So this is a more serious RP thread then the Tavern run by Koali, but not quite as much as Burning Skies. Ground rules are that it is strictly canon, and I do consider Burning Skies and Skies have no limit, as canon. If someone wishes to post something that would initiate a quest, I ask you pm me and make sure it is Ok, I don't want to clutter up the cantina with a new quest thread every other week. For now, unless more people get involved, I'm not going to implement the night-lock Yiski did in Burning Skies. I will instead post a end of day, then new day, when I post in the morning. I also ask that people post in the third person, keep out of character posts in parentheses (like this), and if they control more then one character, they put parentheses specifying which one it is, before the dialogue.
The setting is a group of mercenaries, who for comical reasons have decided to turn the front room of their HQ, into a bar. Enjoy, hope this goes well!
Alister Carn, Commander of The Gears Mercenary Company, grunts as he hangs up the sign above his door. It reads, The Blasted Galleon, and it hangs next to another sign saying, The Gears Mercenary Company. "Blasted grease monkey, I'm never letting him order the booze again." Walking inside, he continues to mutter curses under his breathe. Most of which are directed at the rookie who ordered the company, far to much booze, requiring that they turn the front room into a bar. Alister Carn isn't much of a people person. He's a mercenary and before that, he was a sergeant in an Anglean Marauder unit. Still, you've got to make a profit to survive in this world. Looking at the city through the window he mutters "Particularly here in Cathedral." Flipping the sign hanging on the door to open, he goes behind the bar to await the customers. Whether or not they want booze, or to hire The Gears for a job.

a goldfish putters into port to a stop. the engines seems to be engulfed by smoke and a bit of fire. a frantic engineer starts blasting the engines with some fire extinguisher fluid and proceeds to yell at somebody. nobody can hear it of course besides the faint sounds of what seems to be arguing. then the captain of the ship stands in view of carns sight as he just stands theyre letting the engineer berate him....he then says something to the engineer and the engineer goes compleatly of the deep end by yelling at him some more. the captain starts walking to the bar and opens the door. carn then hears something that the engineer says.
(engineer)"AND WHEN YOU GET BACK DONT THINK IM GONNA GO NICE AND BE-"
(captain)"oh calm down....by god man keep it calm ill be right back.."
(engineer) he then turns around and grumbles something vulgar at the engines.
Your name is Isaac Spades. you wear a black and white war room suit with a raven symbol on the front a hat adornes your head with the raven logo as well. and you have a mask (avas demon) on for high altitude engagements or to hide your face.
(Isaac Spades) "ah hello..we had some troubles with our engines and i was wondering...do you sell new engines for goldfishes"
(engineer)somehow the engineer heard that and also yelled back "DO YOU ALSO SELL NEW CAPTAINS. CAUSE HES A #$$%#@#$"
(Isaac Spades) you let out a sigh and say"never mind him hes just a bit angry is all....now where can i find new engine for my goldfish sir?"

(Carn) scratches his chin "We don't sell engines. But I can get one of my boys to take a look at it, for a price. Welcome to the Blasted Galleon. The newest drinking establishment in the city of Cathedral. Well, the front room is anyways. The rest is still Gears HQ. We are a mercenary company."

A rock in the corner of the room begins to talk.
(Rock): "Hey, can I come out now?"
It shakes off the dust and grit that have settled on it over time, revealing it to be not a rock, but a small, round, pink fellow wearing a green Revolutionary with a red scarf.
(Koali): "Or am I still in time-out for buying too much booze?"
(Note: that wasn't Stone form, I was just in time-out so long that all the dust and grit made me look like it.)

(Carn) "And you were just starting to blend in." sighs "Come on."

"Hmm Yes I think ill-" sees koali....
"Umm...who...and what.... is he?"
You look perplexed as you look at the strange pink little ball.

(Carn) gives Koali a deadpan stare "The monkey who ordered us too much booze. Oh, and he's the product of a failed Yeshan mutation lab."

(Isaac Spades) "I see...I suppose that makes sense with all the strange and peculiar experimentations that the yeshans do..."
Sees his engines on fire as the engineer curses and starts spraying them with more fire extinguisher liquid.
(Isaac Spades)"The names Isaac Spades. I'm a detective from the fjord baronies on a case of some missing valuables from a baron. Seems like somebody sabotaged are engine and left us here."

