The Lounge / Conrad the Rad Post-hurricane

Polygon has a feature up about what Conrad has been up to post-saving the Muse build server from Hurricanes on launch day:

Visual novels aren't exactly my cup of tea, but it's always great reading about someone enjoying what they're doing.

The Lounge / PAX East 2014

Anyone else pick up tickets for PAX East? They went on sale today at noon. Plasma, Surette and I are Bostonians, so we picked up 3-days as soon as they went up. We've also managed to peer pressure a decent amount of Merry Men to make the trek to Boston. Hopefully Muse will put in another appearance so we can all bother Bubbles and co. about the minutia of whatever the latest hot topic of discussion in the Guns community is.

The Pit / Guns World Problems

I want to be on skype so I can provide my clan a blow by blow of my drinking (Harpoon Octoberfest!), but it kills my phone battery. #GunsWorldProblems

What have I become?

Community Events / Thanks for the Memories! (And the Tournament)
« on: August 24, 2013, 08:11:16 pm »
I decided that this deserved an entire thread. While participating in all but one day of the tournament was incredibly grueling (I don't know how OVW managed all six), it was an awesome time. The entire thing was incredibly well run. The Ducks put their massive manpower to great use and the outcome was a very slick and well run tournament. With the influx of new players we've recently had, I think the Flotsam was us putting a good foot forward to show them the potential and the appeal the competitive GoIO community has.

So, thank you Ducks. Squash, Sammy, and everyone else here:

I had a great time, and everyone else I know who participated did too. Don't get too big of a head though, Ducks. I imagine the Merry Men will be seeing some of you sometime soon (maybe on Labyrinth or Canyons?), and you'll get no special treatment from us for hosting this tournament.

The Lounge / What are you Reading?

I'm re-reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig. It's a study of values and the differences between the classical, rational view and the romantic viewpoint. Illustrated early on mainly through the analogy of maintaining a motorcycle, the author blends travel novel, his erased past, and philosophy dissertation together to explain his philosophy of quality. Just previous to this I read Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs, and it's very interesting to see the influence the Beat Generation had on Pirsig's writing. I highly recommend ZAMM, but I'm much more reserved on Naked Lunch. It's... interesting, but incredibly disjointed and makes little sense as a story. You need to just enjoy the prose, I guess.

My favorite quote so far is:
"Each machine has its own, unique personality which probably could be defined as the intuitive sum total of everything you know and feel about it." (Pirsig 44)

I'm not really much for vehicle maintenance, but as a Computer Engineer, I see this all the time with the hardware and computers I work with.

We have to have some other readers in the GoIO community. What are you currently reading?
