After telling his epic tale, Thrax hears Honeybadger utter something. He turns to him for a moment.

Thrax
"Blame it on the hellfire! I don't believe we've met. What brings you here?"

Thrax takes a swig from his mug.

Thrax
"This place has more smoke and mirrors than a brothel's dressing room! Haha!"

Thrax grabs a seat next to Lockheart

Thrax
"..How did I end up aboard the Commodore Beckett? My friend, that is a very interesting question!"

Thrax chugs down a whole pint off hellfire as he prepares to tell him his long and arduous tale.

Thrax
"This is why and how!"

Thrax whips out a flask with his initials on them from his Captain's Flak Jacket.

Thrax
"Within this flask contains a magical and mysterious concoction that can transport anyone and anything through time and space itself!
I obtained it from a very wise and very old hermit from the far reaches of the Aberman Valley."

Thrax draws closer to Lockheart as the story gets deeper.

Thrax
"I came across him at a Tavern called 'The Soggy Blanket' in the far and distant village of Kal'Sharok. This concoction is brewed from three main ingredients: dragon's breath from the old dragons of the wastes, the tear's of The Cambodon Highland Mountain Bears, and a mysterious water-like liquid from the far northern reaches passed far Northen Anglea and far passed Northen Firnfeld. It never freezes in the cold and never warms in the heat."

Thrax changes his tone to a more serious manner.

Thrax
"One sip makes your head weary. Two, makes your senses fleet for a little while. And Three sips transports you to a different time and place."

Thrax  deepens his gaze onto Lockheart with a grave and intense tone.

Thrax
"Four however... makes you sleep forever! No one who knows about this mysterious concoction has ever DARED taking four! A friend of mine once tried taking four sips, and the next thing you know, he wakes up half of his belongings gone, nearly bankrupt and  woke up married, in bed next to his cow of a wife! HAHA!"

Thrax he takes a sip of more hellfire

Thrax
"When I first tried it out, I took two sips just before we went into battle during the First War. I was in the front lines for the 13th Legion of the Northern Fleet of The Fjorn Baronies. Next thing I remember, the war is over and I'm being decorated with medals and awards for deeds I don't even remember doing! On a long holiday during the peace times after the First War, I was on a beach shore of a tropical Island called 'Araca' in Northern Chaladon, and I came across my trusty flask once more. I dared to take three sips, I woke up 20 years later, cast away, accused of treason and exiled in an abandoned stable in the middle of the vastness with a barely salvageable Spire Airship I used to commandeer."

Thrax's tone saddens a little. He looks into the distance as he spoke further.

Thrax
"I promised myself never to drink again after that happened. The next 10 years after that were the worst sober years of my life. In my travels I made friends and worthy allies from people from the Order, the Republic, the League and the Merchantile Guild. They gave me
utmost respect and looked onto me as a fellow brother."

Thrax looked down at his feet and took a deep breath before he continued.

Thrax
"...All was well until...u-u-until I met her."

Lockheart sympathizes and empathizes with Thrax. He offers him the remainder of his pint to stop him from breaking down.

Thrax acknowledges Lockheart's offer and accepts the pint. He downs it immediately and continues talking with hellfire still dripping freshly from his lips.

Thrax
"Her name was...J-J..."

Thrax nearly breaks into tears, but he slowly recovers and keeps his composure. He takes a deep breath and a sigh before saying her name.

Thrax
"...Juliet"

He takes a drink from his Mug.

Thrax
"She was an exotic woman, from a far away land - a land which name I forgot. Her hair was long and dark brown, which draped disheveled on her slender shoulders. Her lips red like the crimson sunset, more exquisite than the reddest Parona wild rose. Her cheeks, ever so soft and tender, her skin softer than silk. Her voice, was like music to my ears, it could sweep any man off their feet. She had the bluest eyes which gaze could entrance and mesmerize any man to his knees. I was under her spell.

Thrax stood up and gazed onto the horizon as he spoke further.

Thrax
"Our families despised each other terribly. But we did not want to be a part of our ancestor's quarrels. We wanted to create our own destiny. We did everything to try and stay together while keeping our love a secret. We were caught eventually. We tried to elope and even pretended to kill ourselves at one point."

Thrax looks back onto Lockheart.

Thrax
"All was going well until she met this 'Prince' called Paris. Next thing I know, I get home form a full day of honest labor, and she ends up in his fancy pancy kingdom and she was his 'all beautiful' queen! La di da."

Thrax mutters various profanities that are too overwhelming and vile for a person to hear.

