Well, this thread was going to go to pit anyways...It's incredibly hard to believe that someone on the internet has not heard the term before, international or not, but 'tis while I posted the definition.

You are a liar and/or you don't seem to understand (willingly? should I also say that you are being intentionally stupid?) what is happening around you. Sure, in many threads there were hyperboles but also reasonable arguments, even by the same people. I understand that you may have a different opinion on the subject but there is no point in arguing someone that is lying or not willing to even aknowledge existence of contrarguments to your thesis.
I also think it's worth noticing that experiences with the matchmaker may differ depending on how you use it - whether you matchmake alone or in whole ship or even 2-3 ships. I think that part of an argument may be caused by this, some people try to matchmake alone (and they have a bad experience) and some matchmake with whole ship or two, usually with high-lvl friends (and they may have good experience).
Also, given that some other changes that matchmaker were implemented in the same time - should they be considered in this argument? For instance timer? That's debatable, I think.
If we're talking about arguments for server browser:See, this is the rose colored glasses I'm talking about.
It gave player freedom of choice. We used to choose lobby (on various basis) and after quick glance on situation decide whether we want to stay or try in other one. That action of choosing, checking and deciding would take around 30-40 seconds (all levels have been visible). Time of game start would differ depending on lobby and player slots left - but if you were just hurry to play with anyone you could hop into the lobby with 1-2 free slots and start within minute or two. Also it was easier to manage and balance a lobby back then and after few matches usually more-or-less balanced lobby would emerge and people could stay in it (no 3 rematch limit). Players have been using this system succesfully for a long time (in my opinion there was very little wrong with lobbies and server list, only small amount of players) and it was taken away from them, replaced not offering much in exchange. Since there is very few people in the queue matchmaker isn't able to create good lobbies, especially when you consider that veterans do everything to fly together (because having a noob on your ship is a pain in the ass). So for many players matchmaker neither gets them faster in a lobby nor makes lobbies better. Also when you wait in a lobby you can socialize with other people, but when you wait in a crew form it's just boring, so for many people the same amount of waiting became more bothersome. Before matchmaker you could also just go into the already started game and if it has free slots - join and if not just wait until match ends (because often after match ends few people leave the lobby, so there will be a spot for you). Now it's mostly impossible. And no, the "but you can still do that, just add everyone to your friend list" is not a contrargument. So this is as reasonable as I can get, I hope you'll be satisfied.

As for the MM stuff... I think its fine.. Its not prefect sure.. People forget how bad the old match list was.. I don't think MM is prefect.. But it does a good enough job when it can... and when it can't then it's no worse then the match list was.. I don't really get what people expect it to do..
I feel bad for derailing this thread, however I do have a recent and strong example of a MM failure. This past saturday, I was queued with my entire Brotherhood competitive team for our weekend practice. We had been in queue for about 15 minutes, and everyone was getting frustrated. So out of curiosity, I looked over all the people in my friends list. I saw some ducks 'waiting', some ryders 'waiting', and a few others from big clans. I had a feeling they were also sitting there waiting. So instead of waiting any longer for MM to do something, I went and checked out Sammy BT's lobby. Sure enough there was an entire duck team there in an empty lobby waiting. So I called my team over and we had a really fun, and challenging game. So why if we were waiting in queue, and they had an open lobby would it not automatically put us together? The only reason I can forsee is that it wants to create mixed MMR team lobbies, and because we weren't mixed, and they weren't mixed, it couldn't put two and two together. And if that wasn't the reason I don't know what was. But either way, that is a terribly flawed system that punishes high mmr rated teams and skilled veterans. And it's really ignorant to blame us. This is a team based game that has, and should still continue playing with friends or making friends. To then blame us for wanting to play together as the reason MM won't work is counter productive to the whole premise of the game.

What actually used to happen is that you'd join a lobby, then wait several minutes, after which your pilot would leave, then a new one would join, then they'd ready up, and then unready, then ready up, then someone on your team goes afk so they unready, then they change ships so the other side changes loadouts, so they both unready to change again, then half would ready, then an opposing captain would leave, then a new one would join, and by now like 3 people in the lobby would be yelling READY UP repeatedly, and you get my point.
While I do miss the ability to join specific lobbies, what I wrote was far more often the case than some magical world where games would start promptly and civilized.
Look, there's a reason Muse identified the issue of games taking too long to start as the biggest problem that needed to be addressed, and, in general, matchmaking has made that much better.

Uhmmm.. I actually see mid game teaching a lot, if not constantly, from gun mechanics to repair strategies. I have seen at least a dozen 45ish players training new players in the middle of combat on the most basic things. Sometimes with a certain brisk tone, sometimes with unnerving calmness.

I told him if he didn't, he would not get to shoot a single enemy. Any time he would hop on a gun, I would hit claw and sing "No arcs for you!". We did win, though. Most butt rams I ever did with a Junker. ;D

It wasn't the dude's suggestions that were upsetting. I like suggestions, tips, tricks and as much help as possible from the vets! :D. Its just when a vet (or I am sure some of you vets could agree: some crew member) is trying to take the "helm" from you as the captain and disregards what you are saying or asking completely. You know what I mean? Back seat driver sort of annoyance. :/

