Title: Who do you credit for who and what you are today in GoIO community?
Post by: Silent Marauder on October 18, 2015, 08:09:38 pm
So basically I had this little idea in my head for the last 20 or so minutes to share, who do you credit for who you are today in the most awesome game about airships - Airships: Conquer the Skies Battlefield Guns of Icarus. Please keep it as clean as possible.

Archriel (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=26670) - Duh, of course I'd credit the guy, who tought me very basics of what and why with his infinite supplies of patience. Without him, I'd probably be some random scrub loading Hwacha with lochnagar ammo.
Dementio Daniel (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=163692) - The person, who made me run around Mobula quick enough to repair stuff and encouraged to actually communicate with the captain. He stopped being pissed 24/7 with me onboard, so I guess I started doing things right. Most of the time.
JarmenKell (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=227201) - Stealing all of Daniel's patience surely was a lot of fun, was it? It allowed me to make less mistakes and forced to play better than casual scrub.
GurasOguras (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=221989) - A friend and rival for as long as I can remember. Thanks for forcing me to buy this game! I wouldn't meet people on this list without your constant babbling Buy Guns of Icarus! Let's fly together! :3
FredTheFifth (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=218907) - For flying with me long enough to pass the word of my existence to Ryders and supporting me in reaching this goal. Also, wrecking me over and over in XCOM until I've learned something. Yes, I still remember about mauling you to death with a pipe wrench. The object of hate of entire community. :3
Lueosi (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=120299) - For constant blabbing about why *insert anything* is not done properly/quick enough/at all. Christ, how much I hated you for that, but looks like listening to it payed off. Just don't do it again, please.
GeoRmr (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=170725) - Thanks for being an icon of gunner and barrier to pass. Flying with and against you teached me how to shoot accurate and quick enough to outshoot most of people. Why Marauder? Every (...) time! still rings in my ears.
Wundsalz (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=113414) - Your Junker still haunts me in my nightmares, yet forcing me to play with Hades 24/7 until I've started to hit enemies instead of buildings on Paritan was a cancer to me. Thanks for doing that, I'll shoot you to death first chance I get.
Lochnagar (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=217241) - Flied with me using fun builds instead of meta and hard-counters, helped me get some more problematic achievements. Basically someone, who'd kick my sorry ass when having mental breakdown about how bad I shoot.
Hillerton (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=105021) - The charismatic type that would make me do stuff and try to make me not regret doing it. Helped me during hard times with mental health and discussed stuff about the game and catgirls. Just please, do not ever tell me again anything about male cats. Ever.
Ayetach (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=221411) - The friendly guy who's always laughing at stuff and never sounds down. Lifted my spirit more than one or two times. Your moral support, even unintentional, was priceless!
Skrimskraw (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=28771) - To be honest doing silly stuff with you was fun, but talking about sexual intercourses with Guras' sister was filling me with so much anger that I wished nothing but for you to be at the other end of the Hwacha. Thanks for being that target, teached me how to disable ships properly with as little effort as possible using liongun. No hard feelings!
Llamas Unite (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=146130) - For doing silly stuff with me like 1080 noscope ramkills, helping with organisational part of clan and describing everything I need to know about it.
Allien' (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=217065) - Thanks for talking even less than me on Mumble. Because of it my overall lack of communication didn't seem as bad. Awesome shooting, mate!

Of course I can't point out every single randomly met person from lobbies of Icarus, but thanks for having patience when flying with me as a pilot! You rock!

Oh god, my list isn't half as comprehensive - but I will list what I can!

The Muse team for making this game

TotalBiscuit for making content for this game in beta which led me to pre-order. If only I hadn't been in Spain on launch day - I might have not had a full stop in my name today ^^

All the guys from back at TAW - we may not have been the greatest team, but we had a blast and got some kills on people who played more than us and had more experience than us. And I am glad you trusted me as your competitive leader!

Skrim, for teaching me everything about competitive, I went from getting essentially pubstomped in matchmaking to piloting alongside the best in no time!

