Feedback and Suggestions / Fireworks after birthday week
« on: November 03, 2013, 08:20:42 pm »
I was thinking, the fireworks are such a cool effect, wouldn't it be desirable to leave them in the game, but make it an option when hosting a game whether there would be fireworks or not, in the same way you choose whether to play a beginner lobby or not. Additionally, having the option to host a fireworks enabled game could be a level reward.

Just my $0.02

Community Events / Saturday streaming!
« on: August 24, 2013, 02:53:08 pm »
Guess what? Because so many teams are playing in today's Northern Fjords games, we're going to be dual casting to keep the game moving at a speedy pace, so nobody has to wait for any of that delicious carnage.

Here's the twitch channel for the secondary stream:
http://www.twitch.tv/fightboyvash

And here's the brackets:
http://challonge.com/SaturdayNorthernFjords

Our tentative plan is for the secondary stream to cover D, E and G in the brackets, though this could change to facilitate speedy gameplay.

Good luck to all the teams, and don't forget to tune in to our primary channel as well:

Per request, this thread will be a WANTED, or CREW NEEDED board. If you've got a team you want to enter into The Flotsam Dynasty Campaign, but you don't have enough people, this is a good place to inquire. If you want to participate but don't have a crew, this is a good place to list your skills.

A quick summary for those who want to know what it is, without delving into large, TL;DR threads:

This is also an excellent thread to discuss thematic issues related to this event.

Community Events / the Flotsam Dynasty Campaign Registration
« on: August 09, 2013, 04:15:32 pm »
Registration

Team Registration:
Each team needs a team name, a 512x512 logo, and a Point of Contact. A point of contact is a person on the team who will communicate with event coordinators on, and before the day of their match. A team must be registered to play in this event. A team does not need to list all of its members. It would be too hard for the same 8 people to participate in so many events, a team can be as large as you want it to be.

Team Registrations are made in this thread, nothing fancy. Registering as a team is not enough to play, your team also needs to enlist in matches. Team Registrations end Saturday the 17th at 11:59PM EDT.

Match Enlistment:
When your team is registered, you can enlist in matches. This event takes place over six days, with six different brackets (one for each day). Your team chooses which day(s) it participates in, as many or as few as your team wants.

To enlist in a match, your Point of Contact simply has to post in this thread that their Team will be enlisting to play on X day(s). When you enlist in a match it cannot be reversed, and will be expected to play, or else the commentators will make fun of you to the whole world. Once you enlist to play once, it does not mean you cannot do it again.

This means that if your team decides they can only play on Saturday, and your Point of Contact enlists you to play on Saturday, you are committed to playing on Saturday. But you can still return to the thread at a later time, and enlist to play on Monday and Tuesday if you want. A schedule of when teams are playing will be provided on the following webpage, and will be updated as much as possible while teams enlist: https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1eKXmZFqgvjkpiukxbboex6SZx_R1mhPKiUPdTfzLQDk/edit?usp=sharing

The Flotsam Dynasty Campaign

Theme:
Definition of FLOTSAM
1
: floating wreckage of a ship or its cargo; broadly : floating debris
2
a : a floating population (as of emigrants or castaways)<human flotsam>

The world of Icarus is punctuated by unending conflict. aboard airborne warships, battles are waged in the sky by the last of humanity, to prosecute wars for the ground. ‘Take and hold’ strategy still exists, and the ground is as valuable as airspace.
When Adventure Mode hits we’ll have epic conflicts between the world’s true factions, but until then, the ceaseless battles of clan warfare are more than enough to wet our appetites for destruction. Forget the Arashia, forget the Yeshans, this conflict is all about the Gentlemen, the Crows, the Zills, and even the Cakes.

