They fight.
IRL, Sperm Whales and Giant Squids regularly fight to the death, but most of the time the Whale wins.
So, in a way, the Sky Kraken is the mini-boss to the Sky Whale's Final Boss.

Has Skywhale Co-op boss been confirmed? I can never make it to fireside chats.

I don't remember a boss being mentioned at the last fireside I went to. I did however ask if there were any unfound easter eggs, to which all the devs replied "yes, sky whales". So get hunting people. You probably have to super enhance a smudge on a piece of rubble in paritan or something like that.

Now that I think about it, this can contribute to the lore. It would explain why squids with flamers are so popular. The default build was originally modeled on the giant fire breathing krakens of the old days.

I am assuming it is something like jellyfish tentacles combined with eel electric charge and angler fish phosphorescence to mimic city lights and lure in the kraken.

How cool would it be to have dynamic levels, with these monsters in them. The monsters move around, and you have to avoid them while still killing the enemy. Or just a boss mode where these are the enemy.

Unless someone else can match this, I am not sure they should post the same type of art. Just like real life, I can understand there being different art styles, but a photograph is a photograph. As far as lore goes (and I do hope these turn into lore) these are the not-so-blurry photographs of the urban legends. They should either turn out like this, or be a blurry equivalent. If it seems like I am trying to discourage others, I apologize, I am most definitely not. Just saying some things that people should take into consideration, imo. You can ignore me if you want.

Initially I thought monsters were ridiculous, but looking at all those pictures gave me a 'Monster Hunter x GOIO' impression. Sounds fun but I'm not sure how it would fit in the world of GOI.

Well, plenty of unexplored lands are left after the war, its perhaps somewhat possible for the radiation to have caused a few lifeforms like whales.
Or lets just let them stay as a myth :(
