Title: A more visable combat log
Post by: Caprontos on September 15, 2015, 07:56:03 pm
I don't play rocket league but I've seen it and when people  get goals (and maybe other stuff) you get a very viable pop up along the side.. Looks like this:

So something that shows this for part destruction rebuilds and kills.. To make it very visible.. - Not necessarily exactly that style or THAT visible.. But the same idea.

I think this should be optional, like a simple toggle between this idea and what we have now.. Cause I can see when you don't care or it might be distracting an some people just flat wouldn't like it.. So Options...

Maybe even an option it only shows this visible one for specific types .. So maybe just kills, not part breaks or rebuilds.. Or just rebuilds.. etc.

Thoughts?

expanding on that idea.

You have a  series of tick boxes on what you actually want to be told.

e.g. you can tick off whether you want to be informed if an ally is spotted or not.

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing something like this. Another idea to add to this would be to make anything related to yourself, your ship, and/or your allies more visible than the general kill feed, kind of like how Team Fortress 2 does it.

Preferably set to "on" by default, so we don't have the same issues with the default class being gunner and default engineers not getting chem.

More visible is a great idea and here's a few thoughts. Slightly larger and bolder fonts, possibly with a fading out background. Icons could be displayed for component destruction and rebuild. The floating icons on the ship can be recycled. Example white gun for rebuild or red engine for destruction. Size and placement of the icons will need to be tested.

Very good idea, would love to see combat log improved. Right now I never bother to look at it, because it's just time consuming as it is imo.

My suggestion would be to have icons like:
Bob repaired balloon = balloon icon and green wrench on/inside it
Bob destroyed balloon = balloon icon and red X on/inside it.
and so on for other components...

Or UT-like death strings. But preferably optional, because of readability.

Goldfish got smacked down by Pyramidion.
Junker riddled Mobula full of holes with the Gatling.
Galleon was vaporized by Spire's Heavy Flak Cannon!
Squid was eradicated by the unholy power of the Harsh World.

That... Would be pretty amusing.

Old combat log was fine.  The colours were bright and you could read it by looking over.  It wasn't as good as it could be, but it worked.  New combat log, with the shadow effect on the coloured text, is horrible for trying to read quickly and forces you to concentrate directly on the letters to see what's going on.  Not only that, but some messages now take up two lines.  This combat log is definitely an area for improvement now, as it has gotten markedly worse.