(Carn) pulls out a sketchpad "Got a description? If you want, you can post a bounty on him here. That should get the whelps out hunting, provided the price is right."

(Gaige) "You mentioned engine trouble? I'm your man. Oh, I see we've finally opened?"
A tall, wiry, white haired man in a white Khovansky jacket walks out from the back, stretching and scratching his head with a spanner. His face is heavily scarred, yet handsome, and he has a variety of engineering tools at his belt, along with a wicked looking ivory handled, brass plated revolver.

(Carn) "If nothing else, you can check your contacts in the city. Somebody's gotta be selling engines. By the way, how are the funds? I dread to know the setback the monkey's booze mix up cost us."

(Isaac Spades)"That's the problem we've never seen his face. However we do have clues that he's around here somewhere...however me and my two crewmates are sorta tired and need a momentary respite. "
Sits at a barstool. "Oh do you have any apple cider...and if so make that two I think my engineer is not in the best sunshiney mood today "

(Carn) puts down the pad "Ah well, you can hire the whelps if you need some muscle. They're greener than a Chaladonian parrot, but they know this city, and they've got strong backs and arms. Just know this, nothing illegal. Can't afford to have my boys end up in the city jail, because of a job." checks the various boozes available "We've got ale, vodka, whiskey, and rum. Nothing else besides some stuff you can mix in."

(Koali): "The booze cost us everything. We've got no money now. Wait, what? Nothing illegal? Aren't we mercenaries? Don't we fight and kill for money?"

(Carn) "EVERYTHING! Gah! Maybe I can get the council to throw us a bone. And as for illegal, how many times do I have to remind you? We don't do assassinations, we get hired by a city to wipe out pirates, or by a faction to bolster their ranks in an invasion. Some other things here and there, but I try and not piss off governments. Here," tears down a small bounty notice "This guy is in the city. Track him down and dump him at the guardhouse. And return with the FULL reward. Your working your hide off to pay us back."

(Gaige) "Well, not everything..."
Withdraws a small pouch from within my coat and plops it on a table.
(Gaige) "We have just enough money for one last crate of rum."

(Carn) "Save it. I can't believe I'm saying this, but booze isn't a necessity. We may need to buy materials for repairs. And lets not forget, fuel ain't cheap. Besides, we have enough rum to last us the rest of the year, providing nobody orders any. Oh and I hate to do this, but we can't skim free drinks thanks to the monkey. Thankfully tax season is a long time away, but we need to make revenue quick." takes a look at the bounty board, pulling down a few, then goes to the back room and bangs on an old iron pan hanging by the door "Whelps! Fall in!" a half dozen guys in their late teens forms in a crude intimation of a line "I said, FALL IN!" they quickly straighten themselves "Now then, thanks to the pink monkey, we are broke. So, I'm sending you out to collect some small bounties. You know the drill, dump 'em at the guardhouse. But bring back the full reward. I'm implementing an emergency clause in your contracts. The company takes 60% of the pay, to sustain itself. You all get free boarding here anyways. Now move out!" the rookies each take a flier grumbling about the monkey costing them most of their cut, then head out. Carn goes back to the front room "There, should get at least one by days end."

(Isaac Spades)"I'll make you a deal sir." Talks to carn. "Lend me some of your men so i can find my man and ill split the reward money. Which is actually... 1,000,000 theyre offering for him dead or alive."
Looks at the other mug shot. "Hmm..this man was seen in the baronies two weeks ago.".....you stare at the face. Turns to the two remaining men standing (koali and gaige )and says. "Alright Gentleman. Who wants to go on a hunt."

(Carn) "Hold it." comes out from behind the bar "With that kind of payoff, I take a personal hand. Give me a minute to get my gear." going upstairs to his office/room for a few minutes, he comes down i full gear. A kevlar vest, with a half centimeter of tungsten plating on his upper chest and back. An old armadillo helmet and rare sand devil mask on his head. A thigh length flak jacket over that, and knee high iron toe combat boots. Along with with cestus gloves, the iron ridges on the back freshly sharpened. A sabre sits on his left hip, with a pistol further back, and his rifle and bayonet are slung over his left shoulder. A few grenades and a coil of rope are on his right hip, along with a combat knife. "Ready when you are. Gaige, your in charge until we get back. I know you won't spend us over the deep end."