Structure:
Definition of CAMPAIGN
1
: a connected series of military operations forming a distinct phase of a war

This event will take place over a six day period, starting on Monday, August 19th, and ending Saturday August 24th. There will be games every single day. Each day is assigned to a map, which represents a territory in the World of Icarus.Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are played at 9pm EDT, Tuesday and Thursdays are played at 6pm, and Saturday the match will begin at 4pm EDT. The weekday times were chosen to give the best access for the most players possible, while the Saturday time was picked because that’s the competitive standard used for Cogs. The order of matches is as follows:

Duel at Dawn – Monday 9PM
Paritan Rumble – Tuesday 6PM
The Labyrinth – Wednesday 9PM
Canyon Ambush – Thursday 6PM
Battle on the Dunes – Friday 9PM
Northern Fjords – Saturday 4PM

Teams are not required, or even expected to participate every day. Teams will sign up in the Registration thread, no later than Saturday the 17th 11:59PM EDT. When signing up, teams will list which days they want to participate in. Brackets will be made of appropriate size depending on how many teams sign up for each day. If only two teams sign up, it will be resolved as a best 2 out of 3 match. If three teams sign up, it will be a single elimination round-robin. If four or more teams sign up it will be a single elimination bracket.

There are no weapon restrictions. Each player can only play for one team each day. As long as this rule is not broken there are no substitution restrictions. The maps do not have a time limit, but if a match gets bogged down in a protracted battle, casters will move on to the next match. You do not need to pre-register ship builds. Color preferences disputes will be resolved by rock paper scissor via PM with the ref. 8 players are required for a team to play a match. Going idle so the AI will take over is not allowed and will result is disqualification.

Please bare in mind, that while the crew composition rules (as it relates to substitutes) in this tournament are very relaxed, if you want the tournament’s matches to count towards your New Competitive Scene points, your team composition will have to be up to their rules standards.

Reward:
Definition of DYNASTY
1
: a succession of rulers of the same line of descent
2
: a powerful group or family that maintains its position for a considerable time

At the completion of each day’s bracket, the winner will receive a title for the map they have claimed. That title identifies the team as the absolute champions of that map, the clear and undisputed rulers of that territory. They will also be given a graphic which they can post on their clan’s thread. There will be an additional thread which exists only to track which team has what titles. There are six titles, one for each 2v2 map.

Titles don’t end here. These titles are kept after this event ends. Teams will hold their title until it is taken from them. That’s right, it’s not enough to take a title, and you also have to defend it! A title is taken when the title holder loses an official scrimmage, Cogs or (participating) tournament match on the map they hold the title for. This is a long term competitive game system with implications for how clans compete, and the details of which are better covered in its accompanying thread.

In addition to the titles themselves, the team that wins the most titles during this special event will win 8 rare Guns of Icarus Online Steam backgrounds, and an in-game badge Muse is making just for this event. The only way to get this badge is by being The Campaign Champions.

While not a reward, it’s also worth saying, at the end of the Campaign, a short story recapping the highs and lows of the event will be written and illustrated in the style of a children’s novel. In this case, history is written for the victors.

Some people were talking about how cool an Icarus Pen and Paper RPG would be for this game, in this thread: https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php/topic,1061.0.html

so I thought, "what the hell".

Feedback and Suggestions / Piloting tools remaining on after death?
« on: April 01, 2013, 04:18:52 pm »
So, you're battling for your life, the enemy gets the upper hand and goes in for the ram, you know your only hope is to hydrogen up and out, but alas, you're too late, you die anyway. Oh well, you respawn, let's get back into the fight. You get to the helm, press E, WHOOSH your balloon inflates.

Godamnit.

Is there any way the tools could not stay on after death, just lurking, waiting for you to get back on the helm before they pounce?

Yeah, like how they reschedule football games so they don't conflict with Thanksgiving.

This post was spliced from another topic. It was about an issue of cogs games on Easter weekend would effect attendance. Just some context since I can't splice first posts.

...up the ship to deal with sandstorms. You know, like a piloting tool that prevents dust storm damage, or maybe a repair tool like a chem spray that dirt proofs a gun.

Why, what did you think I was talking about?
