Feedback and Suggestions / one very simple important change
« on: June 17, 2013, 02:36:49 pm »
Something that happens almost every time I have kerosene and hydrogen... I mistake them. On a big monitor in fury of combat it's easy to mistake them because they have very similar shapes. I would like to replace this:

With maybe this:

Or with something else. Just to do something to make the differences between them more visible.

I'm beginning to get a bit worried about the game. I've started playing GoI on April 21 and at that moment when playing usually about 21:00 - 23:00 (GMT+2:00) game had about 80-150 players waiting. In May there was this sudden influx of players caused by YouTube advertisements by known game reviewers. Average number of players waiting at that time was about 400 reaching sometimes even to 1000 or more. But now I don't see them. When I've been playing recently (well I don't play every day but let's say 4 times a week) I've noticed again just 70-150 players waiting. What happened to those players from may? Where are those 1000? Or even 500? And if they left then why?

That rises another, not really pleasant, question: What is the lifespan of GoI? How long will the skirmish mode be fun? Adventure mode is planned on July 2014, right? Does the current game really have content to provide fun for over a year to majority of players? It's normal to say that, as everything, GoI can get boring after a while. I'm already noticing it with my friends. I started to play GoI with 9 friends. After a month only 3 of them are still playing it. Maps are slowly getting known, same with ships. Are there enough ideas for skirmish to be released before Adventure Mode in order to keep the game entertaining?

Because if no, then... is there any pessimist scenario?

Gameplay / Where is a "Ramming guide"?
« on: June 02, 2013, 11:56:23 am »
It's also a tactic, right? I haven't found any guide to ramming on this forum but I would totally love to hear some advices about it. How to ram good, when, with what ship into what ship and with which loadout?

We can just discuss it here :). In the end someone could make a guide about it.

Gameplay / Bug or feature? Reparing junker's hull from below
« on: May 18, 2013, 07:49:06 pm »
I'm not sure if it's a bug or a feature but I've noticed that hull on Junker can be repaired from below and usually when I mention it to my crew they are all surprised. It's quite strange since I always repair it's hull this way. Being able to repair the hull from below makes it easy for both upper deck and lower deck engineer to take care of the hull, maybe even to easy that's why I'm starting to think that it may be a bug.

Just in case have a screenshot:

The Lounge / A poll for pen-and-paper RPG players
« on: May 18, 2013, 04:35:04 pm »
Hello

I would like to invite every paper-and-paper RPGs players (like D&D, Warhammer etc) to participate in a poll about RPG characters. The poll is needed for my girlfriend who is doing a university psychology project. You have to choose one of your RPG characters that you played with. The more developed character the better. All you have to do is answer 4 simple questions; 2 questions you yourself personally and the other 2 as if it was your character speaking. Answers don't have to be long; a few sentences is enough but if you want, you can write more. The poll is anonymous, that's why I want you to send your answers as a private message or to  p m a r c z e s k i @ g m a i l . c o m  and they will be deleted after being analyzed.

Questions:
1. Write a short biography about yourself. Who are you? Where do you come from? How to you feel in the surrounding reality?
2. Write about your chosen RPG character. What is his/her name? What is your attitude towards him/her? What can you say about him/her? How can you describe him/her?
3. Imagine that you are the chosen RPG character. Tell something about yourself. What is your story? Where do you come from? How to you feel in the surrounding reality?
4. Imagine that you are the chosen RPG character and that you know person that created you. What is your attitude towards your creator (although the character doesn't have to know that we was created just for gaming purpose)? What can you say about him/her or to him/her? What do you you think about him/her?

I would like to thank everyone in advance for participating in this poll.

And of course I hope this thread doesn't break any forum rules and such... ^^

The Lounge / 100 000 members, whoa!
« on: May 12, 2013, 06:54:16 am »

If I understand it correctly number of forum users is equivalent to number of players. So now there are 100 000 people who bought the game :D.

Sounds like an occasion to party for me xD.

Continuing my list of suggestions for the game I started in this topic I present you another portion of things that IMHO need to be changed or could make the game better. Say what you think of it and then maybe it could send it to Muse.

5. Camera shake or blur when hit
(I'm running on medium graphic setting so if something like this already exists but requires higher setting then sorry ^^')
I think it would add more tense to the battle if every time you get hit (especially by a powerful gun) the whole ship (or just the camera) shakes a bit or camera gets blurred for a second when the explosion is near the player. How much it shakes can depend on the amount of damage you get like each Whirling gun bullet won't shake your camera but a Typhon Cannon would definitely make it shake.

6. Bullet whiz when they dart near you
I remember this from one of the old trailers and I think it was quite cool. Why was it removed? It could be implemented at least for guns with high muzzle speed.

7. Being able to disable the "old movie" post processing effect
Am I the only one who doesn't like the new old movie filter? I liked the old post processing effect (even thought recently I had to turn it off due to low FPS) but IMHO this is to much. I don't know why it should resemble an old movie since this isn't even our world, we are not watching a camera recording and my character doesn't have a camera in his googles xD.