(Spades)"alrighty then the first thing we need to do is find this man and give him a good ol sensless drubbing. "
The engineer walks up to the group.
He's dressed in a red shirt and a black vest with a black scarf. He wears a bowler hat and his face is pretty average But angry looking. He's young and looks a bit cocky too.
(Engineer) "So exactly what in the name of whiskey and fine women are we gonna do about this ship cap."his clothes still has steam on it from the engines and his face is a bit gritty.
(Spades)"well i dont know yet about the ship...but i do know what im gonna do with you. You stay here and guard the ship"
(Engineer) "OH CMON THIS IS BLOODY TORTURE. IVE BEEN ON THAT BOLLUCK FOR THE PAST WEEK. THIS IS A BUNCH OF SH-"
(Spades) "Tanner...thats a order..."
(Tanner)"...sigh aye aye cap...can i atleast get something to soothe me throat."
(Spades) "Yes.but be near the ship."
(Engineer) "fine fine.." walks up to a stool and says. "One whiskey on the rocks bartender!!"
(Spades) turns to carn "hes a bit new and young...he has a brilliant mind for engineering..just a bit..brash..now then...where is this fella" points at the mugshot of the guy.

(Carn) takes the photo "You said you didn't know what he looked like. Or is this your main suspect?"

(Spades) "no that's a guy associated to the man I'm looking for ....we find him we find the guy Im looking for."

(Carn) hands Spades back the photo "He have a record? If so I know a guy who owes me a favor. May be able to point us in the right direction."

(Spades)"Yes he's a known thief his specialty is breaking in and then setting fire to the property. Mostly it's been the noble's houses that he's been burning down. But now he's been changing it up a bit to burning down establishments of nobles without even stealing ."

(Carn) "I meant the guy in the mugshot."

"Yes that's who I was talking about. "

The Kirby takes his time to think while he pours the glass of whisky.
"This man... He wouldn't happen to be a certain Mr. Kirk, would he? I hear he and his posse are known arsonists. They call themselves... What was it? The Cookies, or something like that."
(Hehe)

Noticing the time Carn suggests the two of them wait until morning, because his contact doesn't work at this hour. So Spades and his crew manage to find a cheap inn to sleep in and Carn goes up to his room. However, not before he boots out Koali, telling him to find the bounty he gave him earlier. And reminding him, that its not the same bounty he is now after, its just some pickpocket the guards don't want to track down themselves, but they want him alive. Two of them whelps also come in, with the bounties they collected.
End Day 1

Start of day 2
Coming back downstairs in his gear, aside from his helmet and mask which are hooked on his belt. Going into their small galley he makes a pot of coffee and 2 eggs for himself, then goes to the front room to eat and wait for the others.

The Kirby somehow managed to find the pickpocket, but not before the thief was able to steal a small tin of biscuits from Koali's pocket.
Now, having captured the pickpocket (and, perhaps most importantly, retrieved the biscuits), Koali knocked on the Blasted Galleon's door.
(Koali): "Hey, I got the guy. Can I come in now? I'm hungry."

Gaige stumbles down the stairs holding a cup of coffee and cracks open the door.
(Gaige) "Gimme a biscuit or no deal."

(Carn) "If you've got the money, then come in. If not, go and catch him."

(Koali): "Where do I take him?"
-
(Carn) "..........." Carn drags his hand over his face "TO THE GUARDHOUSE, THAT'S WHERE YOU GET THE BOUNTY!"

spades wakes up from his sleep from all the yelling (still wearing your clothes and not pjs) and walks down to greet the gentlmen.
(Spades) "Good morning everyone. Carn do we have any leads on our arsonist?"
Tanner comes out of the goldfish.
(Tanner)"Bad morning captain.Among the engines being blown to hell it seems like our weapons were destroyed as well."
(Spades)"how in hell did our weapons get destroyed?"
(Tanner)"why dont you ask nallah the little demon rookie you brought on board"
(Spades)"..shes still a rookie...listen..dont worry about the weapons ill buy new ones."
(Tanner)"i told you cap i told you damnit...women on ship are bad omen...but oooh noo.."
(Spades) "Tanner please see what you can do with the engine and guard it. ill go talk with nallah. carn ill be right back...gotta deal with crew issues." spades walks toward the goldfish with tanner1

(Carn) calls after him "You don't bunk here for free unless your a Gear, got it?"