Thrax
"Flaking fancy rich Noblemen... I was so furious and angry that with the help of my allies, I managed to send a thousand airships to get her back and take her away from Paris' city. We threw everything we had at them, and eventually, we only managed to get into the city gates by being hold up inside a massive wooden rabbit and pretended to give it as an offer of peace. Come midnight, we slaughtered the lot and I eventually came to Juliet."

Thrax sits back on his chair.

Thrax
"When I came to her, she was so joyous and eager to see me! She had looked even more radiant and ravishing than ever. She had a new look to her and everything!"

Thrax takes a large cigar out from his pocket and lights it up with a few matches.

Thrax
"But as luck would have it, that wasn't the only surprise she had for me. Just before my lips touched hers, she spoke to me softly and said - 'There's someone here to see you my dear' - I thought she had invited an 'additional partner' to the bedroom. She turned away slowly and stepped aside, only to reveal the worst thing a man like me could ever dream of. The kind of thing that sends shocks that could kill a man in an instant!"

Lockheart sits closer eagerly.

Lockheart
"What was it Thrax??!"

Thrax
"She turned to me...stepped to her side a-and r-revealed a silhouette of a small figure emerging from the shadows of the room. 'He's your son' - she told me. My heart stopped, my spine felt like it was made of liquid and my knees weakened immensely. I was trying to think of any excuse to get out of there, but the only thing I could think of and mutter was - 'I left the toaster on in my ship' - and then I ran out of there as fast as I could."

Lockheart gave Thrax an odd look.

Thrax
"Our unrequited love was never meant to be I suppose."

Lockheart places his palm on his face.

Thrax takes another swig of hellfire.

Thrax
"So there I was running like a mad man, and I just got on The Titan (my Airship) as fast as I could. I put the engines on full speed and made my way as far from there as possible. I was on the verge of breaking down and going mad, to a point where I even tried to jump off in mid air-flight. Luckily I remembered I still had my flask on me. I just had to get out of there, I couldn't handle the stress. I took the flask and grasped it in my hands.

Thrax's tone gets more serious as his story's tension started to build up.

Thrax
"I took One sip, my head started to get weary. I took a second sip and my senses fleeted a little. I took the third, and... well... I woke up on your ship."

Thrax takes out the flask once more and hands it to Lockheart for him to see.

Lockheart
"Is there a name for this magical and mysterious concoction that could cause such things?"

Thrax
"Well, the very wise and very old hermit called it 'Absinthe'."

Lockheart was in awe.

Thrax
"That, my friend, is the epic tale on how I came about waking up on the Commodore Beckett. and I have a feeling the mad adventures aren't going to stop here! Haha!"

Thrax and Lockheart clink mugs together and chug their drinks down.

--Outside the Saloon--

Thrax wakes up from a ditch outside the Burning Skies Saloon He slowly recovers from a massive hangover. His eyes burning from the radiance from the daylight.

Thrax
"...This isn't the Bathroom!"

He gets up and looks onto his surroundings. He realizes that he's stood outside the Saloon. He looks up onto the rooftop and sees Lockheart, Gabranth and HoneyBadger.

Thrax
"Flaking hellfire! I haven't been this hungover since my wedding day!"

Thrax looks discouraged at first, but then his thirst for hellfire convinces him otherwise.

Thrax
"Ugh... Well im here... Might as well!"

He bursts in the Saloon

Thrax
"Daddy's HOME! (Smirks)"

He charges at the barkeep and buys a few pints all round. Rushes up onto the rooftop spilling mugs overflowing with hellfire and ale.

Thrax (to Lockheart, Honeybadger and Gabranth at the rooftop while holding various mugs)
"Sorry bout that lads! I was ermmm... pre-occupied with important matters! DO NOT FEAR! THRAX IS HERE!"

He tries and ignores his head throbbing with pain from a massive hangover.
Thrax approaches the lot and hands out the pints of ale/hellfire.

Thrax
"Hope this makes up for my tardiness! Hehe! What'd I miss? Nothing too important I hope! Sorry bout that. My Sobriety has gotten the best of me yet again!"

He sits next to the lot and takes a large swig from his mug

Thrax
"Ah! Nothing like a lovely pint of hellfire to recover from a hangover! Hehe!"

 Thrax (to lockheart)
"I believe we were in the middle of a conversation last time we spoke before I passed out.... inevitably of course! HAHA!"

--Saloon, THE RUST BUCKET--

Near the city center stood a war ravaged saloon - The Rust Bucket - still standing despite the devastating attack.

In the saloon sat Thrax, right across the bar-keep. Full of gashes and bruises that he is unaware of, not sustaining any serious injuries aside from near-sobriety.

