So, it appears that I am becoming quite a philosopher but, As a Keyboardist and Bard, I am curious:
What soft of Music would each faction (Yesha Empire, Arashi League, Mercantile Guild, Order of Chaladon, Anglean Republic and Fjord Baronies) listen to?
Also, what instruments - if any, would they use?
-
I am of the opinion that the Anglean Republic are big fans of Viking Metal such as Vulgaris Magistralis:

In fact I used to blast that song in lobby when ever my galleon (of the same name) just won a game.
Since the Angeleans have access to pre cataclysm tech it would make sense for them to have electric guitars and speakers. Or maybe I am trying too hard to justify my love of Metal and Ancient Scandinavian culture within this game.
-
If Angleans are doing heavy metal, all the more reason why I'd join them
-
I really want Viking Metal to be part of the game world.

I'm hoping the Baronies get some Lord of the Rings type music.
-
I dont know what Viking Metal is but I really need to listen to it :D
-
I'm hearing a little bit of Ayreon in this song. I like it!
-
I believe the Arashi League would have more of an Arabic/Indian influence like the Ura from Bastion, who had these two songs to represent them:

This sounds really good :D

As much as i appreciate Metal, the Angleans ain't listening to such stuff.
They are listening dark, celtic folklore :P
-
I think Tink has a point, infact I imagine most the music in the world will be similar to traditional music over modern music.
Abgleans Celtic folk music, or Morris dancing tunes... 8)
-
Angleans aren't celtic though. More scandinavian. Perhaps more LoTR type music?
-
Its nice to see this thread is still active :)
I am loving all the inputs on this thread. thank you everyone! :D
-
Well, I did once hear a song described as "Celtic metal", does this fit either description?

(mobile links are iffy, click at your own risk. The song is sirona by miracle of sound if the link doesn't work)
-
Are we talking about the faction itself (general populace and such) or just the madmen aboard the ships? :D
I really can't imagine a whole civ listening to some kind of "extreme" for centuries. They still got feelings right? :D
-
Love that song, the guy is amazingly talented.

As electric guitars and speakers did not exist at the time of the First World War, we can assume that they do not exist in the world of Guns Of Icarus, personally, I believe that:
-The Yeshans would listen to, if anything, propaganda music. Music telling the citizens of the Yesha Empire to work, work and work until their hands and bloody and their spirits broken. This would sound similar to the music played in North Korea in the real world.
-The Arashi would listen to tribal music, or, as Riggatto said, Middle Eastern music.
-The Merchants would listen to a mixture of the other factions, trading with them not only their possessions, but also musical ideology.
-The Chaladonians would listen to sort of ancient Chinese music, possibly pipes, etc.
-The Angleans would listen to turn of the last century music, classical, and perhaps would be in possession of the few working gramophones, able to listen to pre war music.
-The Baronies would listen to Celtic music, similar to the Nords of Skyrim, their songs would be rich with tales of previous victories.
-
Actually, Yesha is more likely to play Chinese style music, though I do agree it would be work music. Chaladon is based on colonial India, not China.
-
Ah, alright, I assumed that it was the other way around.
-
Brilliant ideology though George, nice input :D
-
Hey, if I can be an Anglean who plays Flight of the Valkyries, while he raids, I'm perfectly fine with that!
"I love the smell of kerosene in the morning."
-
Haha, thanks Mann.
-
If anyone is interested, I have a playlist of what I think the Merchants and maybe some other factions would listen to, I'll post the link tomorrow.

Here is the link, be careful, some songs contain adult language. Also, I know some songs do contain electric guitar, I added those to beef up the playlist, discount those.

In a society where military loyalty, service, and duty is expected, if not mandatory, I don't think the Baronies would have time to listen to much other than marching band music. Drums, horns, shouts from the sergeant, etcetera.