Everyone who greeted me in lobbies and invited me to games when I logged in - I've never felt more wanted in a community than when I would log in, get invited to a match full of faceless green names who would greet me like an age old friend!

CA's for voting me in to CA-ship 2 years ago! I've had a great time helping newbies and chatting with you all!

The lads from The Pit - giving me things to do when I procrastinate from procrastinating!

All my current clan-mates. I thought I would only need to brush up my skills to get back on par with other teams for my "grand return", however you guys showed me that Skrim only scratched the surface of this game! Additionally you guys took me in when I had lost all my friends in the space of 2 weeks. So I am deeply thankful that you guys in particular, as well as the rest of the community took me back in after my long affair with competitive MOBAs!

Love you all, full homo ;)

ass-kissing thread

Learned to pilot from watching Zill, learned to gun from watching Yiski. Still haven't learned to engi as Shink was not an excellent choice to watch...

Riggato, if it weren't for him constantly taking sniper Mobulas, I doubt I would possess my skill with the mercury. And for teaching me to use mines, and that anything that moves is the right target when using mines.

BdrLineAzn, you taught me a lot of interesting parlour tricks and some all round good tips.

SapphireSage, he showed me more of how to be a good engineer than anyone else. He gave advice when I started piloting.

SillyBunny, he helped me get flak kill achievements, which in turn got me rather good at it.

Every last member of the DAGZ, I was in a rough spot when I joined, but Impy let me join and I've had nothing but good times flying with you. (current WiFi gets me over 200 ping on American severs, if it can even connect. I will play regularly again whenever possible.)

Honorable mentions

Koali, we may not have flown much, but you helped revive the Cantina giving me a chance to flesh my character out into Alister Carn, before he was just a vague picture in my head called Carn.

ShadedExalt, between you and Koali I have constantly enjoyed the insanity we create in the Cantina.

Guess I'll add a few

Twinkie D lite: for giving me something to aspire to.

The Gentlemen and the Ducks: for kicking me and my mates into the ground constantly (built character and determination)

Gullyman: Setting the bar in friendliness

Cake: Excellent sportsmanship/Bagels!

Always nice to be hardcore dissed on the forums, I dont even know you and dont think we have been talking a word to eachother at any point? As for Guras sister, i dont think I have ever insinuated that I wanted to have intercourse with her, but as a friend of guras and per clan fun I have made a joke or two about his sister, just as he has made a joke or two about my girlfriend. So I dont even know where you got that from, since you and I never talk?

I'll drop a couple in here too:

Silverst, an ex-duck who took me under his wing and taught me almost everything I know about the game.

Lueosi, one of the people who encouraged me towards competitive play, always offering skrims for any team I've been part of, even if my team complained that we were just a punching bag at the time, and also a good friend.

Llamas Unite, my brother from another mother after a funny incident where someone thought we were brothers and a guy who's always been there for me to talk/vent to and was around to listen to my woes during a rough patch.

Josie Fii, another person who supported me in the early days of playing, answered questions and has been a great friend.

Inkjet, because chatting for absolutely hours about gameplay mechanics is always great! :)

Zanc, a true gent abd friend, very down to earth and laid back, Zanc has been the inspiration to more recent events. :)

Openart, dudes a great engineer, but don't put him on a shooting position, he never stays still, a player who's played many matches along my side and hopefully many more.

Ightrill, the guy I flew alongside for my first ever competitive match, taught me a lot, always great to play with.

MightyKeb, seeing Keb progress has been a genuine pleasure, and he is very dedicated, always fun to chat with (even if I cant always reply :( ) this guy will likely be one of the big names of he continues his dedication that he's shown thus far!

I'm sure there's many, many more names for this list, but I think that's enough dramatic butt kissing for me to have done for today. :)
I'm sure there's many more I didn't mention

This is a pretty cool idea.

Kamoba: Taught me how to play on his Metamidion when I just started, still a good friend this day.

