Community Events / Tipping Champ Bracket Sky Tourney
« on: June 06, 2013, 10:43:50 am »
Everyone's probably already noticed the tipping thread hasn't come out. Sorry bout that. I've been trying to contact Urz so we knew the format and how to tip but he is being illusive.

The final week is better informed. We will be tipping all 5 matches between the 2 final teams with plenty of bonus points up for grabs.

Although there will be no points this week feel free to tip away below. We know at least 2 teams are coming out of this rumble. Who do you think they'll be?

Community Events / Tipping Group C: Icarus Sky Tourney
« on: May 29, 2013, 10:10:38 am »
Welcome to Week 2 and Group C of the Icarus Sky Tournament tipping competition. This week is going to be a little different to the last two. You will need to tip the teams that you think will make it through and get knocked out in order. For example, if you tip the Gents as 1st Qualifier and Polaris as 2nd Qualifier but on the day Polaris qualifies first, that's 0 points.

You get 1 point for each tip you get right. The points are tallied after each week. Whoever has the most points at the end of the season wins!

Tipping posts MUST be set out as follows:

1st Qualifier: [Team]
1st KO: [Team]
2nd Qualifier: [Team]
2nd KO: [Team]

[Any and all comments should be here.]

Feel free to add any information you want after the tip. If you feel like adding the score for every game, go for it!

So the teams this round are:
A: The Gentlemen
B: Polaris Company
C: The Falconeers
D: The Valiant

Tipping closes 24 hours before event starts at 4pm EST Friday.

Welcome to Hell Group. Previously we've had 2 vets and 2 unknowns kickin' it off. This week we have the Gentlemen, arguably the most experienced team in the competition and definitely within the top 3 competitive teams in GoIO. We also have Polaris Company: a lot of people have learnt the hard way not to underestimate these Russian-speaking mavericks no matter what they are flying. The rookie teams have a serious challenge this week as well as a serious barrier to overcome as not one new team have made it out of the Qualifiers yet. Although new to the competitive side of GoIO, these 2 rookie teams are definitely not green. With The Valiant headed up by Captain Magellan and The Falconeers run by Ofiach, will they be the ones to break the onslaught of the former Cogs teams?

Saturday tipping: https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php/topic,1200.new.html#new

This thread is for the Sunday games or Group B in the Icarus Sky Tournament. The rules are simple. Choose the two teams you tip to make it out of the Group. You get 1 point for each tip you get right. The points are tallied after each week. Whoever has the most points at the end of the season wins! The first three weeks are going to be the preliminaries. This is where we get to find out what all of these new teams can do. For these three rounds we will be tipping the overall winners. Choose the two teams you think will make it out of the round.

Tipping posts MUST be set out as follows:

Team 1: [Team]
Team 2: [Team]

[Any and all comments should be here.]

Feel free to add any information you want after the tip. If you feel like adding the score for every game, go for it!

So the teams this round are:
A: Zac's Flying Ghuuu
B: Black Flight Squadron
C: The Pastafarians
D: Attention//Infinity

Tipping closes when the event starts at 4pm EST Sunday.

Like Saturday, we have 2 more completely new teams coming up against 2 tested. Pasta have proven themselves formidable and Black Flight Squadron have started making a name for themselves in previous comps. Will Ghuu or the split team Att//Inf be the first to knock out a Cogs team?

Ok it's that time again. In fact it's a little late, but you'll forgive me right? RIGHT? Time to tip the brand new Icarus Sky Tournament. If your new to this then awesome, the rules are simple.

The reason we are not tipping every game is that each round has too many variables around who plays who. Later in the season we will revert to this format.

Tipping posts MUST be set out as follows:

Team 1: [Team]
Team 2: [Team]

[Any and all comments should be here.]

Feel free to add any information you want after the tip. If you feel like adding the score for every game, go for it!

So the teams this week are:
A: Corvus Marauders
B: SA Dragoons
C: Museosaurs
D: Insert Team Name//Callos

Tipping closes when the event starts at 4pm EST Saturday.

Can the new teams, ITN/C and Dragoons stand up to the might of the Corvus comeback tour after their dramatic exit from The Cogs? Will Museosaurs be able to redeem themselves, or will they fall again, this time to newcomers? Find out in less than 24 hours!

Community Events / Cogs Tipping Comp FINALE
« on: May 14, 2013, 06:48:13 am »
Ok peeps. It's the final week. Hold onto your butts. The nature of this week could make or break your score as there is a total of 7 points up for grabs. Now, make sure you read the tipping guidelines CAREFULLY. Also, the ladder has so far changed almost every day since it's beginning so be ready to repost your votes if it happens again.

Aside from that is should be a fun week.

Tipping posts MUST be set out as follows (I took the liberty of putting in teams this weeks example for clarity. I flipped a coin for the winner.):

Quarter Finals

Match A: Pastafarians over Merry Northern Storm
Match B: Black Flight Squadron over Polaris Company
Match C: The Gentlemen over The Brood

Semi Finals

Match A: The Paddling over The Pastafarians
Match B: Black Flight Squadron over The Gentlemen

Finals

Final: The Paddling over Black Flight Squadron
3th: The Gentlemen over The Pastafarians

[Any and all comments should be here.]

IMPORTANT: No hedging your bets. You're predicting the tourney as a WHOLE. If you tipped Pasta over MNS then you must tip a Paddling vs Pasta match NOT a Paddling vs MNS. If you don't understand or have any questions feel free to post them below.

