Title: The Icarus Sky Tournament [INFO]

The Format
The Sky Tournament is a four week, 2v2 event where 16 teams are whittled down through multiple stages, until we have one we can crown the champion of Icarus. We begin with two weeks of Group Stage. Each team is seeded into a group with three others, and between them, five best of one matches will be played. Win two, and you've advanced to the championship bracket. Lose two, we hope to see you for the next tournament. Two teams from each group will advance.

Once we have our eight teams who've passed the group stage, they will be seeded into the Championship Bracket for the third weekend. The four quarterfinals matches will be played simultaneously, as to not have an unduly long round. The semifinals will then leave us with two remaining teams.

You have a week to prepare for your last challenge, for on the fourth weekend we have the Finals Match. Our two top teams will compete in an intense best of five series, from which we will see who truly is the strongest crew in the skies.

The Loot
For each member of our champion team, Muse will be providing one costume item, alongside a gift copy of Guns of Icarus Online. Give it to your friend, your "bro", your compadre. Or keep it for yourself and make a smurf account with an amusing name. We won't judge. You earned it.

The Signup
Post in this thread  (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php/topic,803.new.html)team names and crew rosters. Rosters may be modified at any point, the only hard rule being that nobody may play on two separate teams. You may provide a logo to be used on stream. Teams both old and new are welcome; everyone gets a chance to show their stuff. Signups will close on Monday, May 20th, five days before the event kickoff.

The Schedule
All days are currently scheduled to start at 4PM Eastern Standard Time. You can find that in your local time here (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?p1=179&iso=20130525T16&msg=The%20Icarus%20Sky%20Tournament&ah=3&sort=1). We're estimating each day to run about three hours.

The Live Stream
Each day of the Sky Tournament will be streamed live and cast by analysis wizards Qwerty2jam (http://www.twitch.tv/qwerty2jam/) and PapaParadox (https://www.youtube.com/user/WindAndThunderGaming/videos?flow=grid&view=0). The plan is to have every match on stream, with the exception of the championship bracket, where only one quarterfinals match will be broadcasted with the semifinals, due to time concerns. Be sure to tune in (http://www.twitch.tv/qwerty2jam/)!

Feel free to use this thread to post any questions or concerns you may have. The signup thread is here (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php/topic,803.new.html). You may also add me on Steam (http://steamcommunity.com/id/urz/) to contact directly. Hope to see you in the sky!

Q&A

Why isn't Labyrinth in the map pool?
Being a control point map in an otherwise all deathmatch tournament, it brings some overhead. CP games on average are longer than their DM counterparts, likely increasing the length of the tournament. It also introduces another complicating factor teams to have to prepare for, being a dynamically different game mode. That being said, if there is enough demand for it, or Muse produces a deathmatch version before the tournament starts, it may be added to the pool.

Where are all the thread graphics?
I am not a graphic designer. If there's anyone who's willing to help in that area, please hit me up. Your assistance would be very appreciated. :)

Per stream? It's a 2v2 event, if that's what you're asking.

I'd also like to make clear that signup order has no effect on group placement. All groups will be randomly assigned when signups close.

Is it possible to request to be in a specific group? I'll be away from my computer for the weekend of the 25th, so if my team gets placed in group A or B we're kinda boned. Because we'd just fall apart without me on the Gatling / Artemis.

....That last part may have been slightly sarcastic. >_>

just saying:

it doesnt matter if your boned in a specific group.
if your in another group and win you will be fighting against the the strongest of the other groups.
you have to fight the top of the top anyway.

to be clear:
im not in charge of the rules.

Groups haven't been assigned yet. While group assignment will be primarily random, I'm willing to make small adjustments for teams who have time difficulties.

Thank you. We're ... not entirely sure which of us is the captain yet. But as soon as we figure that out, s/he will talk to you. (http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-sweatdrop.gif)

Even if you don't get 16 full teams, will it still be the 4 groups or will you cut it down to fewer groups?

Rules update:

!. There will no longer be map picks in bracket phase. Map order will be provided for each game in the series.

Several people brought up the issue that the combination of loser map pick and winner loadout lock probably gives the former an overly advantageous position. Upon further consideration, I agree. The counterpick system announced for the Sky Tournament was a simplified version of a much more complex one I designed for another event, involving multiple steps of weapon bans and loadout switching.  In my initial simplification of that system, the resultant would have likely led to much more "swingy" series than it should. The counterpick system now consists of one step: loser may switch their loadout going into the next game. While winners will still be loadout locked, you will know what maps you're going to be playing ahead of time, and can pick your starting loadout accordingly.

Even if you don't get 16 full teams, will it still be the 4 groups or will you cut it down to fewer groups?

Unless 7 full teams signup in the next 36 hours or so (we have 9 currently and two single ships with no partner), I will be cutting to the first 12 teams to signup, making 3 groups of 4 (A, B, C). After that point, there will be a period for late signups, extending to this Friday (May 24th). If we get four additional teams (making the full 16), I will create a fourth late signup group (D), which will take place on the second weekend alongside group C. Otherwise we will just be playing it out with the three groups.

A question that is really important for my team. If the game result is affected strongly by different bugs(as in Cogs semifinals ours ship got stuck in wall 2 times and so gave a big advantage to The Brood), may a team ask for rematch and will these requests be reviewed(replay analysis, discussions with teams captains)?

I want to thank Urz for getting together an awesome tournament! I think I speak on behalf of all the members in The Valiant when I say it was a lot of fun! We did not make it through to the championship bracket, but we will come back (I hope)!
And I want to thank The Falconeers, Polaris and specially the Gentlemen for some of the best(and most difficult) matches I've ever played. I Wish the best of luck to Falconeers and Polaris in the  remaining matches!

And also thanks to Qwerty and papa paradox for putting up with yet one more "sniping-team"  :P

On the subject of the prizes, will they be given out to everybody who played on the winning team in the final, or will they also be handed out to those who played for the team in earlier matches? Just out of curiosity.

I think they would have to give it to all the members who participated on the winning team throughout the tourney