8. Destroyed ship parts that don't spin like mad
Whenever a ship is destroyed all the parts start to spin like they get their own torque. But sometimes it look ridiculous. IMHO it would look better if the parts didn't spin so fast like they do now.

9. Destroyed ship parts that fall to the ground
I noticed that the parts of destroyed ship disappear 3 seconds after the ship explodes. Why won't they fall to the ground? I hope it's not a problem.

10. Player holds the item in hand after the match ends
When the score table is displayed we can still see the item the character was currently holding.

11. After ship respawns the pilot's active skill is the same as when he died
It's irritating because the skill should be set to default after you spawn. Usually you notice that when your old skill is still on after something on your ship gets suddenly destroyed after the respawn. Like when dying while having hydrogen activated makes it also active after respawn and destroys the balloon.

12. Separate the title from the nickname in the score board
Why the title is the same size and font as the nickname? Usually it's hard to fast distinguish when does the title ends and the nickname starts. Some short of difference between them would be useful.

13. Alternative fire in key bindings?
Why Mouse1 is called Alternative fire when none of the guns have alternative fire modes? Some have only zoom. Maybe it should be called "Zoom" instead.

14. Unable to go to options from lobby
I know it has been mentioned a lot of times but come on. This is bloody needed.

15. Decreasing points in Capture Points mode.
Currently in CP mode both teams start with 0 points and have to gain them by taking points. The problem is that during the game I haven't found a way to see what's the required number of points to win? If it was the other way round and started from the limit and decreased then everyone would know that the game would end when the first team reached zero.

16. Bookmarks for chat window
Why not add bookmarks for chat windows to separate Regional from Team and Crew? Currently it's a global mess and it will be even worse when more players will start playing it. Maybe something like this:

17. Same hats for ladies and gentlemen
I think both genders would look good in all hats. And the ladies tricorn is just the best D:.

General Discussion / Angry Joe advertises Guns of Icarus Online
« on: May 09, 2013, 04:58:29 pm »
Nobody noticed that?
I think that explains the sudden influx of new players :D. Who would expect. It's cool that Joe supports the game and encourages people to support the kickstarter :D.

Hello.
GoI is a marvelous game and it's great that players can so easily provide feedback. So will I :). This is my list of things that (after those several hours of playing) bug me or I would like to see improved in the future. Some of them may be already noticed by other users but it only means that it's something most people would like to change :).

1. Message about enemy's ship parts that I destroyed
In most shooters whenever you kill somebody or do something important there is an information about it just under the crosshair (like in BF3). I must say I find it quite irritating that whenever I want to know if I destroyed something on enemy's ship I have to search it in the top left corner of the screen in the tiny message log which often gets flooded with informations especially during the 3 vs 3 matches. Sometimes when I'm a gunner my captain asks me to to destroy a gun on enemy ship and after shooting all I can say is "I hope it is destroyed" because I missed the info about it. I would like to have the information about what I have destroyed just under the crosshair like in any other shooter. Something like this:

2. More visible map markers
Markers indicating blue and red ships on the map often merge with the background making them hard to find. Usually it takes me about 5 seconds to find where are the ships especially on the Duel at Dawn level where the map is filled with junk making the ships hard to find. Maybe making those markers brighter or giving them a glowing edge could make them more visible.

3. Better level borders
Currently the only way to notice you reached the end of a map (of course in a map without solid borders like mountains) is to bounce from the invisible wall or (if you are going slowly) irritate yourself that somehow you can't go any further just to finally check the map and find that it's the end of a map. I know that pro gamers probably know where the invisible walls are but it's something that can annoy many new pilots (like me xD). I think there should be some way of showing that you are reaching the end of a map.
Like when you are near the invisible wall the part of the wall you all closest to could become slightly visible like red stripes could appear on it showing you that you can't go any further before you collide with it.
Or maybe make the Battlefield approach where are no invisible walls just whenever you pass the end of the map the screen goes darker and a timer is set giving you time to "get back in the fight" or else you will die. I think 30 seconds would be enough for any ship to reverse and get back to the map.

4. The "you are to close to repair this part" bug
When I'm playing engineer I often get a bug that I'm to close to (for example) an engine to repair and I have to make 2 steps backward. Just like any collision hasn't been detected and I can move through the part I want to repair. It's strange because it seems to happen randomly. This is what I'm talking about:
I'm inside the engine
Now it's better

5. Isn't the steering reversed then flying backwards?
I'm not sure whether it's a bug or a feature. I know the game is all about physics but isn't the steering reversed then the throttle is down? I'm used that in most games (or maybe rather every game) where you can steer a machine when you are going forward then "A" key makes you turn left and "D" right and the same when you go backwards. But in GoI going backwards means that "A" is right and "D" is left. Is that's really how it should be?

That's all for now :). I hope you like the changes I mentioned and maybe we could find some of them in the game soon ^^.
