Title: Ship size chart WIP
Post by: Richard LeMoon on February 08, 2015, 03:53:01 pm
I am making a ship silhouette size comparison. I have the ship side silhouettes edited to close to size (may be a little off), and just need to clean them up some. I'll post all ship silhouettes individually as well so others can use them.

The Junker is smaller than I imagined. And the spire is much bigger than I imagined given how fragile it is.

It just further emphasizes that the Goldfish is the PRETTIEST airship though.

The Spire is huge! That's why many people pick Hades when they see a Spire. :)

And yes Goldfish is very pretty!  8)

Shouldn't a larger balloon to body ratio mean more control over your altitude? No scientist, just a thought.

I think because the Junker is a salvage ship, this is why it's altitude is not as easily controlled, using poor/heavy/damaged materials. :)

I always pictured the goldfish and pyra the other way around in terms of size, and the junker much bigger

Bumping this thread back up to help other ship-builders in their work. ;) The size comparison is much clearer than on the official site, but also includes the Mobula. Thanks to Carn for directing me to this thread.

This exactly was my problem too, which resulted in some minor miscommunication. It's interesting how some ships seem to be so different in game.

Richard, could I request you do this from the front profile as well?
It would help show the difference in ship width:)

See! That's all I was trying to help with!

For scale reference the junker is 40m long give or take a meter or two.

How did you determine that?

From the 60m blast radius of a mine - 20m trigger distance sometimes hiting the engines, sometimes not depending on the exact angle. Extirminator also had some apparently no longer available information putting the distance from turning engine to front gun at 36m which when you add the last bits of balloon is about 40m too.

edit: i wonder if flying the ships really close together and then using rangefinder would work at all?

Really neat!

Huh the Goldfish is actually quite large... doesn't feel like it from the helm

I do have some images from top and front that I need to convert. Just have not been able to get at them.

i thought you used the range finder in practice mode to screenshot each ship at the exact same distance from the point of observation. The mine radius is quite interesting!

Updated using actual ship models instead of guesstimates from screenshots. Image had to be massive to capture the chiseled features of the manly man.

Updated the image to an exact 20 pixel per meter image. It is a bit smaller, so the manly man is not as chiseled, but it is something we will have to live with.

These are great! Now we just need to use these in the killfeed instead of the long sentences.

Thanks. I have requests to make ship spotlight images with topdowns as well. I will get to that sometime.
