General Discussion / Music in Lobby
« on: July 15, 2014, 07:41:32 pm »
I believe it is against terms of use of this game to "spam" music through your mic.  Now, I know it seems a bit hypocritical for me, renown player of Jazz would bring this up, but deal with it.  I don't believe I spam, and if I do, I will alter what I do, I do not think I spam.

Anyway.  There is a certain clan whose stated purpose is to spread music throughout Guns of Icarus.  I have almost all of them blocked.  Does anyone else find it weird that a clan has a stated goal that is in contradiction to the terms of use agreement?

I have taken on the job of running the Crazy Kingdom Showdown.  And I really don't know what I'm doing.  Anyone wishing to help, please pm me here or on Steam, RomanKar.  I would be forever in your debt.

CRAZY KINGDOM SHOWDOWN

Short weekly tournament between 5 teams.  I don't think it would take more than 2 and a half hours.  And I think it will be action packed.  I also believe new strategies will develop since there is no Deathmatch, which has, by strictest definition, no strategy, only tactics.

Initial Framework: 5 Teams: A, B, C, D, K

K is the returning champions, Reigning Rulers of the Crazy Kingdom

A, B, C, D are Challengers to the Throne of Lunacy.

Challenger Teams are randomly paired up:  Team AB and Team CD

Round #1 -- the now 2 teams face off in a 4v4 Crazy King.  Winning team moves on. Say Team CD

Round #2 -- The teammates now turn against each other in a showdown for the chance to take on the reigning Monarchs of Madness in a best of one King of the Hill.  So C and D duke it out to see who gets the chance at the Throne of Delirium.

Round #3 -- The Reigning Monarchs of Madness take on the up and comers in a best of 3 on King of the Hill.

The winners are anointed the Sovereigns of Insanity for the week and awarded all the rights and privileges therein.

They return the next week to defend their Diadem of Debauchery in the final Best of 3.

I want to start small.  I figure Round One could last a while, but I think it will be constant action and appealing to play and watch.  Maybe 30 to 45 Mins at most.  The King of the Hill would be about 15 mins per match, at most 4, so I'm guessing , 90 mins at least, two and a half hours at the most.

I'd like to know who would be interested in helping me with this project in any way.

If you're not interested, I'd ask that you not post any negative comments about how this sucks or this won't work, etc.

Also like to hear some feedback.  Any clans think they'd be interested in participating? Casters? Officials?  I'm looking at getting into some casting myself, and may use this to spur that onward.

Thoughts?

General Discussion / Ideas for an Article
« on: July 13, 2014, 06:05:17 am »
So, if I were to write an article about our lovely esport, what sort of article should it be? What should it be about?  Most importantly, what would you like to read from me, or any esports writer about Guns of Icarus and its competitive scene?

Taking ideas.  I'll put them all in the fish bowl, and see which fish stands out.

On a side note, the next post I will post here will be a draft for the community.  I just want to hear suggestions, feel free to piggy back and run to the absurd, and back again, but please, no negative comments.  Do not disagree with an idea, simple give your own, or enhance someone else's.

Thank you for helping me in this matter.  I hope I can do the community justice with my words.

As my first piece of evidence, I would like to present people's exhibit 1-A: The SAC v BFS match from today's Hephaestus Challenge match.  I would link it, but there is no reason on God's green earth anyone should have to sit through something like that.  Not the broadcaster, not the players, and I would say the audience, but there really couldn't and shouldn't have been an audience.

The only way, right now, to guarantee non stop action in this game, and a winner within a reasonable time without artificial, kept outside of the game, timers, is by playing capture point.

I would also encourage Muse to develop a new type of game mode to make the competitive scene more fun to play and watch, and through the actual game modes, promote action oriented play with timers and guaranteed endpoints contained within the game itself.

My Clanmate is even pushing to try and have this game picked up by MLG.  If they saw that video, I'm afraid of what they'd say about that proposal, or if they'd even bother to say anything.

The game, and the skill and dedication of players, as well as, any audience we hope to achieve, deserve a better competitive standard.  Deathmatch is just not it.

I would also suggest that Deathmatch is the most seemly of gamemodes in other games.  Even the FPS genres have small tweaks to the standard Deathmatch game mode.

I can't be the only one who thinks this.  And I don't want to hear that this will take the long range out of the game.  Crazy King, probably the more innovative of the modes currently in the game, could employ some sniping.  But Crazy King is only 3v3.  Maybe a new 3 point, 2v2, Crazy King?

I'd really like to know what people think about this matter.

General Discussion / No Noob is Good Noob
« on: July 12, 2014, 07:14:19 pm »
Hope that gets some attention.  I think we, the community, should agree to not use the term noob anymore.  It is derogatory, and no one likes being considered one.

I think we should agree to use some other term.  I for one nominate Greenhorn.  We can make it a term of respect for who they are, but also that they are already part of OUR community, and we will not degrade them with malicious terms from OTHER games.  This game is unique.  We should use some more unique language.

General Discussion / Where are they now?
« on: July 12, 2014, 03:14:58 pm »
I was thinking of a few of the guys from way back and what they might be up to or even if we could entice them back into the game.

First up:

Dr Phil

Where in the world is Dr Phil.  And how sad all those players that never enjoyed Lobbies of Icarus with Dr Phil.

Where is Dr Phil?

Feedback and Suggestions / New Heavy Weapon: Deimos Mine Launcher
« on: July 12, 2014, 05:33:37 am »
Quite simple.  Heavy mine launcher that shoots a spread of 3 mines.  Deimos is the twin brother of Phobos, hence the name.

I think in all Tournament matches a ship list with full gun load out should be messaged to the ref of a match before the lobby is opened, after map is communicated.

I have seen matches where teams just have to give up switching at some point, and "being the better man" shouldn't lead to being hard-countered.

Feedback and Suggestions / Ideas for new pilot abilities
« on: July 17, 2013, 05:58:46 pm »
I'd like to see some sort of short term stealth.  Maybe it damages the hull armor while active?

Or maybe instead of a kick function, the captain gets an eject button for those particularly annoying crewmen.

Feedback and Suggestions / Defensive Weapon Type?
« on: July 17, 2013, 11:27:57 am »
So after playing around in the Dev app last night, Javrak and I had a long session of theorycrafting.  One idea that I have had is about defensive weapons.  The Mine layer is sort of a defensive type weapon, or could be used that way, but I am thinking even more defensive.  How's this sound:

Magnetic Coil -- 5 second up time, 30 second reload.  When activated, the entire ship becomes magnetically charged and repulses all projectiles (this would not include the flamethrower).  In addiction, all shots from enemies that hit the shield are reflected off the magnetic shield and become harmful to the enemy.  I don't think all shots should be reflected right back to source, but rather have a real physics type thing that has the projectiles bouncing all over the place, with a chance of the shots hitting the ship of origin or even his buddy ship.

So, what do you think of this or some other type of defensive weapon, or maybe a defensive ammo type?

Feedback and Suggestions / Bring back the Gunner
« on: June 11, 2013, 03:57:16 pm »
I have noticed, as I am sure others have, that gunners are not getting much love.  Becoming more and more rare to find more than one gunner per ship.  The reasons are very obvious, but I would like to see what suggestions could be made to make the gunner class more attractive to Captains and the community at large.

My first suggestion is to give gunners a buff.  Specifically one that makes a lot of sense -- a reduction in reload time.

I'm not real good with the numbers, but I'm thinking somewhere around 20% would be good enough to give Gunners a guaranteed spot on my ship.

Any other suggestions?
