Come on people, this is all getting over-complicated. Now, for skywhales to have evolved naturally there would have to have been sky-beasties for millions of years, and most people seem to be saying that they have come about after the great war... So, I think it's far more likely that the Republic got bored someday and attached a balloon and engines to a whale for a laugh, it's easier than building a whole ship, plus in desperate times you have a reliable food source. (Plus who's going to shoot it? It's a freaking whale, everyone will be to busy gaping)

I am probably about to sound incredibly nooby, but when are carronade's (either light or heavy) preferable to anything else? I've never used or seen them used to any great effect..

I'm thinking of joining the Arashi League so somewhere like the storm islands looks good. It's by the sea, plenty of whales to attach engines and balloons too in my spare time, plus it's close enough to anvala for me to laugh at how hilariously overpopulated it is (or going to be at this rate) :D

Exactly, considering that they are a scavenging nation squabbles could potentially arise from disputes over old tech? (I'm going to blatantly rip off the Mortal Engines series and call it that :D) Like if one town discovered a good haul of old weapons but it was technically in the neighbouring towns territory? Perhaps there'd be some kind of system for dealing with this kind of thing, a scavengers guild or such? But then their greater concern is other nations/raiders intruding and stealing old-tech, some places might be restricted due to dangerous things within but the bold pirates think they're hiding sky whales and go for a gander?

Personally I'm siding with the Arashi, I just like the idea of cobbling together some dodgy weapon out of scrap and accidentally blowing my own ship up with it :)

Greetings everyone, I am one of the swarms of newbie engineers, I was introduced to the game by a friend who bullied me into buying it so he'd have someone to play with, I don't think I'll ever stop thanking him. So far my favourite ship is the goldfish, but engineering it is exhausting so at the moment I'm crewing a Pyramidion with some mates. We camp round the edges of the map and deal out divine merc justice to everything from frankly ridiculous ranges. Very glad to be joining the community and hope to learn lots and find some interesting people :)

Thanks Zill, that's cleared a lot up, didn't think about the fact that anything less than 2 gunners basically makes pyra useless :L And the reversing Pyra trick is a truly beautiful thing when done properly :D

I completely agree with you that it's balanced in terms of guns and piloting :) my concern was the massive ease with which it can be kept in good repair. Even under heavy fire a fairly inexperienced player (such as myself..) can keep it going.

I am an engineer aboard a pyra, I'm finding that out of all the ships I've been on it's by far the easiest to engineer, Using rubber mallet I can hit the hull and then all engines before the cooldown of the hull even expires, the only awkward thing is the balloon, which is solved by having another engineer... Anyone else think there's a balance problem here?