The Gents: Having the tag always reminded me that I am a Gentleman, and should behave like one no matter the circumstance. Also a great community with a lot of cool people - Foxx, Tora, Strought, Mizta - just to name a few.

My Mad Hatters crew in the past (Princess Tutu, Schwerbelastung, c-ponter): Basically all the competitive experience I've had; it was a lot of fun.

The Bards: For Music and all their cool names.

All the nice people in the community: Really made it a more pleasant experience to be around.

The Bards: For Music and all their cool names.

I will consider this a direct mentioning of myself :P

I has a few:

Bambi (formally Zelda) - Lots of fun games together, Also bestowed upon me the title Bard.  8)

Sir Steffen - Lots of Moonshine, Lots of Mines, Did I mention Tar Barrels? None the less, a fine player and lots of fun games together.

Tipz N' Tricks, Kamoba, DJ Logicalia, .Daring Do. , Elazul, Nanoduckling, Carridin, Hypnopotamus Rex, Jawjee and other Bards - Always a blast playing with. Great music, most of the time  :P Taught me a lot of things and currently trying to introduce me to the Competitive Scene...

Satchmo &  Human Duracell - Lots of fun to fly with, great times streaming together and great teachers.

All CA's and Devs in the community  - Really friendly people, very enjoyable to fly with and help.

And finally, everyone who has had the pleasure to fly with me or get to know me. I has well over 30 people I can mention but It is probably best I end this entry...

Also, every person I have every person I have taught and helped :)

I blame Rear Admiral Zill for me being the clanless misanthrope that I am today. When I joined the game there was always a lobby filled with Zill and the players that would day become the Merry Men. I added Zill to my friends list so I could track that lobby and not join it.

It is said that you can only learn by facing opponents above your level; but when the other team has two fully staffed ships of people who know how to work together, and you are fielding a crew that is flying together for the first time, there is no learning that can happen there.

It is why I proposed the ship shuffle to break up these one sided clan lobbies. It is also why I join ships filled with complete strangers, so new people can see what working with an experienced player is like before they invariably quit.

In all honesty, I probably would have avoided joining a clan and kept on flying with complete strangers, with or without experiencing Zill's lobbies. There has to be some one to blame and I don't feel like pointing my finger at Shink.

Zoo and Kubitsuri - for gunning on my flak fish when I first started to play. Teaching me that only good pilots get good gunners.

Squash -  for showing me the power of the long range galleon.

Sammy B.T and Frogger for making me jealous of there Junkers.

Crafeksterty - For inspiring me to bring a spire to the SCS

Inkjet - For showing me how important a buff engineer can be.

Sparklerfish - For making me take mine builds instead of hard countering.

Well...

SPQR for taking me in first, though I didn't stay long, you guys are cool.
OG SREP for derpy fun and silliness.
Clan Clan for showing me mines and teaching me to git good scrub.
Rydr for showing up on time to give us our weekly spanking but seriously fynx pls
Everyone who gives up their weekends to help make competitive events happen.

Nietz for flying us around and dealing with our endless complaints and being generally incredibly chill.
Vanya for showing me it's just a game.
Steamy for showing me it's okay to want to win even if it's just a game. Also for being a super MLG pilot even if he's allergic to squids.
Tfaltys for being my other engi half.
Hummin for shooting things good.

The dozens of green names that make dropping into a lobby so friendly.

It really is the people who make this game worth coming back to again and again.

Daniel for how to mobula.
Fynx and Keb for inspiration to fly kill squid.
Renaulde Northwind for the triple mine pyra.
Everyone who used blenderfish for the experience fighting them.
Playing with AI and the importance of constant engine burning.
Muse for nerfing the pyra so I stopped using it.

Who do I credit? Most of them are not in forum.

Mr.Disaster and his brother Alko./alkomaster for getting me into this game, teaching basic ropes and definitely ot having patience for me, which forced me to rush my ass to learn them and not anger my friend.

