I'm really missing playing the game! It sucks being at sea...

And not being able to see any of the images... This computer has managed to do the impossible and make IE6 (Yes, it uses Internet Explorer 6) and make it even crappier.

I guess it all depends on how the new tweaks pan out. The mine launcher and Mobula are definitely going to change the scene as well. Still...

I've been toying with ideas of how a game mode featuring a timed match, with no kill cap would play out. The team with the most kills when time is up would be the winner. Something like that is something I think would encourage teams to search one another out. Especially as the time winds down.

Gameplay / Incentives to Move
« on: July 07, 2013, 07:20:14 pm »
I just finished showing my roommate a recording of a tournament stream (the 3v3 tournament on Friday). He's a fan of competitive gaming and has a good idea on what makes a game a contender to becoming an esport. He pointed out something which, in hindsight, is an obvious barrier to the esport status like myself and others hope for:

There is no strong incentive to move.

Matches on a competitive level develop a tendency to become long range sniping games with little maneuvering. Both sides sit back and wait for the other to stick its nose out of its hiding spot first. Even I had to admit it was an issue when the stream casters were getting bored and players, myself included, talked back and forth like we were in a chat room as we waited.

I'm not going to try to urge Muse to drop what they're doing on Adventure mode (something I eagerly look forward to) in order to make changes in PvP. What I'm looking to do is put up a thread where the community can brainstorm ideas that would put more emphasis on maneuvering and make the game more fun to watch.

Let's see what we can come up with, my fellow sailors of the skies!

I was sitting around bored on watch when I had an awesome idea. I thought up ways to build and fly a one man airship. I had fun thinking up different construction methods when it occured to me to see if anyone else had done this.

Not only has it been done, but I found instructions!

I'm going to see if I can't figure out a location and a budget to work on one!

Welcome back! Whats an underway?
When the ship you're stationed with goes out to sea for whatever reason.

Much to my dismay. :P I've got about two years left on my contract. Yourself?

Taun-tauns make everything better!

But yeah, we do engine room fire drills pretty often. Instead of getting away from the fire though, we run to the repair locker, don firefighting equipment and go to put it out. Going up and down near vertical ladders wearing heavy, insulated coveralls, poorly fitting boots, hood, mask, SCBA, thick gloves, and a helmet gets really exhausting and miserable.

Haven't had to worry about MOPP for a while, mainly because we just set CBR boundaries in the ship. Then again, there are enough doors with pressure leaks that we'd be screwed anyway.

If it's anything like donning full firefighting equipment, getting in MOPP4 for real would suck... The masks alone... *Shudder* I get real uncomfortable when stuff is going around my head and neck.

While I was playing a game with Squash, Applesauce, and others, a team made up of military members was mentioned. Can anyone tell me who's on that team and whether there's room for one more?

Congratulations on the tournament win! I was able to catch the latter half of the quarterfinals onward and it was a real pleasure watching the teams in action.

Sorry about not being very active since I've joined. I've had to rely on a crummy connection at an overcrowded internet cafe, so my games have been laggy. Rather than making everyone deal with someone who keeps disconnecting and reconnecting, I sat out.
I'm getting an apartment with high performance, stable internet service soon and plan on being much more active.

By the way, love the King avatar, Fluitaire.

You just opened up a time sink on me. I love lore! Even if it's just fanon!

*eye roll* To be fair, I only got to play a match or two with a good chunk of the group. But trust me, I flew badly.

Wait a minute... Never heard of me? Um... I'M THE BEST PILOT EVUR F34R MEH!!!

Don't know if anyone remembers my disastrous attempts at piloting, but I've just found a ship I can handle with something resembling competence. I flew a Galleon well enough to dodge a ramming Pyramideon.

...That sounded a little egotistical...  :-[