Sat with various empty mugs that he had previously drank from, his breath smelled of Hellfire and ale. His odor of rust and smog from the battle. He sat as he saw Lockheart and Cecelia walk into the tavern.

Thrax
"Saved a seat for ya! Come here! I owe you a pint! You saved my arse! haha!"

Lockheart, first looked reluctant, but soon gave in to Thrax's offer.

Lockheart
"I honestly don't know how we survived that one."

Thrax
"I know!"

Thrax raises his glass and chugs down the remaining hellfire in his mug.

Barkeep
"Try and take it easy. The last thing I need is more problems. I barley made it out of this mess!"

Thrax
"Pffft, this is nothing. It would take a dozen barrels of Hellfire and a dozen more of those abominations to take me down! Haha!"

He raises his glass once more.

Thrax
"Ale all round from me! This place needs it."

Barkeep
"I'll put it on your tab Cap'n Thraxius."

Lockheart looks at Thrax with much intrigue.

Lockheart
"...Captain?"

Thrax
"Indeed my good sir! Captain Thraxius Meridius!  Son of Decimus Meridius of the House Meridius. Former Commander of the 13th Legion of the Northern Fleet of the Fjorn Baronies, during the war of the burning skies - Descendant of The First King Agrius. And so on and so forth!"

He takes another swig from his mug.

Thrax
"Stripped of Rank and Exiled into the vastness - Wrongfully accused of treason. I have been the Captain of The Titan for nearly 30 years."

The Titan being a spire Airship thought to have been obliterated in battle - brought back to life by the the warm pulse of Thrax's bloodlust and vendetta.

Thrax
"Well that's my story... what's yours matey?"

Thrax looks onto Lockheart, awaiting a reply.

--Commodore Beckett--

As Thrax fumbled to the floor like so many times before (with or without the help of ale). He got up as he saw Lockheart crash down onto the main deck. As he heard lockheart's shout in pain, he ran to lockheart.

Thrax
"Don't worry!"

Thrax helps Lockheart up and takes out a flask of liquor from his pocket.

Thrax
"Here take this! Always works for me!"

Lockheart
"Now's not the time!"

Lockheart smacks the flask out of Thrax's hand and it slides off the deck and falls through the skies.

Thrax
"Well for me, NOW is always the time! Suit yourself"

Thrax whips out another back-up flask from his inside jacket. He takes a swig and picks up his rifle and starts shooting.

Karl
"What the hell is that?"

Thrax
"Whiskey!"

Karl
"No, I meant that hulking mass that just came out of nowhere!"

Thrax
"Well if I knew anything about hulking masses charging towards things, I'd probably guess its my wife. But in this case, I don't know.
If it breathes and if it bleeds, shoot it!"

Lockheart
"Damn it! How in the hell are we going to stop that?!"

---Aboard the Commodore Beckett--

As the ship lowers Thrax nods, and immediately grabs a rifle from the armory.  He finds a target and takes aim but his rifle fails to fire.

Thrax
"(grunts) Damn it! Work damn you work!"

Lockheart sees this middle-aged drunken idiot fumble around.

Lockheart
"Damn it man! The safety is on!"

Thrax
"... I knew that!"

Karl
"(mumbles to himself) Idiot."

Thrax takes aim port-side and goes guns blazing on the abominations.

Thrax
"I haven't had a battle this good since I last talked to my wife! haha!"

Lockheart
"Just shut up and shoot! and shoot true with aim! We're running low on munitions"

Thrax
"Aye Aye!"

Just as it seemed that things couldn't get worse. Trax spots something amid the chaos. He lowers his rifle for a moment in awe.
He gulps with a grain of fear.

Thrax
"By the gods! What the hell is that thing?"

Through a cloud of smoke and rust, a large ominous shadow emerges from the shadows of the flames. A large beast, ten times bigger than the ones that they've seen so far. It was the Alpha, the seeming leader of the abominations.

Thrax
"...Umm excuse me!"

Lockheart
"WHAT IS IT??! STOP WASTING MY TIME!"

Thrax points to the direction of the large alpha beast.

Thrax
"Umm... I think I'm gonna need a bigger rifle for this one!"

---Aboard the Commodore Beckett--

-Cargo Hold-

Thrax sleeps on the cheese-grater like metallic floor on the small cargo hold of the Commodore Beckett. As he snored, the Boom from one of the Lockheart Pyramidions falling in flames awoke him from his slumber. Thrax wakes up from a sleep induced by ale and liquor. His head pounding like an anvil being struck by a large metal hammer. He slowly opens his eyes and tried to sit up despite the pain.