LeonXross - Goddammit this guy was furious when you fucked up. But also it was a great fun to fly his fun-builds, it was rewarding to do good job aboard his ship. Thanks to him I've learnt how to move aboard Mobula, and how to operate it as pilot. Rest In Piece my friend (no, he is not dead, he just stopped playing it). The most satisfying - to hear him saying out loud he trusts you, and calling you an "awesome engineer". Damn I miss those times.

Waffleghost - for being a great pilot, charming and good person, contrary to me. It was fun to play with him.

CalicoJack, JimJimmington and other Specialists - for being patient, friendly, showing me how to chem, and being worthy opponents for the beginner-pilot-me.

Ceresbane - The embodiment  of "how not to act if you don't want to be seen as a total asshole". No offense.

I'm still a pub player, the one who knows some shit around, still keen to learn. Also, a half-retarded lunatic.

I remember playing with Leon!
4v4 and we all had mobulas with all Hades, we positioned ourselves one on top of another so it was a tower of four mobula reigning fire on the poor enemy who came near.
I was one of 2 deaths that round...

Me, Sir Steffen and Leon once took 3 squids on a 4 v 4 Flayed Hills.

Each ship was called Crp Arrow One, Two or Three.

Was a blast using Tar Barrels and Moonshine

Hm, okay.

An unnamed (unremembered) hero: Teaching me the ranges and deployment heights of mines across the four ranges loadout, showing me just how much fun I can have throwing balls around.

The Mann: Admittedly we don't know each other all too well, but during my lowest point in GoIO, when I was set to pack in the game due to being shit sick of playing against stack after stack, he became the first person with a degree of game knowledge to sit down and take a session out with me. I had more success and a lot of fun, and I learned a little about flying more conservatively and communication.

Skrimskraw: Made no efforts to protect my feelings when flying with him shortly after I joined Predators. Did me a lot of good in terms of improvement, as he made me realise that I wasn't mediocre, I was actually bad at the game. Nowadays is somewhat of an enigma to me. But, cheers anyway.

TheMightyKeb: Basically showed me how the squid is not a steaming pile of gorilla excrement designed to trap stupid players in an endless cycle of losses. I learned a lot about piloting, how to use tools and how to weight up an engagement simply by being a part of his crew. Additionally, taught me effective and efficient squid crewing.

The rest of T.Pr: For being the first every clan I ever joined in any game, ever. Also for putting up with my intoxication, be it alcohol or otherwise, on a frequent basis... Also, certain members in particular, for appealing to my biases and basically confirming how much I hate almost all anime and the surrounding culture.

Everyone who ever replied to my threads begging for tips: I was guilty of it. Approaching the forum with a very specific issue with my play or whatever, and making a thread in the hopes that the big boys would pick me up and escort me to mummy for a bandage on my scraped knee. Either way, you all did a lot of good in changing the way I look at the community, the game and myself (as a player). Thank God only a couple of you are total dickheads.  :)

Anyone who ever replied to threads I made asking for tips, you guys helped start me down the path to not being horrible at the game.

I have a long way to walk down that path yet.

The Bards for being the first clan I've been in ever, and generally being cool guys.

MightyKeb, for discussing game mechanics with me and swapping tips for hours.

Logicalia, who said he was gonna train me but we have yet to actually do so.  Not his fault, I fact I put him here because I know this can only help (When we get around to doing so)

Everyone who's put up with my bad gunning, piloting, and engineering ever.  I was the scrublord of all scrubs for a short time.

I have now ascended to being roughly 80% scrub free.

Honourable Mentions:

Carn and Koali for being part of the Cantina revival, and helping me build my own character from an odd, wandering tinker with a mass of mysterious resources, to an engineer and part time tinker dedicated to his craft and spreading the teachings of how not to be an idiot.

Crediting Starker, for gifting me, adumb and Extirminator the game, and all three of them for making me pilot. Blaming the first two, for them not continuing playing the game.

