General Discussion / Re: Heavy Clip: What is it good for anyway?
« on: March 17, 2016, 04:01:56 am »
I sometimes use heavy clip on gatling. Not because of the increasing range, but preferrably I find it useful to keep a steady and consistent stream when firing it.

When firing a gatling with either greased or normal ammo, alot of the bullets will go missing and not hit the armor because of the jitter. Most of it will hit a gun/engine nearby shielding the armor, fly into balloon or completely miss the target.

I find it pretty effective onboard a squid due to the high speed, which makes firing a gatling much more difficult when using greased or normal ammo.

I'm just putting out my thoughts to the table about the arc changes of the mobula.

I can somewhat see the point here of why they've fanned out the arcs so wide out. I believe the idea here was to encourage captains to dedicate each wing to either specific range, disable power and kill power ect. With the front gun specialising on what one of the wings are dedicated to (as stated above ^^).

Although, you'll then only have two players firing at a single target simultaneously instead of three, which is problematic since it's killing the mobula's purpose of being a floating weapon platform. The only solution I can think of is to remove the ladder to the front gun and instead add stairs on both sides, similar to a galleon when running to helm. Which will allow one of the engineers to have easier access to front gun for a trifecta.

Indirectly from my perspective, this is a nerf. Although this can also be a remake to the ship's core playstyle, and show the new way of how to man and navigate a mobula.

referees dont use voice chat
Is it necessary to have a mic? No. It's not a requirement. Although I still find a formed party a simple and convenient way for the captains in the looby to request a pause when needed. It will aware the other captains in the lobby that a pause will take place, which will reduce the risks of a team engaging during a pause, but also save time since you'll hear the request instantly instead of scanning the chat (if it occurs that it's filled with spam, etc.)

What about captains with no mics if so? Well they can still call a pause through lobby chat. This suggestion above, is alternative.

They are also in a party chat already with other referees and organisers, as far as I know.
If so, then what's wrong using other communication softwares if you don't want interference? Such as Mumble, Ts3, Skype, ect. Keep the organisers and referees out of the party formation, and hold them in another group.

Just a thought.

The Lounge / Re: The First Ship You Flew In When You Came Out Of Novicehood
« on: February 23, 2016, 04:03:13 am »
After novice when I lost Its title, for me the metajunker was the masterrace of GoIO (well, not really). It was basic.
Gatlings on bottom side guns, mortars on top.
I started off by having a merc on front gun, since I had an odd playstyle of snaring a ship from a remote distance to later on bring the wrath of starboard/port side. Which in this case worked surprisingly effective, until I realized it was a stiff build because it had a lack of arcs. But still I remember. I had a ton of fun with that build.

I left the junker in the junkyard and moved on with a flakspire that I used when I was maybe at lvl 15-20 as a pilot. Damm, it was a beast. Merc and gatling on top deck, and flak with artemis on bottom deck. I assigned one engineer on bottom on artemis, one on mercury. disable and crush the armor of a ship in a distance and wipe it off the board using a flak. Close range engagements: Top engineer would ignore merc and move to gat on right side. It was effective until I reached the level where players found out the strategy to counter it.

What I fly now: Pretty much squid and spire. Maybe occasionally junker and/or galleon.

Sadly I've never been hooked on mobula. When I've first flown it after novicehood I found that ship pretty stiff to fly with and couldn't find any fun strategies and builds to squeeze from it.

I came from the youtuber promotion

Even if I find all of them annoying now, I can't fully blame them since they were the ones enticing me to play this game in the first place.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: A new "Press and hold" option for pilots
« on: January 30, 2016, 05:23:37 pm »
Novice friendly defaults:

Kerosene - on when selected
Hydrogen - press to activate
Chute vent - press to activate
Impact bumpers - on when selected
Drogue chute - on when selected
Moonshine - press to activate
Phoenix claw - ?
Tar barrel - press to activate

Would have to be changeable though because some people would hate that setup.

Something I've been thinking of would be to add a separate window for toolbar customization, where you can pick each item of how you want them to operate. When adding some items to activate upon pressing (lets say you add Kerosene to press for activation), it will give you a different image of the piloting tool when ingame:
(Upon holding the item and then pressing it, the "Lock" will switch image to "Unlocked", which will indicate that the item is currently active. This is not an accurate representation, but approximate).

Having the option of setting each tool to work like tar does now or like every other tool could be good. I would like having hydrogen and chute vent configured as select then press to use in addition to tar but it probably wouldn't be popular as a hard coded setting.
I think I can agree on this one. With this you can easily get more control over the usage of a piloting tool, and if possible even equalize the pressure for both left hand and the mouse. This can also prevent the common issue to pilots leaving an item active (like kerosene etc.) unnoticed.

But then again, it should only become an option for pilots having its place in the settings. I'm not asking this to be implemented permanently to a pilot's toolbar.
