Title: Non-cosmetic Avatar customization

As it is the game lacks individuality.  Everyone seems to be more or less the same.  Sure the ships are different, skill sets that each player brings are different as well as strategies involved as a result.  Is that enough?  I don't know for other players but it sure isn't for me.  More in-depth attribute/skill customization would add depth to this game in a way that would benefit the developers many folds.  Take a poll on this to see what the community response is.

There's no attributes or skills, it's all skill and experience. Wrong game, maybe Muse will do it in the future like co-op.

It 'could' be interesting but I'm not sure whether it would be good for the game. The idea Muse is trying to sell is: everyone has equal possibilities (and whatever they do with them it's theirs).

I think some idea that is a bit similar to yours is stamina, because it grants different "abilities" to different classes. Perhaps something like "Stamina slots" as in class slots could spice things up a bit but it's too much hassle to do and no one seems to want it really. Stamina itself have been recieved cold enough.

Muse should look at the big picture.  There aren't many players that play this game, which means they've got to do something different or enhance it, and I believe it's the latter.  It doesn't have to be what I suggested, but the game's got to ride whatever momentum it has in order to breach deeper into the money pie.  If not, it'll just go straight to the grave of games, along with its lore loving hardcore fans.

I don't think attribute customisation would add much depth to the game and neither do I think that much depth is missing. you'd end up with a situation much like League of Legends where the mastery & runes systems are just a redundant way of disadvantaging less experienced players - redundant because their inexperience puts them already fundamentally at a disadvantage.

There are comparatively few indie games that achieve a massive breakaway success on a budget like GOIO.
The fact that GOIO is not one of these unbelievably successful indie projects does not mean the devs are doing something wrong. There are fundamentals of GOIO's design which I think leave it poorly equipped to maintain mass appeal: high learning curve, slow pacing; major focus on teamwork with little individual gratification; roles that are sometimes boring or feel unimportant to the outcome; long lobbies necessitated by the need to coordinate loadouts.

Most importantly I think, the game is really only fun when you're playing with fun people, and rapidly becomes unfun if even 1 or 2 members of your team are unfriendly or incompetent. Contrast to other team games like Dota which manage to be enjoyable despite a permanent assumption that your team will be assholes. that alone I think means you have to try quite hard sometimes to create the conditions in which GOIO can be enjoyable which sort of explains why it's quite common for people to lose interest quite quickly.

I think you have found yourself put off the game by one or more of these issues, probably most importantly never really making any friends to play with, and are now mistakenly pointing fingers at this supposed "missing" feature.
I guess maybe harder progression might motivate players to stick at the game longer and increase the chance that they discover the good side of it? but that could be achieved just as easily with a better designed soft-progression without compromising balance.

Even if a detail of GOIO's design has somehow handicapped its potential, there are a plethora of issues such as the eternally disappointing UI, never having a good matchmaking system, sloppy and inconsistent cosmetics, and lack of features to really mitigate the learning curve, that have played a more important role than the lack of hard progression. But again, I think those problems, while irritating, probably never wasted much of GOIO's potential because unfortunately its potential playerbase is inherently quite low because it's not a style of game that a great many people seem to want to play.

Think about it like this, when a lvl 2 captain gets disconnected, and a lvl 45 engineer then takes the helm. Suddenly they are doing miles better.
That is because the game is based on skill, adding attributes and stuff would take away the ability to do everything. tools is simply speciality.

Well, good luck.  Be sure to stay afloat, because this game's balloon has been losing its air and that engi better be good in keeping the game afloat.

I didn't need 1 week to know.  All I needed was a second to glance over at the number of active players online to know that the game is barely afloat.  If there are so few player base during a Steam summer sale for $3 and change, well now, it speaks volumes doesn't it?  Then there's this forum.  It's dead.  I've been messing around in the The Cantina section because it's by far the most active part of this forum.  Basically no one's talking about this game except for ole' faithful hardliners that keep singing praises while the ship is sinking and hardcore role players reminiscent of D&D.  By the way despite my mild trolling I'm quite fond of these role players.   

Anyway I standby my forecast.  If this game stays its course it'll hit a cliff somewhere and no one will be there to pick up the pieces.  As a successful business owner I know that criticism is more important than praises.  It pays to face the reality and do something while there's still time.  Who knows, co-op & adventure mode might just do that.  We shall see.

I wonder if you realize you've all but proved my point.  You find me annoying because you know I'm right, and it bothers you that I'm writing the truth.  Successful entrepreneurs do not face the other way, they face the truth and overcome.  Muse definitely has the right idea, but it's still a long way from striking gold and it's got to do it soon before the "steam" generated from summer sale tapers off.
