Steam Workshop / Mask (WIP)
« on: March 07, 2015, 11:52:23 am »
I'm in the process of making a mask, it's my first attempt at baking and texturing, which will be a challenge.
The base mesh is pretty much done, now I just have to figure out how to engrave it and color it. I'll probably try some sculpting.

It's very plain looking at the moment, most of the detail will come from the normal and diffuse..

Any tips and critique is welcome :)

General Discussion / No love from MUSE on these Boards?
« on: October 24, 2013, 10:24:46 am »
It seems to be all about facebook.
I've been reading these boards for a few weeks and I've never seen any WIP or upcoming feature posts from MUSE.
Yet on facebook there's been concept art, talk about voice overs, etc.

Of course MUSE are free to direct their marketing where they see fit, but it would be nice if we could at least have a small thread in a corner somewhere, were this stuff also ends up.   ::)

Feedback and Suggestions / Item selection UI presentation
« on: October 11, 2013, 04:36:03 am »
The formating of the text is a mess, which results in stats which are harder to read than they should be.
All tools could do with some better formating, but I'm going to take gunnery items as an example.

I think this gif image speaks for itself.

Feedback and Suggestions / Store: Clothing and Accessory Wishlist!
« on: October 08, 2013, 10:48:36 am »
The Unofficial Store Clothing and Accessory Wishlist!

Because I couldn't find a thread like this anywhere and it seemed like a good idea.

Basically post the things you want to see in the store, like staches, types of hats, outfits, more hats, goggles, glasses, monocles, hairstyles, you name it.

(Would be awesome if this could be a sticky)

--------------------

I've found the lack of staches a bit disappointing really, especially since the ones that exist look oversized and quite ridiculous.
Would also be nice if there were real beards, because how are you supposed to play a steampunk pirate captain if you can't have a large and menacing beard.

And I can't seem to find just a regular eyepatch.

Feedback and Suggestions / Lobby Feature for Team Balance
« on: October 07, 2013, 03:11:50 am »
We badly need a feature for switching sides with an entire ship.
Most games just go on with one side dominating and no one wants to mix up the teams for a more even game..
Which also means that most people just leave and then we have a completely empty team and a full team of people who do not want to leave the winning side..

Feedback and Suggestions / Interface additions for Pilot/Gunner
« on: October 06, 2013, 11:54:00 am »
There are two things that aren't very clear regarding the interface.

1. When you're using pilot items.
Pilot items are activated the instant you switch to them, this stands in contrast to all other form of tools a player can have. There should be at least some kind of blinking or pulsing of the icon to indicate that it's being used. There have been too many times when I've forgotten that I'm using kerosene or when I've accidentally scrolled my mouse and selected something other than the wheel.

2. Ammo type currently loaded in a gun.
There should be a clear gui displaying what ammo is currently loaded or being loaded into a gun.

Ultimately for the gunner, it would be much clearer if each ammo had a physical representation, so you have an 3D ammo box for each type, that you hold in your hand just like any tool.
When it's loaded the box next to the gun switches to the type loaded. Now it's easy to see what ammunition a gunner is using and which guns are using what.

Something similar could be done for the pilot, but it would be much harder to pull off in a believeable fashion..

As a pilot, it would be really helpful to know what altitude you're at and what speed you're going.
Those are pretty basic instruments for any vehicle that flies. But they would increase the immersion of the game and keep the pilot informed.
Right now you're pretty much only relying on visuals, which works, but you can't compare speeds between ships or see just how much speed you get from kerosene.

An altimeter would not help you from crashing into mountains or buildings, since it would be based on sea level.
But it would help you get a sense of where the ceiling is at and what rate you are descending/ascending at.

I'd also love to see an actual magnetic compass, in addition to the hud one. Because brass gauges and such really brings out the steampunk feel.

Note: The images are from Rise of Flight, depicting real WW1 instruments. Thus they are not that easy to read..
Here is something more easy on the eye.