Get tipping! Hand have a happy Final.

Community Events / Cogs Tipping Competition Week 8
« on: May 10, 2013, 08:11:49 pm »
Ok. Week 8 peoples. Format's a bit different but lets run with it. There may be 1 extra match in the event of a tie but we won't be tipping that due to logistical nightmares.

Match 1: [Team]
Match 2: [Team]
Match 3: [Team]
Match 4: [Team] [Score]

[Any and all comments should be here.]

Tipping closes at start of Cogs this week. To make up for the late announcements obviously.

TIEBREAKER this week is the Destructiod vs Brood match. So make sure you get the scores in for that.

Match ups:

Game 1: The Pastafarians vs The Raft
Map: The Labyrinth
Game 2: The Brood vs Black Flight Squadron
Map: Duel at Dawn
Game 3: Black Flight Squadron vs Destructoid

Game 4: Destructoid vs The Brood
Map: Canyon Ambush

Get em in doods.

Community Events / Cogs Tipping Competition Week 7
« on: May 01, 2013, 10:03:00 pm »
Welcome to week Seven punters. We're drawing close to the end. We finally get to see what the Dutchman's team can do, and we know Pasta won't make it easy for them. Polaris gets a chance to redeem themselves on Duel at Dawn but Black Flight Squadron stand in their way. And Merry Northern Storm get the final chance to dethrone the Ducks. Gonna be a good week.

Post your tips in the thread. You gain 1 point for each correct tip. You gain .1 every time you correctly tip Match 3's score. At the end of the season the person with the most points wins! Also keep an eye out on the Cogs live stream where you'll see all the statistics drawn from you! If this is your first time, there'll be plenty of chance to catch up with the Cogs Tourney being added to the spread. More to come on that soon...

Tipping posts MUST be set out as follows:

Match 1: [Team]
Match 2: [Team]
Match 3: [Team] [Score]

[Any and all comments should be here.]

The score for match 3 is mandatory as a tiebreaker. Scores for match 1 and 2 are optional. You may opt out of tipping any matches for any reason. I will not edit your picks so think before you press that Post button.

Submissions close Friday 4pm EST. That's 24 hours before Cogs begins.

Time to get tipping! Who will your pick be?

The Pastafarians vs The Whalers
Battle on the Dunes
Polaris Company vs Black Flight Squadron
Duel at Dawn
The Paddling vs Merry Northern Storm
Canyon Ambush

Welcome to our second week of tipping! Where we and find out who's the best tipper in all of GoIO. You'll notice we're a little less punny and we've had a change of name and enforced some stricter posting requirements but other than that the story is the same. Post your tips in the thread. You gain 1 point for each correct tip. You gain .1 every time you correctly tip Match 3's score. At the end of the season the person with the most points wins! Also keep an eye out on the Cogs live stream where you'll see all the statistics drawn from you! If this is your first time, there's plenty of matches for you to catch up (and for the leaders to screw up ;D) so join in the fun!

Community Events / Cogs Pick & Pun
« on: April 17, 2013, 10:35:35 pm »
Now that the Cogs are full and the maps a chosen I figured it was high time for a place to share our predictions for matches semi competitively.

This is entirely for fun. THERE IS NO BETTING INVOLVED.

Pick & Pun costs nothing to enter (although do feel free to leave an optional pun). The winner receives bragging rights and a terrible title forced upon him or her like an unfortunate rash.

A bonus to this is we'll be able to see crowd favourites going into a match. I'll work up a percentage for each matchup before Cogs begins.

Here's how it works.

Each week you pick your choice of winners from each match.
You get 1 point for a correct pick.
You must put in a predicted score for the Champion vs Challenger match and this will serve as a tiebreaker if it comes to that.
At the end of the season the scores are tallied and the person with the highest receives the semi-illustrious title of Punner of Pickarus! (Told you it was terrible.)

Set your submission out like this:

Week 5

(optional Puns of Icarus here)

Match 1: Corvus Marauders
Match 2: Gentlemen
Match 3: Polaris Company: 5-4

(Then any comments like:)
Yes I know, no Ducks. But the Dover are new, the Gentlemen are Jugglenauts and Polaris are obviously insane magical sky ponies leaving a vapour trail of confused sky-corpses wherever they fly.

I'll put up a working spreadsheet once week 5 is over so you can keep track of your scores.

Picks will be open as soon as the week's preview is out.

PICKS MUST BE IN BY FRIDAY 4PM EST.
This is to give me time to enter the submissions and work out crowd favourite percentages.

I will not accept submissions after that time.

I will not accept edits or changes. Please, think before you hit that submit button.

Ok, we have 4 weeks left! That's 12 potential points.

Corvus Marauders vs The Dover
The Gentlemen vs The Brood
The Paddling vs Polaris Company

Get picking and punning!

General Discussion / Just Awesome
« on: March 28, 2013, 08:54:19 pm »
Hey all,

I've been playing for about four (holy carp has it only been four days) now and I just wanted to say this game is awesome.

Thanks to the more experienced players who've been teaching me butt loads with their input and merciless competition. And patience when I do something like run into the same damn rock twice O_O. I'm going to try and become a competitive enough pilot for The Cogs so I'm into all the info and experience I can get.

I've been torn away from my computer for a weekend of family easter time in the middle of nowhere so I'll see you all again when I get back.

Fly safe