Gaige mopes back to the kitchen, looking for biscuits and finding none, before sighing and cracking a few eggs into a bowl, whipping them into a froth before heading to the icebox yet again and pulling out peppers, ham, and cheese, chopping them up and throwing them into the eggs, mixing it one more time before dumping it all into a pan.
(Gaige) "Koali decided to forget pertinent information again?"

(Carn) "I really don't want to have to hire a babysitter for when he's on a job."

(Gaige) "Send a whelp, they're barely paid as is."

(Carn) "Please, he'd shake 'em in less then five minutes tops."

By now munching heartily on his omelette, Gaige grunts.
(Gaige) "Glue."

Though he was a ditz, Koali genuinely wanted to help pay for the extra booze. Hence, he was able to get a surprisingly good price for the pickpocket.
(Koali): "Okay, I got the money!"

(Carn) pockets the cash "Good. Go take a shower, your starting to smell." slides him a small mug of coffee "But drink this first."

Koali gave the coffee a wary look. Why would Carn be giving him caffeine?
(Koali): "Why are you giving me coffee?"

(Carn) realizes the effects coffee would have on the already hyperactive creature, then quickly drains the mug himself "Thought that was tea."

Koali said nothing more, and went to take a quick (but thorough) shower.

(Gaige) "Welp, I'm off to collect some of the higher profile bounties. Be back in a jif, eh?"
Taking up his mechanic's goggles and horologist gray fedora, he strides out the door, to return sometime soon, hopefully with A heavy purse.

Koali couldn't help but snicker at Gaige's purse.

Hearing the snickers, Gaige marches back in, thumps Koali on the head with his mallet, and says,
(Gaige) "It's an expression, you flakking half wit."
Reaching into the seemingly infinite vastness of his jacket, he pulls out a large, sturdy leather drawstring pouch, labeled 'BOUNTIES'.
(Gaige) "I use these."
He promptly stuffs it back in, turns on his heel, and strides out.

spades comes back with a younger female crew mate. no more then pehaps six. the younger female crew member had blondish white hair and a angry and pouty look on her face with dirt and grime on it.she wore a long dress with a small leather jacket. she had a top hat on with goggles and had some leather boots...that were a bit big for her.
she stood behind spades as she seen the new people around her.
(nallah) "....."
(Spades) "its alright nallah theyre friendly"
(nallah) looks up at spades with a nuetral face she talks in a whisper. "im sorry...i didnt know those boxes were filled with boomey stuff."
(Spades) "its all right.."
(nallah)"is mr.tanner angry with me." her face contorts into a frown.
(Spades) "oh no mr. tanner just um...forgot his favourite wrench and is a bit grumpy...now why dont you sit on one of the sofas here and get comfortable."
(nallah) "....ok...." she walks to a sofa before seeing koali. "....pink..hehe..." she stares at koali
Spades and tanner walks up to carn.
(Spades) "we picked her up on the way here. she was in the chalodian region while we were hunting for our man..she was inside the rubble of a mobula....we tried to find some bodies in the mobula...but all there was was ash....she was the sole surviver. she doesnt wanna talk about it"
tanner lets out a sigh and says
(Tanner) "Besides being a little pain in the arse she has a uncanny aim. i cant believe she can shoot those guns without getting jolted back from the recoil."
(Spades) "Aye....anyway we need to start searching for the arsonist. where should we start carn?"

Understandably, Koali was a bit perplexed by everyone's use of present tense...
Oh? There seemed to be a new arrival named Nallah. Koali decided to go investigate to see what was up.
(Koali): "Hello? Your name's Nallah, right? I'm Koali."

The begins conversing on strategy, unfortunately, Spades took to long and it was after dusk when they were done. So they will have to wait for the morning.
End day 2

Start of Day 3
Carn comes back downstairs, once again ready, but now suspicious that this may in fact be a waste of time. However, he is ready nonetheless. Making himself a quick breakfast, he waits for Spades to come back from the small inn he and his crew are staying at down the street. Hopefully, with the money he owes him. Considering Spades crashed in an unused office room yesterday, and didn't pay for it.