Thrax
"How the hellfire did I end up here?"

He slowly gets up on his feet, and then stumbles from the turbulence. He slowly walks out of the cargo hold and stands in awe of what is happening around him.

Thrax
"...This isn't where I parked my airship!"

NAF Data File-008

Is this thing on?...*Taps Mic*

(Coughs roughly) (Spits) (Clears Throat)

While I am in the right mind and since the wine and liquor have already done to me what they were created and brewed for...(belches) let me tell you my story. A memoir if you will.

I am Thraxius Meridius, son of Decimus Meridius of the House Meridius- Commander of the 13th Legion of the Northern Fleet of the Fjorn Baronies, during the war of the burning skies - Descendant of The First King Agrius. Father to a slaughtered family.

Stripped of Rank and Exiled into the vastness - Wrongfully accused of treason by the Mad King Romulus Maximus.

I have wondered the Vastness for many decades, survived it's Stygian landscape.
Traveled all across this realm, from the wastelands of the Arashi desert, to the abysmal waters of the Sea of Devils - in search of those who have wrongfully accused me. Sometimes I think 'War' is the god's way of teaching us geography.

I am a friend to the high consul of The Order, A comrade to the Armed forces of The Republic, A brother of the Brotherhood of the League. Enemy to the Empire and Enemy of my home, the Fjorn Baronies.

I have been the commander of The Titan for nearly 30 years - The Spire Airship thought to have been obliterated in battle - brought back to life by the the warm pulse of my bloodlust and vendetta. The wars may come and go, but my crewmen stay eternal.

I am a verteran. I fight wars with bodies on the ground, with only the warm embrace of wine and liquor beside me.
Everybody should believe in something, and I believe i'll have another drink. Because a man in pain is unreliable.

To my Crewmen and comrades, I say - as we charge in battle, no last wishes and no second thoughts. Never spill the liquor!
To my Enemies, I say - Give the Devil my regards.

*End of recording*

MY BROTHERS! VETERANS! WANDERERS and DRUNKS! Those who have been ravaged by war and those who have been wrongfully accused/betrayed, may find sactum here and find kinship with me, over a drink of course.

World / Re: Fjord Baronies
« on: May 21, 2013, 03:24:12 pm »
Just from reading the things previously posted from above,
things that have been going around in my head:

Government:

Nobility: I think there could be a possibility of having 4/5 main houses of nobility controlling the populace. More of a kingship - inherit by blood sort of thing. (sounds sort of like 'Game of Thrones' i know...)

If not that maybe a 'high consulate' order of sorts, wherein they elect a leader among themselves. A system where there are multiple representatives of state, and one head leading those representatives.

Or you could mix both, a sort of hybrid between monarchy and feudalism.

==========================

Architecture and Culture:

Looking at the map, first thing that comes into mind is Nordic/Gaelic/Celtic influences.
But im thinking why not something more of Sumerian/Babylonian fusion with Nordic/Gaelic/Celtic elements in terms of art and architecture.

It could be that the Fjorn Baronies (since they are strongly rooted in blood inherit traditions) originate from 'The First King' - as in the one stated in 'a time of Kings'. If so, they must have lived for a very long time (perhaps even longer than the Yasha empire) - hence the influence from Summerian cultures.

=================================

Infrastructure and Lifestyle

Going along with the whole Summerian/Nordic fusion thing - I mean with the harsh cold and everything - maybe they have subjected themselves to live underground? Not so much like in caves or something - perhaps something like a post apocalyptic underground mixed with a large underground city much like in 'dwarven lore'. Since after all they were 'ravaged by war'. They would basically live under the ice. Relying on a rich traditional lifestyle aided by ancient superstructures or ancient/futuristic powers - (i.e. discovering Hydrothermal Electricity that was actually build by their ancestors ages ago. Its like if Cavemen found an Iphone).

=====================================

People

Well since its a mix between Feudalistic and Monarchy, first thing that comes to mind is a Roman/Greek.
They could have Traditional Roman Titles/names - Having an emperor or King.
Since the people are war-ravaged and battle hardened from constant power struggles, Titles and 'Survival of the Fittest' should be one of their main traits.

Possibly a mix between medieval Nobility statuses with Roman names

i.e. Remus Meridius, son of Brutus Meridius of the House Meridium - Commander of the 6th Legion of the Northern Fleet of the Fjorn Baronies.

and thats all i got so far.

I think there should be a Role play section in the forums.
Aside from having healthy role play among players, it could also help the devs/mods in coming up with future content for adventure mode.