That random dude whose name, I think, started with an "A" who, when I was his ally on a random Fjords match, explained to me that when you have an all explosive Spire (Hwacha, Artemis, Mortar, but with a bottom side Carronade) you need some piercing damage to win every game. Without this guy I wouldn't have looked into the internet to understand how ships, pilot tools and ammo types work. Not engineer tools, because nobody cares abouth those, since Mallet, Buff and Fire Extinguisher is the best combination, always.

GeoRmr for inviting me to the Rydr clan (which totally nobody has ever had any problems with).

Lueosi and Hillerton for occasionally stacking the lobby so they could get some team practise, while I was on the enemy team, which thankfully was 3v3 rather often. Because of things like that I actually had to think about how to actually win against people that know how to play the game, which tends to be an exciting experience.

Allien', JarmenKell and Extirminator (again) and GeoRmr (again too) for probably objectively being the best crew anybody could get when starting to play this game competitively.

All those competitive teams for giving me the option to improve upon myself by either watching them play or by playing against them myself.

Literally everybody who ever joined my ship or was my ally and listened to my orders and executed them like I wanted them to, even though I can often be hard to understand. They are the reason why I understood the concept of teamwork in this game and why I could have fun when playing the game with or without stupid loadouts, silly allies and mean enemies.

LordFunPants for being the guy that designed the Mobula, because Mobula OP.

The guy that called Extirminator "Extinguisher", never even played with him, but he must be awesome.

He stopped being pissed 24/7 with me onboard, so I guess I started doing things right.

I am never pissed, just disappointed when you fail me.

I would like to credit Genesis [ˈgɛnezɪs] or short G [geː] for everything I had the chance learning in the past few weeks and everything I'm still trying to figure out. She is a true inspiration and always has something nice to say (even when I still try to get the hang of piloting). She taught me everything she knows ever and is literally the nicest person in the world. If you ever need a nice person to play with please message her. She loves it.

Love you granny <3 bisou.

I'd like to thank my mother, my father and most of all my family.

...seriously though, I credit the Muse team for what I am and do in the community today.
Talking about gameplay, I'd have to give Satchmo and Captain Roy some credit for teaching me some tricks.

First credit:  Nate Dawg---whereveryouare---For being my first awesome pilot which kept me in the game...and ultimately teaching me how to handle a squid.
Second:  Captain Roy for teaching me how to Galleon
Fourth:  Spud Nick for being my favourite lumberjack pilot
Third:  Zu'ka....because we had too much fun with mines

Frankly if I have you in my stalker......Friend's List...you did something that left a good mark in me.

First, thanks to the Game Grumps for putting this game on my radar, even if they just dick around in every game they play :P.

Second, thanks to Logic and uh, Bambiraptor for helping me pull the Bards out of obscurity into something real.

Then there's Thaedael who I learned a lot about Montreal from.  He was also the first guy who I ran a solid ship with.  In time, I also ended up playing with Synria as well, whose wit can cut anything.

All the Bards have been great, from the dedicated main members who have been a strong core to the loose cannons I recruited for their wackiness to spice things up.  Your love of music is what bonds the clan together and allows us to share something great with the rest of the Guns of Icarus world.  Special mention to Daring Do for finally caving in and joining, sactownkid for being my first MVP gunner, and the newer European section of the Bards lead by The Mann and Hypnopotamus Rex for giving us worldly appeal.

You can't forget Muse who put in a lot of work through hurricanes and kickstarter pushes to make the game.  It was an absolutely amazing experience the first time I played and completely blew me away.  After about a thousand hours, the honeymoon phase has passed, but the solid and very refreshing gameplay has been solid.

Thanks to all the new friends I made recently, like Tyton, even though I don't play quite as often anymore.

And lastly, thanks to all the fans/listeners of the Bards.  The one goal was to spread good music to the community, especially during long lobby times and breaks in action on large maps.  Those of you who appreciate the music we bring inspire us to keep doing it.