Gaige walks back in and dumps five 'BOUNTY' marked bags on the table, making a loud 'CLUNK!' and small jingle.
(Gaige) "Last one was a slippery bastard, had to pop him in the leg. Guard wasn't happy about me firing in public, but they let it slide. Now do me a favour and get a whelp to make me coffee, I'm running on fumes and jerky."

(Carn) empties the bags into their cache "Nice work. There's a fresh pot already made." raises his mug "Albeit a half empty one."

Spades comes through the doors of the blasted galleon and talks to carn.
(Spades) "im well rested and I have my equipment ready." On his right side of his belt he had a swept rapier and on the left side he had a loaded dart gun."so who was this man who owes you... you were talking about him two days ago or so...is he trustworthy? "

(Carn) "He's a captain with the city guard. I saved his hide a few years ago. I was contracted to provide extra muscle in an operation. Long story short, I saved his life, and because he got the guy, it put his career on the fast track. He owes me, big time. And as he's a captain, he has access to criminal files, including known residences." gets up and straightens his jacket, but doesn't put on his headgear just yet "Come on then, it's a ten minute walk. Your crew can stay here for now. The girl looks like she could use some food, so I'll have one of the whelps whip her up something. Anything else and they will need to pay. Also, you took an office room last night. The only one's who stay here for free are Gears, and unless they are officers, they go to the barracks. So that will be 50 gold. Let's go." heads out the door, turning into the city, towards the district guardhouse.

Gaige takes out his empty flask and fills it with rum, placing it back on his hip and pouring himself a mug of coffee. Meandering back outside to Spade's Goldfish, he steps aboard and heads towards the main engine, striding across the crossbeams like they aren't there.
(Gaige) "What in the name of Hades did you do to this thing? It's like it was pounded by Artemii... And then hit by a Hwacha barrage... and a lochnagar Mercury round... and shredded by a Heavy Carronade... and a Light Carronade... And then burnt to a crisp. And all this while running off of pure Moonshine."

Spades and Carn head to the Guardhouse, and meet with Carn's contact. He tells them the last known address of the man they are looking for. Down by the old broken docks and run down warehouses. He also warns them to get back to the bar, as a sever dust-storm is coming in. Cathedral doesn't get many, but they are always bad when they do. The two hurry back, and hunker down in the bar with Spades' crew, and the rest of the Gears.
End of Day 3

Start of Day 4
Coming down the stairs, this time in an outfit more akin to an engineer, a trail of groggy whelps following him. "Boys, I want this place clear of dust, along with the surrounding area outside." Through the groans and complaints, the whelps get to work. "Hey now, this is much easier than cleaning up a galleon." Carn aids them, but mostly just where there is a large amount of dust, or where one of the whelps is having trouble.

(Spades)"that was one hell of a dustorm."
(Tanner) "aye.we should get going and find our man."

(Carn) goes and quickly changes into his gear, though this time with a long and deep hooded sand cloak on "Best not to appear visibly armed and armored where we are going. That paints you as a target." tosses Spades a more beaten looking cloak "They'll asume we are armed, but won't know for sure what we have. And any sign of body armor is best concealed as well. Let me do the talking."

(Koali): "What'll I wear? Just the usual, or something else?"

(Carn) hands Koali cleaning tools "You help the whelps clean. Your barely out of being a whelp yourself. We all have our strengths. But this will require a modicum of self control. Not one of your greatest abilities. Gaige is in charge until I return. If you don't want to clean, go and do a quick bounty."

Spades looks at nallah and says. "Be good now nallah we'll be gone for a bit.".Spades waves bye as He walks out with carn.
(Nallah)looks at koali. "I c-can help clean. "Gets the cleaning supplys and starts helping.

The pair walk down to the what was once the old docks, now the underbelly of Cathedral. They stop in front of a dingy looking, half buried old bar. Long abandoned, the sign so rusted, the name is unreadable.
(Carn) "Nobody remembers the name of the place. Commonly called The Rust Heap. Intel says the guy we're looking for is a frequent gambler here. This isn't a legal bar mind you, but the guard can never keep them out. It's your typical crook bar, just under no circumstances order anything here accept the whiskey. And only do that if your feeling healthy and adventurous for about half a week. Let me do the talking, I've got a mercenary reputation, for the ones who know me."
The two walk in, the murk of the room taking a moment for their eyes to get used to.
(Carn) "There in the corner, no don't turn your head. He's here. Even in this dump, nobody likes him. Apparently he's a suspected cheat, but nobody has been able to prove it. You any good at poker?"

