I doubt ghost ships would fit with the lore, since that would imply the presence of supernatural forces.

But what if they're just pirate ships coated with phosphorus to scare  the superstitious Arashi military away from pirate raids by making them (the raids) seem supernatural.

I think Arashi are far too down-to-earth to believe in superstition. Also, I doubt phosphorous would be in anywhere near such a supply as for pirates to coat their ships in it.
They're pirates, who, with the original plunder from the Arashi ship they mutinied from, bought enough phosphorus to plague the superstitious Angeleans/chaladonians/Insert_Faction_Here, as I do not believe they are that scientifically advanced (the Angeeans) as they are raiders, who only use technology that helps them plunder.

I remember someone at muse saying they couldn't add counterweights to the bottom of the mobula(realism purposes), because it would count as hull. I think that applies here too. metal = hull

If you have some friends with the game you might be able to get coordinated enough to fire the guns on the harder ships to man, but as of now it is really hard to find a good crew without friends as some games you'll get level 13 engies and gunners necessary for heavier sniping ships, next you'll have 3 powder monkeys (level one gunners/newbies in general).

Maybe they could raise the top right gun? it would allow for CQC mortar spires, and allow for a crows nest one level above the right gun. T'would act like a step towards the crows nest, with a ladder then leading up.

As someone who couldn't fly a pyra to save my life, they are really weak to squids, so with my banshee-flamer combo I can usually outmaneuver them constantly. And, just saying, it is sliiiiiiiightly op with it's blindspot coverable mostly with tar.

Barding brings bad memories of d&d 4e, where I decided to bard. It is hard to bard as a composite being made of shards.

Gat banshee is good for harassing light heavy ships (pyra, goldfish), and is amazing for 3v3 support. I use it on my squid.
