The Lounge / Re: Dreaming about beeing a pilot?

I wanted to but I didn't think I'd pass the math to do it. I transferred school districts at the time algebra was to be taught. The district I went into was already ahead. Played catch up but lost all the base instruction I should have had. Pretty much blew me out of the water for piloting or game dev.

You've played Skies of Arcadia, so take Vyse's advice to Marco: never give up! I was always in the advanced math courses as a kid, and then a similar scenario occurred in high school and I fell far behind. Due to that, I went into nursing, but just recently decided to change careers and now I'm on track for an engineering degree. I started with the basics of mathematics to give myself a proper foundation again, as it's been nearly ten years since I graduated from high school, and I'm having a blast with the maths and sciences.

Greetings. I'm new to the game, but I'm a naval sim veteran, and I've brought a crew with me to help run a tight ship. We're the West Anglean Sky Patrol, and we look forward to seeing you in the skies above. Cheers.

World / Re: My main concern for Adventure mode (And potentially factions)
« on: December 22, 2013, 07:35:55 pm »
I hate to resurrect an old thread, though it's still on the front page here in the World section, but I have some insight into this specific topic based on my experience in another game with a smaller player-base and it may keep some of the newer players around.

I was an avid VTOL pilot in MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf. In the multiplayer Conquest mode, the Inner Sphere factions were each given a set of planets at the start, and factions fought for control of further systems via CTF/deathmatch (each system had a gametype specifically chosen for it). Five factions existed, and the player-base, though small, seemed quite stable and actually increased slightly after the initial mass exodus from the game. The release of the Xbox 360 doomed the multiplayer aspect of the game almost entirely, but I wouldn't worry about that scenario for GoIO. Lots of PC exposure seems to really be effectively getting the word out to players, and as soon as the influx of trolls and miscreants die down, I think we'll enjoy a stable community that increases gradually.