Keep in mind there is an asymmetry here. I had two bad experiences total with vet crew in my early days. Both were problems with communication. I have enough stories of novice pilots not listening to fill the Vatican Secret Archives, most of them are pilots who are told X is bad, X is easily avoidable, and they do X again, repeatedly. Usually I'm nice but sometimes I make my point more grumpily. Like the guy who was told ramming was a bad idea in a metamidion and went on to do it five more times getting us killed on four out of the five occasions. Or the guy who wouldn't turn impact bumpers off and couldn't understand why his ship couldn't bring guns to bear even after I explained it, three times. Or the guy who set up an ambush, on our enemies spawn, when both enemy ships were in the middle of the canyons over a kilometre away killing our ally, and I informed them politely for the second time, and so they rage quit. Or the guy who brought double flak pyra in spite of me telling them over and over that it is a weak build. Or the guy who wouldn't turn off hydrogen. And on, and on, and on. None of these things are difficult to avoid (the instruction 'press the one key and the balloon will stop taking damage' is about as simple as it gets). Making these mistakes once is fair enough, folks gotta learn, but so many players think they know better than the person with hundreds or thousands of games under their belt. And way to many people pilot without sufficient experience.
Vets who bash novices and back seat drive suck, but considering the crap we have to deal with this is, on the whole, an exceptionally tolerant community. Sounds like you had a crappy experience Major-Malice, and I'm sorry to hear about that. But keep in mind when you get terse comments from experienced pilots that they have virtually no means of controlling who they get paired with (there is no kick function), match maker frequently (perhaps more frequently) pairs them with very derpy folks, and you are the third person today who they have had to politely inform that hwacha galleons with mortars in the light guns aren't the best idea ever. Oh and the last two didn't change their guns even though they were given a careful explanation of the damage mechanics. Oh and one of them said they would, but changed their mind because Lion gun OP shut up 720 noscope pro mlg swag. Then they spent the next 15 minutes blaming said vet because without piercing damage said galleon couldn't get a kill. Also they kept ramming. The mountain. With moonshine. In reverse. And then they ate a puppy.
Lets no go equating "gay" with stupid and poor performing newbies. It is in insult to gay people.

well basically technical vets (hi lvls) that are not up to my standard of what a vet is (like the 5 major competitive clans of olde-who those clans were? compete for it)
Basically I don't like adding "vets" that don't play at least the quality of old lvl 10. With me at old lvl 10 as my point of reference (technically I'm old lvl 13 now).
I mean I can rely on rowho to do his job correctly. I never have to check his work. And in turn he knows I'll give him the win he wants because he trusts in my skills and tactical ability.
Those kinda ppl are what I consider friends in the game sense.
Heres another case study for you.
Me and rowho and Rinn were on the first dev match. We were crew to one of these supposed vets. lvl wise everyone's averages tallied up to us having a technical advantage with more supposedly skilful pilots and crew.
This "vet" let 4 ships escape. And for each kill we died, because of idiotic positioning (killing that one retreating ship into the arcs of two enemy teammates was so smart... we all saw it coming except this "vet"), arcs were constantly wonky as lower lvled pilots outsmarted this "vet."
Next time. This "vet" was on an opposing team. I was the pilot. Rowho was glad of it. He knew I could turn this around.
Match ended 7-1 with a muse ship dying on our end. If I didnt pilot on that session. Rowho wouldn't have gotten the dev match win he wanted.

Well you can be a vet player in experience but be so-so overall. In actuality there are two kinds of veteran players. Those who have knowledge and experience but never apply it further. Then those who have both but strive to become better. That marks the split off into competitive players.
The difference between a veteran and a competitive player is simple. The veteran player accepts when odds are impossible and looks to the next respawn. The competitive player refuses to give up till the end. They'll fight, claw, and do whatever it takes to turn the tables. Even for small gains, they'll press hard. One of the first lessons I teach new players when they ask how they can get better in piloting is: fly like your ship matters. Consider it's life more important than anything else. Only then can you be an asset to someone else. If your ally can't do the same, if they are too enemy focused, they'll just die over and over and over again. Know your own limits before you know the limits of your foes.

Spanner Mallet Buff is a triple engineer gunners load out.
Faster rebuilds and able to buff own gun, I also allows for more efficient crew rotations on ships such as the Pyra in certain pyra builds.

When you spawn, either your wrench buff (balloon) or gungi buffs the bottom deck while the other buffs top deck. Starting off with buffed engines and hull is a great advantage.
Spanner mallet buff maximizes damage at any range. Buffed regular does higher dps than greased.
The spanner mallet buff helps rebuild balloon and mallets when necessary. Both buff engis work together to buff balloon when it's rebuilt. In a tanking situation the gungi goes bottom deck with the most efficient repair combo plus buffs. There's no stepping on toes, it's always the most efficient.

my end game achieves are pretty much mostly cp.
playing cks to grind point captures.
I have ceased to care about winning...but goddamn... allies are so dumb... I have to carry every time.
tho cp point are the easy ones as i can pilot and define the tactics.
but getting cp kills as gunner? freakin impossible. you not only get morons too dumb to play in a death match to get said kills, but they're too dumb to even get on point to get enough time to even get a hull break.
Plus ye... old ck use to be my FAVOURITE game mode. with the new cp rules though... it sucks.

That keyboard makes perfect sense, because if these pilots accidentally press something else then the actualy R key, there is a slight chance they will still hit the R key.
Although, flying backwards needs to be unlocked for it to really make sense.

I brought a squid to at least one of the SCSs with the Starbards, probably more than that. Cant remember which one but it was my worst game ever. Double carro as I recall. Ram suicided at one point and just generally flew like an idiot. If you are looking for a squid not being pilotted like a moron then Fynx has brought it plenty of times with the Ryders.

On the other hand there's a similar method I thought about before, one that is clearly an abuse of the system.
Traders, being at a disadvantage (because of a team stack) can put the cargo on the squid that never gets into combat.
They lose 7-0, but with cargo intact and that's quite a lot of points for the team that never stood a chance of winning.
Sometimes it's rather obvious which team is at a disadvantage...
I didn't do that, even though it was really tempting at some point.
