The final week... This one's going to be fun. Due to the overwhelming number of matches in comparison to a regular week, Week 9's maps are being given out today. Yes, really. Don't look so shocked.
Here're the maps... Don't expect a full writeup for each because that would probably take the rest of the week and kill me. However, I'll include each of the matchups in written form.

Quarter Finals
Match 1: Merry Northern Storm vs The Pastafarians [Map: Canyon Ambush]
Match 2: The Gentlemen vs The Brood [Map: Northern Fjords]
Match 3: Polaris Company vs Black Flight Squadron [Map: Battle on the Dunes
Semi Finals
Match 4: Paddling vs Match 1 Victor [Map: Canyon Ambush]
Match 5: Match 2 Victor vs Match 3 Victor [Map: Duel at Dawn]
Battle for "3st"
Match 6: Match 4 Loser vs Match 5 Loser [Map: The Labyrinth]
Finals
Match 7: Match 4 Victor vs Match 5 Victor [Map: Duel at Dawn]
You have the maps and you have your placements. Seven teams have qualified for the Finale of Season 1 of The Cogs... And any one of them could take it on the day. Are we going to see Paddling knocked from the top at the very last minute? Who knows...
EDIT: Hey guys qwerty here. Made an edit for Swallow; MNS vs PaFa are now match 1, Brood vs Gentlemen is now match 2. He told me he had to switch them. Cheers.

Battle for "3st"
Salute :P

Originally seed 7 played the gentleman and seed 5 played Polaris. Why the last minute switch?
-
I'm going to concur with Smollett, this is the picture you posted with the placements for week 9.

I think you accidentally swapped Black Flight with Brood.
-
Y'all even talked about duRing the stream that it would be brood against Polaris. I was driving for eight hours today and I think I spent six of them thinking about how to combat Polaris.
I think swallow doesn't like me.
-
qualifier c and qualifier c?
-
Ohhh yeah, Coldcurse is right, thus must be how the mistake happened. Nice spot, I didn't even see that.
-
its like the padling fighting the padling

I typed up the week 9 preview in a rush... Which is how we ended up with two finals and two qualifier Cs. I also screwed up the seeding. Here's how it should work.
#1 vs #8 (#8 doesn't exist, so #1 gets the bye)
#2 vs #7
#3 vs #6
#4 vs #5
But instead we ended up with.

Because I derped. Fixed now. In other news: The info I said on the stream, in true Cogs tradition, was wrong. Sorry about that.
-
the whalers will soon join the cogs, but we now have to get our members together because final exams are still going on or just passed and we have to figure out if we have the full team ready.
-
you mean the next season of the cogs?
-
yup
-
Ooh, next season... That'll be SO much easier now that we've got a format to work with.
-
it will indeed be easier
-
the whalers will soon join the cogs
Where have I heard this before?

pulling old cows out of the river again?

Well I drove another eight hours today and spent seven of them thinkning about how to fight the gents so all is perfectly fine! Thanks for the clear-up swallow
-
Just wanted to throw up a fix to the fix.
Due to some of the confusion between the first match set up and the fixed one a compromise has been made.
First matches will not be any different as there is only a swap in sides.

The tipping comp for the finale is up at https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php/topic,963.0.html

Awesome, thanks for all the hard work, Linen.
I have to get in touch with you over Steam or Skype to talk about expanding the tipping for Season 2, if you're interested. Username "D_K_Head" on steam or skype, alright?

I have not really noticed it in cogs yet, but Fjord and dunes sometimes have SUPER terrible and one sided start of game spawns giving one team a HUGE advantage. Is there and safeguard for this in cogs? Can teams call for a restart in those extreme cases? A restart would be as simple as everyone hitting surrender and starting again.
Personally if I'm spend days practicing for a match only to be screwed over by spawning across the map from my teammate (at the start of the game) and no one willing to restart I will be pissed. immediately fallowing if someone uses the phrase "Luck of the draw" I would stab them in the face.
Even if the bad start spawn is in my favor I would want to have a fare fight.
I am talking about rare and very extreme cases of bad start of game spawns.

salute
and will Brood be against the Gentlemen or Polaris?
-
These spawns haven't been so rare lately, honestly I've been expecting to see them in the cogs sooner than later.
-
We've already tried the "Ready, Start" method to control matchups, and that failed gloriously... Restarts would just end in the same way... And in the event that we introduced them to poor spawning on Fjords, they'd just be called for more and more often. Eventually, whenever something isn't quite to a team's liking, they'd have the chance to call a restart and drag out the matches... And I don't want to go down the "Write a rule for everything." path that leads to damaging the actual gameplay in favour of maintaining poorly thought-out countermeasures to stuff the devs have implemented..
Restarts didn't work in Thunderdunes, and they had a very, very good reason to do them. Restarts for bad spawns aren't viable either. You're just going to have to adapt to whatever happens. Versatility in the face of adversity.

i do not remember a cogs match, where bad spawns at the beginning caused unhonest frag, so it doesnot seem to be a problem.

Flying Dutchmen coming soon one day no no for real this time

Yes it hasn't happened YET.
It's a potential situation that cogs isn't prepared or willing to be prepared for I see. I think it would avoid potential very unhappy teams if there was a plan in place.
