Discussion / Re: Ship names

Oh and I've heard people refer to a Carronade/Flamer Pyramidion as 'The Rainbow Crash' before after redria's Pyramidion.

It's an interesting build; in redria's pyra guide he refers to it as Urz's Flamer as he saw Urz use it first - although this was a long time ago and I might be mistaken. But then again, I've spent too much time looking at the rainbow crash nuzzling up to the starboard side of my pyra flaming and carronading away :P

Don't forget the all banshee Cake mobula 'Platform Birthday'. Although it was quite a while ago, crewing on that was probably some of the most fun I've had a mob  :P

Although that may just be a ship name. But I'm sure it was used by a couple of different pastries, so could (and should) be the name of this layout

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Flame Vortex Cannon: Ixion
« on: August 21, 2014, 04:15:24 am »
This is both incredibly awesome and scary at the same time. As it is a ring of air moving at great speed, my first thought would be that it has a damage 'drop off' as the real life counterpart vortex would slow down as it progresses, and lose momentum. So at a predetermined maximum range the impact damage would be nothing, following some sort of curve up to damage maximum which would be more or less in front of the cannon.

If THAT was not enough to convince you, here is a video of what the real thing sounds like.

That noise.  :o

The Lounge / Re: Introductions!

I suppose I better make an introduction - I'm Moike, an NCO of Overwatch. I've actually been playing for over a year, and I do check the forums occasionally however I thought that I ought to join the forums at some point :P

I tend to Engi most of the time but you may have seen me pilot about in my pyra, That's A Paddlin', or my less serious galleon Show Me Hwacha Got (full of hwachery goodness as the name might suggest).
