I did that today, and Keon jokingly asked "When is boarding coming?" to which I said "Tomorrow". All the noobs took me seriously and got really excited XD

I have that happen a lot myself. We take it for granted, because we know where it is, but they obviously don't. Frustrating yes, but not their fault. :)

The wrong rotary.
The wrong rotary will still let you turn where you want by going in reverse. It won't be as fast as fixing the correct engine, but just turning NOW is often better than waiting an extra second for the engineer to reach the right engine to turn a bit better.

I have watched a few lets plays and find the newbie mistakes they make cringe worthy. The best lets play I have found is this one:

They still make a few newbie mistakes, but for the most part they are a tight effective crew.

As a side note, lesmok flare is deadly and surprisingly accurate at fairly long range.

It's just conjecture right now, and it might be coincidence. Birds seem to follow ships, much like dolphins in water. If this is true, seeing birds flying in circles could mean a ship is approaching. I need to test more though.

About a week now- and I'm going to stick with ol' birthday cake. Everyone needs a slice of the celebration~ With the buffed ignition chance, three will completely disable a ship like a flamethrower does- except at a safe distance, and with with explosive damage that can kill once the hull armor goes down.
Not to mention that its extremely horrifying to be on the enemy ship with all of the whistling, confetti, and 6+ stacks of fire on every component.

When you come back from a 4-0 deficit in 3v3 after 1 ally disconnects. Your surviving ally keeps meat grinding till they give up and leave. Your Pyra is riddled with more holes than you can count and has literally 1% hull left as you try to use the mostly AI ships as bait. Competent people join midmatch, take up the lost ships. Then you go on and survive till the end on that 1%. Getting the majority of the kills, dodging multiple rams after engines being disabled twice. Then in the end the score reads 7-4.

I've been firing mercs a lot recently. Any tips for the front guns of a pyra?
Wait until they're in Gatling range, or just before they reach it, since that'll cancel out any buffs and force them to rebuild when they'd usually be gunning. In terms of aiming... It's a bit tough, since those things have silly hit boxes. Don't go for the top bit of the gun; you'll likely miss. Aiming for around the centre is usually a good bet. Also, remember burst rounds, of course. That minimizes the chance of the hit box screwing you over.

Also, Zill, the $25 at 11 years is nothing new. Mobility pilots (transport and refuelers) have had that for a while. With sequestration, the money and flying hours to keep manning for fighter pilots at those previous levels just isn't there anymore. The point nosers here are barely allowed to even fly their airframes because they fly do infrequently.

I can't remember if it was in practice for the Spire tournament, or during the tournament.
We had just gotten a kill on an enemy flak spire, when suddenly we got nailed by something from the direction of the dead spire and exploded.
We were kind of surprised for a moment, then we realised it was a flak shot. From the dead spire?
It was a flak shot that was already in the air when we got our kill, and our fate was inescapable.

Having a gunner isn't perfectly optimal, but at that level, I'd rather just be open and let my crew do what they're comfortable with.

Yeah, about 99% sure velcro happens when the hitboxes of your ship overlaps with terrain (the 'velcro' effect is when the collision resolution struggles to figure out which way the ship should be pushed when hitboxes overlap, since it's a non-trivial problem to solve). Sometimes the hitbox of the terrain overlaps with your ship so much that it affects the crew onboard.

Haven't double checked them, because I'm about to get something to eat, so call me out if I got anything wrong.
So, using public forum statistics and registration dates, I've found the following:
I've got 12,305 minutes in 105 days, or about 117 minutes per day,
Sunderland, you've got 53530 minutes in about 220 days, or 243 minutes per day.
That's just over 4 hours a day on the GoI forum.
And I thought my nearly 2 hours a day was bad.

BS! The minimap has visual differences with ally and enemy ships other than colour. also in 2v2s you might get lucky enough to not have the same ships on the opposite team, so that is a very faulty test.
I have a slight colour deficiency, which got me into a lot of trouble before this new minimap. they could make it a BIT MORE obvious though.

That moment when I join a match that has already started as engie, in a ship with one human capt and all AI crew. The second I join, the captain leaves the match so I take the helm and realize we're in a squid and I've never piloted one. So I go to the nearest enemy and set the AI to attack, and then back to default because we're taking damage and I can't think straight so I decide to (hear this) ram the enemy ship. With a squid. At the lowest throttle. I was already touching them when I decided to go full speed.
That moment when I actually killed them with that ram. I almost cried. Then another captain got in the ship and I just gave him the helm and stayed as gungineer. We won that match [*happy face*]

This happened to me the other day flying a spire. Galleon appears out of cloud speeding forward, suddenly ship with full health and armor is in smithereens. Ouch.

