Community Events / Season 1 Invitation Tournament
« on: November 06, 2013, 02:06:05 pm »
Hello everybody and welcome to the Season 1 invitational tournament. You've all been fighting it out in the skies over the past few months to get here, and now it's time to but everything to the test and win some sweet sweet prizes.
Everybody that participates will get a badge, and the better that you score, the shinier the badge will be. On top of that we have some truly awesome things lined up for you, like naming npc's.
So when is this tournament? The tournament is held on the weekend of November 23rd and 24th.
What time is it? The events will start at 1pmEST each day, so make sure to have your team ready for that.
So it's two days? Yes. Day one is an eliminator round robin event, followed by a bracket stage on day two, where the teams that made it out of day one still flying will fight for the top spot.
How do I know if my team is in it? Team captains will be emailed over the coming days with an invitation to the tournament.

Teams in so far:
Ducks
Zill’s Merry Men
CakeWatch
The Bully Boys
The Celestial Dragons
Museosaurus
Aeronautical Knights
Glowwater Thralls

Community Events / Titles, who has them, and what they do.
« on: August 29, 2013, 08:13:49 pm »
As per the wishes of Squash and the ducks, we're bringing the titles into the full ruleset for competitive, and making a new thread so that all questions about them will go here, and he won't have to deal with them. Down to business!
At this very moment, the titles stand as follows. This is going to be constantly updated to have the most recent in place, so you know exactly who to hunt down an claim a title from. But how, and why, would you claim a title though? To claim another title from a team, simply beat them on a map they hold the title for! Other then proving that you are even better at that map then the team you wrestle it from, it will get you and your team one extra point towards the end of season tournament

Bringers of Dawn: Ducks

Timekeepers of Paritan: Ducks

Lords of the Labyrinth: Merry Men

Masters of Ambush: Merry Men

Sultans of the Dunes: Overwatch

Barons of Fjords: Ducks

But once you have your title, others will come for it, so be prepared to hold it, and even more prepared for an ambush.

Protecting:
The title can be taken from you, and you have to protect it. Any time your team competes in a competitive scrimmage, Cogs, or participating tournaments, on the map you hold your title to, your title is in jeopardy. Should your team lose, the team that beat you will take your title, and you will no longer be the champions of that map, or holders of the territory.

Ambush:
To take a title from another team, you just have to beat them on the map they hold the title to. If you are scheduled to fight them (either by official scrimmage, Cogs, or participating tournament), but the map you are scheduled to fight them on is not the map they hold the title for, you can force them to play on the title map instead. The decision to do this can be done at any point before the match starts, even in the lobby.

Let’s use an example. The Lizard People have claimed the title to Duel at Dawn in The Flotsam Dynasty Tournament. They are now the undisputed champions on that map. You’re in Eagle Squad, and are unhappy with this turn of events. In two weeks, you’re scheduled to fight The Lizard People in Cogs. Unfortunately, you learn the map your teams will fight on is Northern Fjords. You can only steal the Duel at Dawn title by beating The Lizard People on Duel at Dawn. However, you can Ambush The Lizard People, forcing them to defend their title, and changing the map minutes before the Cogs round starts.

While this may seem unfair to the poor Lizard People, having a title makes the clear assertion that they are in fact the best, most fearsome team when fighting on that map, of course they have to always be ready to defend themselves on that map! It also means that the more titles a team collects, the harder it will be to defend each of them, as the number of maps they could potentially play on in every competitive event grows!

Community Events / The Captain's Tourney Results
« on: June 30, 2013, 03:21:01 am »
Hey guys,

What a day. Around 4 hours of streaming in the wee hours of the morning does take it out of you. Big thanks to Qwerty for getting up even earlier then I did and managing not to fall asleep. I don't know how he did it. Another Huge thanks to Papa Paradox and HoneyBadger for taking on the second stream and going through the other half of the games.
Quite a few no-shows managed to actually cut down the time dramatically, which turned out to be a good thing. If this ever happens again (which I doubt) let's make it a "First kill takes it".

On to who actually won then!
Due to time constraints.. third place was never actually found out, so it is a tie between RomanKar and Captain Roy
Second place went to Brick Hardcastle, who played some incredible games throughout.
And the winner of The Captain's Tourney is...! (dun dun) (dun dun) (tension build).... Squash! Well done, buddy!
Congratulations to all the pilots who flew today, there were some absolutely brilliant moves seen today, and a special shoutout goes to Gilder, who was ballsy enough to bring a squid into the mix, and nearly pulled it off, too. Tickle me impressed.

Morbie out.

To sign up, what I need from you is your in game name, and if you are flying under a clan's banner, what clan that is.
Remember that each clan may only enter two players, so you'll need to discuss this.

Welcome to another tourney!
With the past success of the Fjords tournament, followed by the ever-growing success of the cogs, and now the Sky Tournament, I feel it is time for me to venture back into organising and running a torunament. However this time, the tournament will be a one day deal, 2-3 hours of play, and only targeted towards a portion of the player base. This is to help me in organising a smaller 'cool down' after the mass run of highly competitive play.

Tournament Date: 29/6/2013
Tournament Time: 3pm EST

About The Captain’s Tourney:
The captain’s tourney is a tournament based around finding who could be the top captain in the game, balancing their ship loadouts, equipped items, and an Ai crew. The tournament involves 16 captains going head to head in 1v1 situations, vying to be the number one captain of GoI.

Format:
The tournament is a standard bracket system, with each pairing being best out of one. Prior to the tournament’s start, all captains will be randomised into brackets and paired together. from this stage, the winners of each pairing will progress into the bracket until defeated.
The matches will be hard capped at 30 minutes length, with any match reaching this going to the player with the most kills. In the event of a tie at the 30 minute mark, the game will play to the next kill.

Nitty gritty do’s and don’ts.
The amount of players is capped at 16.
Due to the hard cap of players, a clan may only field a maximum of two players in the tournament. This is to make sure the larger clans do not flood the tournament with 10 players and by doing so, stop newer players from trying their luck.

Signups are open! https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php/topic,1332.0.html

A bit more stuff in a less professional format, also known as ‘Morbie’s ramble’:
Alright, so yes there are only a small number of spots open for this game, but I’m sure you can all understand why. For those who can’t, here’s the reason; It’ll still probably be many many hours long with just 16 players, and generally speaking, we want to stream a lot of this and the streamers can’t keep it up for another 5 hour chunk. If there is mass interest, then this could turn into a recurring event. If not, I have another few things planned. And I suppose we should discuss prizes while we're at it. At this stage, nothing other then winning! This is a small thing, organised only by your dear Morbie, so currently there will be no prizes. <-- subject to change over the coming weeks.

Morbie's respone to questions section: (To be filled out as players ask questions in this thread)