(Spades) "decent...I play a good game of chess though.

(Carn) "Well that's to bad. Your going to play him at poker. He doesn't play anything else. You don't have to win, but if you can prove he cheated.......or if you can't and he beats you sorely, then the other patrons are inclined to be more sympathetic when we talk him up. I'll supply the drinks, and try to keep him talking. You try and spot his cheat."

(Spades)"aye ill keep him talking.... just to be safe." Loads his miniature dart gun with sleep darts. "Now then. Ill start up a conversation with this bastard. "
Spades walks to a poker table and sits in front of the man. The man gives him a ugly glare and starts shuffling and cutting the cards. On spades right and left were two thugs...... they glared at him also.Spades whispered to himself. "Why the bloody hell do i have to play again?"

(Tanner) talks to shaded."do you guys get these sandstorms often?"
(Nallah) swipes patheticly at the dust and whistles.

(Gaige) "Ehh, often enough. Nothing too hard to deal with. Now, what in hades did your captain do to his engines?"

(Carn) Goes over and orders 2 whiskeys and brings them over to Spades and the guy. Slipping into an accent reminiscent of the Mercantile Guild, he says "Our ship just got into port a few hours ago. My friend here is a good cards player, you care to match him?"
(??) grunts "Why not you?"
(Carn) sighing he replies "I've never been very lucky with cards I'm afraid. Women yes, cards no."
(??) chuckles "Fair enough friend, the name is Gregor, most just call me Ace though." plucks an ace of spades from his hat "If you have the coin then by all means."
(Carn) slides Ace the mug, then plunks a small bag of coin onto the table "First round is on me."
(Ace) eyes the bag, then grabs the mug and takes a swig "All right then. Lets play." begins shuffling out and dealing the cards

Koali swept the dust with Nallah's help. He took the time to remember the days before The Nerf, when he could do just about anything.

Suddenly Spacetime ripples and sends a hammer flying out of nowhere to smack Koali in the face, erasing such errounous and 4th wall breaking memories such as life before The Nerf(tm).

(OPs note: the previous two posts are non cannon. Attempts to break cannon, and the 4th wall, will result in termination of your character)

Spades sadly loses a large amount of gold to Ace, though they both drank a fair amount. Eventually Spades literally keeled over, due to the suspicious whiskey, which resulted in Carn having to carry him back to the bar, over his shoulder. However, they did get Ace drunk enough to spill valuable information on their true prey. A name, and a rough description. Having lugged Spades back to the bar, he dumps him into an unused bottom bunk in the barracks. Seeing Tanner, he tells him "Your captain is going to have the worst hangover he's ever had. You may want to keep an eye on him. Holler if you need me to call a doc."
End Day 4

Start of Day 4
Coming out of his room, and seeing Spades till unconscious, Carn goes down and prepares a large pot of coffee, and some eggs for himself. He also gather ingredients to make a quick hangover remedy if needed.

spades didnt drink the whiskey but instead carn got to sleepy and fell asleep cause they put drugs in his drink. seems like the bartender was in the group also with ace. spades won a couple games of poker then when the man went outside for a quick breather spades shot him with his dart gun and lugged him back to the goldfish along with carn. he then laid carn on a sofa and ace he tied in a chair in a basement....start of day 4 spades comes out of the room seeing carn unconscious and makes some coffee. carn starts to wake up. "morning dear. got some coffee for you. also we have a extra guest down at the basement"

spades didnt drink the whiskey but instead carn got to sleepy and fell asleep cause they put drugs in his drink. seems like the bartender was in the group also with ace. spades won a couple games of poker then when the man went outside for a quick breather spades shot him with his dart gun and lugged him back to the goldfish along with carn. he then laid carn on a sofa and ace he tied in a chair in a basement....start of day 4 spades comes out of the room seeing carn unconscious and makes some coffee. carn starts to wake up. "morning dear. got some coffee for you. also we have a extra guest down at the basement"

(I just don't want people trying to rewrite to scene I've set. Saying that my drink was spiked? After I had already opened the day? I do not appreciate people trying to undo what I have done. If people want more control over the flow of the story, then they need to post more. And if things do get out of hand, I will have the thread locked.)
