Feedback and Suggestions / Muse, Please Stop the Youtubing
« on: December 13, 2015, 09:35:10 am »
We all get it. We know it worked fantastically to bring in new blood for a few years. No one is denying it was effective, but it is not anymore. Stop throwing time and money at a dead horse. This is not the golden ticket to making GOIO more populated. Retention has to be fixed before any more promos. Let's take a look at the youtuber/sale figures, based off of steam charts. Green for spring sale, orange for fall sale.

March 25-April 29, 2013: Average players went from 366 to 2,009.

August 26-September 30, 2013: Average players went from 498 to 2,207.

Oct. 28-Nov. 25, 2013: Average players went from 392 to 1,835.

March 31-April 28, 2014: Average players went from 349 to 4,043.

August 25-November 2,237: Average players went from 457 to 2,237.

March 30-April 27, 2015: Average players went from 402 to 3,175.

Oct 26-Nov. 16, 2015: Average players went from 347 to 797.

As of Nov. 30th, that number stabilized at 456. I don't really need to say much more, to realize that number is drastically lower than any other sale. The youtuber thing is done. We have milked it dry. Please, stop. You guys need to come at sales, promos, and mo8st importantly retention at a new angle, or you won't have a population to greet Alliance when it is ready.

General Discussion / DLC/Micro-transaction Ideas
« on: December 09, 2015, 10:19:45 am »
A whiles back, somebody on a fireside suggested more shop items be added to supplement Muse's bank. Some ideas were gunner exclusive (or not) gun skins/trail effects, and more deck themes and figureheads. If anyone has played Depth, or Rocket League, they offer a lot of skins for weapons, cars, and sharks for a fee, so same idea.

Now the point of this thread is not to get into a good vs bad microtransaction debate. This is just for ideas, anything cosmetic that does not affect actual gameplay, to suggest adding to the in game store to increase Muse's revenue.

Community Events / TimmyB Season 2 Wrap-Up
« on: October 24, 2015, 05:07:21 am »

On behalf of the TimmyB Tournament crew, I'd like to thank everyone who participated and watched for supporting us!

It will take me a few weeks to get the points done, and then hand out the prizes. To the team leaders, if you would like an in-game badge for your team (subs included!), and participated at least once please send me a list of your team's in-game names to be submitted to Muse. Prize details will be given to the winning teams personally.

The TimmyB Tournament will return next fall. If you are interested in joining our team please contact me. We are looking for artists, producers, designers (game types, rules), casters, and judges. We start preliminary preparations in the spring!

If you have any general feedback (good or bad), please post it here. We are always looking to improve the tournament and provide a better experience!

TimmyB Tournament
season 2

Introduction

The TimmyB tournament is a Guns of Icarus tournament designed for all clans, all groups and all skill levels. It is a great way to get into the Guns of Icarus competitive scene, as it is a casual event and there will be few chances for the meta to be used. It is a tournament designed for the community members to meet each other, and to enjoy playing with each other. Throughout the course of the tournament participants will be playing with new people each week, and hopefully making new friends. The tournament will last for six consecutive weeks, starting September 19. The event will be held Saturdays at 2pm EDT.

The TimmyB tournament is a tournament designed by (you guess it) TimmyB. Sadly, he was never able to complete the project before he passed away to cancer. Through the friends he made in the community, and with the aid of many people within it such as Foxx, Caylin, Be'lanna, Eisbrecher, Ed Gauss, Gilder, the Muse team, the Gents, Brotherhood, Cake and too many others to name (please don't be offended if I missed you) we completed his tournament and brought you season 1 of the TimmyB tournament. We were happy to see many new and old players compete, and we had a very successful and fun season 1 to honor our friend's memory, and to see his dream fulfilled. And now, we bring you season 2...

Format

The tournament will be organized into random, 3v3 teams. The teams will be composed of individual ship sign-ups (maximum of four). Your ship does not have to sign-up for the tournament overall, they can sign up for as few or as many of the events as they wish. There will be a new sign-up every week. If possible, your ship will not play with ships you have previously played with in the tournament. Every week each participating ship will be designated points after the event, based off of how well they completed the goals of that week's event. At the end of the tournament, the shp with the most points wins. There are also many secret bonus points that your ship can acquire. How? who knows? Perhaps a new ship logo every week, or perhaps ram kills... The tournament will feature a new event each week. The events are:

Week 1: Standard Deathmatch
all ships, all weapons allowed
3v3
individual ship points for kills & assists: 10 points a kill, 5 for an assist. Assists are awarded if another ship penetrated or aided with explosive damage on the kill.

General Discussion / Was GOIO A Fluke?
« on: May 03, 2015, 02:05:33 pm »
*Before reading this keep in mind these are just the opinions of the strongly opinionated Byron, and I am not trying to start a flame war*

I think most vets will agree if asked that the first 6-8 months of GOIO was it's golden age. Even though the population was much smaller, the game itself was much more enjoyable and had an aura of a well developed game with a bright future. I think at that point any of us would have said the developers had good heads on their shoulders.

Flash forward to today, and I think that story is quite different for many of us. Ever since that first summer after GOIO's release we started seeing bad habits arise; heavy-handed and arbitrary nerfs or balance changes, little to no testing, the disastrous spawn system, match-making and ui releases. The seemingly random design directions that would stop at months at a time to chase a new project, only to drop that and go back to the previous project. The development of this game has gone from a promising start to aimless and frantic "shooting in the dark".

I am also aware from fireside chats and other sources that the development staff of GOIO has had quite a few turnovers, including artists and writers, which has lead to gaps and disconnects in the style and identity of the game.

So I had a musing (no pun intended)...was our original bar set too high? Was the game developed really well, and perhaps after losing a few individuals (and the rise of others) lost it's brilliance behind its design? I think we can all agree that the original game at release and even its concept is a beautiful one. I for one will always love anything steampunk, and especially anything airship and steampunk. But ever since release the quality of the game and it's development has been slowly but steadily gaining in a downward spiral. Perhaps it's like a painting; the concept of the painting is beautiful, but the artist got so focused on a few details that they lost focus on the whole piece and what it was originally.

Thoughts?

The Lounge / Verdun Tournament
« on: April 09, 2015, 12:51:26 am »
Not quite a GOIO thing, but I need some support from the community here. For any familiar with Verdun, they are starting a tournament soon. I applaud their devs for taking the initiative in getting their competitive scene rolling. I've always been frustrated with the GOIO devs lack of interest in taking control of their competitive scene or promoting it.

That being said, my team Hydra of the Brotherhood clan is looking for a few mercs from any clan or recruits as back-ups. Send me a message or check out http://thebrotherhoodofgoio.com/ and http://www.verdungame.com/tournament/