When you see it arcing arcing arcing and the enemy is strafing away and it lands right at the tip of the engines and you see their splinters spew out at max speed...even moonshine won't save you now.
When your flak fires first but then you hear the mercury fire...and the merc shots lands JUST before your flak. Spire from full to dead in 0.1 seconds.
And just as satisfying but not as hard to do ... when you patiently wait for the exact moment to ram a lochnagar into their hull at point blank range.
When you hear your captain incredulously question whether you just killed them blind through a dust storm at 1.5k.
I am still not very good at the heavy flak, but it is by far my favorite gun in the game. Unlike even a lumberjack, your shots are slower than a moonshining squid, every shot is 5+ seconds of holding your breath, only 2 attempts per clip, lesmok is for sissies...and that giant red cross, my god that giant red cross vindicating you.
And it's a gun that is completely useless without crew teamwork...the epitome of the guns of icarus ideal!
I think hit crosses should scale linearly with damage. Lochnagar flak should fill the entire screen so the entire world knows how much you destroyed them =D

While level =/= skill, it's morel likely for the much higher level to win, as they have at least a little experience.

When the enemy decides to totally ignore your ally and you need to play super defensively by dodging all Hwachas and using little hard cover to maximum effect he gets even harsher in language and says how you are abusing the Squid and asks you if he can take over... Also laughing at your advice to other low level captain how to approach best. (Fun fact I have that person blocked for bad behavior on my main acc since a long time.)
Luckily when playing on alt account I always meet super nice and actually really good new players and this was fortunately the first really bad encounter with a veteran. Also I really wish I had recorded that match, the commentary was priceless.

Funnily enough, I've experienced almost exactly the same thing, except the high level joined as gunner on a squid, and then refused to shoot the balloon with the carronade because, even though we were rarely in gun arcs, he found the risk of being shot too scary with a, and I quote... "level 17 retard who shouldn't be using squid cos squid should only be used by good pilots with a match count of a few thousand."
I didn't block him, but I sure as hell made sure to troll him by following his every lobby for the rest of the night, and got myself onto pilot slot against every match, so many people were understanding and willing to give up their pilot slot for the cause of revenge, he quit with harsh words and reported me.. XD

I met a level 32 engineer who didn't know to hit pyra engine from below... He was not a bad engineer but nearly all.his experience was Goldfish and on any other ship he got lost.. When I flew with him second round on a fish, he was incredible.
So, that moment you see a specialist perform their speciality.

Oh I've had some fun along these lines. We had a level 45 gunner join our ship who insisted that he didn't 'need' heavy clip for the carro back when the meta blenderfish used it to snipe out balloons at range. They were insulted that I felt they 'needed' it, because you know, super MLG leet 720 no scope skills mean you can defy entropy and the random number generator. Of course they couldn't hit anything with it, kept trying to shoot out engines for no adequately explained reason and then were shocked when the enemy fish (which I think was a Ryder ship pilotted by Lue here) kicked the ever loving crap out of us. You'll never guess whose fault he thought it wasn't.

There are a certain amount of members in the community who are, absolute arseholes.. Fortunately they're limited in numbers, but when you meet them, they're a plague to be around, worse than backseat drivers.
On the subject of backseat drivers...
That moment the gunner who was shouting at you for not listening to his backseat driving, where he screamed and cried that you were not putting his guns in arc (because you were avoiding enemy arcs) joins the enemy team as a pilot, and you have a mine launcher able crew member on your ship.

Maybe is my lack of experience, but I find leaving a full side useless in combat (thats 33% of your guns) for a flare gun is totally pointless

I always have a flare on the left side of fish. If you have a choice of which side to use in combat it should always be the right side gun. A flare is an invaluable asset to your team and can be used to put fire stacks on the enemy (15 per shot). Failing the chem cycle on your balloon and getting a 15 stack will make your vertical movement impotent. With heavy clip and good aim it can be used to snipe out guns and engines.
In combat using the left side is only for necessity because the right side is more efficient. Having a flare on your team is a big advantage that lets you see where the enemy is or isn't, and lets you effectively snipe ships behind clouds.

Watch some competitive streams and watch Blenderfish.
Another good point to note: The right side gun on a fish is further forward than the left side, and a Carronade-flamer/banshee can effectively shoot both guns at the same time.

Actually, flare is the only fire weapon that is countered by Extinguisher, especially post buff. Should you miss a chem at all most components tend to go down before you can fully take off all the 15 stacks.
