Title: Voice command on ship ?
Post by: Big Fat Bob on May 11, 2013, 07:03:18 am
Press V for voice command just like Airbuccaneers would be nice  ;)

"Watch the hull"
"All Hands repair"
"Man the gun"
"Trolololo"

For Non-Microphone user like me, that's the greatest thing I want

Maybe a microphone would be the greates thing You want? xD

But seriously, it's a great idea. Of course some people don't have or don't like to use the microphone (or their microphone is so badly calibrated I have to mute them x.X). Maybe we could even come up with a list of let's say 8 most important commands. Or even separate commands for every class.

I actually have a mic, but like you said, I don't like to use them

The whole Tribes series shows how usefully 'VGS' really is, it isn't just about having a mic,.
For example it is much easier to tap three keys. Opposed to holding down voice whilst turning, adusting speed and height.
In addition if you have text come out at the same time as voice it helps those without or with poor speakers.

I would very much like to see this implemented, if you got creative you could even have taunts.

But tounts for characters or ships?
I want my Goldfish to do a barrel roll every time I kill somebody.

Useful for crew as well as captains.
And maybe have a folder where custom files (sound and text) could be placed, which would replace the default ones. Then people could make speech packs in their own languages, and that would help communication between people who don't speak the same language (well).

Smite has a very good in-game voice command system that's easy to understand and use.

I like the way its used in Tribes and I'm sure it would be pretty good on GoI too so ?1 for Shazbot

I believe this deserves a bump, if this could be implemented then it would help, specially if we lose the hull or the balloon if we're too concentrated on firing at the enemies.

I'm slightly hesitant because I actually LIKE the fact that you pretty much must have a microphone and basic communication skills to be truly efficient. It's a fairly unique aspect of this game, and I really enjoy developing tactics and strategies on how to address a new crew, in addition to worrying about ship loadouts, etc. Adding this in might detract some people, honestly such as myself, from manning up and learning some public speaking skills. I probably wouldn't have gone out and purchased a new headset my second month of playing if there were in game voice commands.

That being said, I totally understand why this IS a good idea. The cross-language aspect is probably the most important in my opinion. This would probably work out quite well, as long as there is a "shazbot!!" or some reasonable facsimile included.
