Title: Dev App 1.3.9 (433)
Post by: Watchmaker on December 15, 2014, 12:27:13 pm
We're now beginning testing for the 1.3.9 patch.  This release mostly contains bugfixes, but there are a few little features to hopefully make some lives easier.

FEATURES
- Map grid lines now show at fixed 1km intervals
- Ship names now included in destruction log
- Added a small delay before transitioning to the match end sequence to allow viewing the final kill, capture, etc.
- Spectators are now marked on their own map
- Skill descriptions now draw directly from configuration (so they can't get out of sync with the actual effects.)
- Restored exclusive fullscreen mode as windowed fullscreen caused performance problems on many setups.  If you still want windowed fullscreen, you can use the "-popupwindow" launch option.

BUGFIXES
- Animation for switching tools no longer delayed in 3rd person
- Fixed some cases where characters could get stuck on ship geometry
- Fixed broken highlighting in voice selector UI
- Dyes can no longer be applied to hairstyles (formerly consumed the item but had no effect)
- Made gatling gun impact sounds more noticeable
- Player context menu now closes on UI transitions
- Chat box can no longer be opened underneath social dropdown
- Debug overlay no longer shows wildly incorrect framerate when first enabled
- Player facing no longer resets when exiting Spyglass/Rangefinder zoom modes
- Options menu: resolution now reverts if you decline to apply the changes
- Removed questionable parsing of special whitespace characters ("/t" for a tab) in chat
- Fixed a rare bug that could cause multiple copies of a ship to spawn when respawning

That one always confused me.

Any news about badges for Hephaestus Challenge, RnD and Aerodrome?
I heard at some point that you were considering allowing us to submit our own designs?

This is really nice.
Loving the descriptions they are cleaner and easier to understand.

-There is a small bug where the description gets in the way of elements behind it. So when i hover over a gun the description shows up. When i want to hover over the gun next to it, i cant cause the description is standing in the way.

Dont know if you intentionaly added so that the helm view is the same as a gun view where you dont rotate with the ship.

I personaly like this as it gives a different awareness of the ship. But oh my god it can get barfy. Its just soo different from what im used to. The view kinda warps because of the field of view.
But i actualy like it, however there is an annoyance of having to keep tracking. Dont know.... anycase. Need see the other things that i cannot do alone.

You have no idea how much this can change things, but then again i need someone to shoot me with a gattling.

-Just tested, and i love it. Finaly, you can identify gattling fire.
Still not sure off multiple gattling fires.
But the sound is sort of weird though. I cant put my finger on an exact explenation how it would be better but currently it does sound weird but i dun care its good enough for me just having gattling making a sound.

Any chance you muse folk could add this as a toggle in the options? I'd also like to have the opposite, (and have asked for it in the past) where gun view is locked to the ship like current helm controls.

About the map scales, they are now less useful on smaller maps like duel at dawn, imho it would be better if you kept the old scale but just made a note of it on the map like this:

Why don't you just make dye-able hair a feature? (like everyone has been asking for)

1) Badges - I couldn't say (just not something I'm involved with), you'd have to ask Keyvias
2) Helm camera behavior sounds like a bug, I'll investigate
3) Dyeable hair has been vetoed by the art team when we've discussed it

One warning - wind physics are seriously screwy in the current build, it's a known bug that I'm working on right now.

Good, personally I'm against it =)

Build 433: Lots of little things have been fixed, including wind physics and the helm camera issue mentioned above.

Also, and probably more exciting, this is your first opportunity to see items from the Workshop in-game.  Everyone will be granted two new "goggles" and a handful of decals on login.

There isnt any way to get around having to tie your steam to a bank account for the workshop is there?

Unfortunately, no.  It's Valve's requirement, regardless of whether or not your items are actually being sold.

Been my hold up. I mentioned for someone else to post things but it doesn't seem they like the idea of trusting Valve with such info either.

I am with Geo on this one: Just add a note of how many meters there are or something. If I see two yellow lines intersecting with each other at 3/4 of the map image, I have no idea what this means until somebody explains it to me. Keeping the old grid with equally big squares makes it much easier to understand what these yellow lines are supposed mean.

Regarding Workshop items: Is there a way to differenciate between clan logo decals and normal decals? Else half of the decals will be for clans only and some may not even want people to use their decal outside the clan.

- Restored exclusive fullscreen mode as windowed fullscreen caused performance problems on many setups.  If you still want windowed fullscreen, you can use the "-popupwindow" launch option.

This is not working for me for some reason. It just stays in exclusive fullscreen mode and if I switch to windowed mode in-game it doesn't let me tab out, it just keeps showing the game.  :-\

"-popupwindow" only affects Windowed mode.  Fullscreen mode is exclusive fullscreen no matter what.

There appears to be another Unity bug of some kind at work, as well: if you switch from fullscreen to windowed mode, the game window remains on top.  You can work around this by simply quitting and relaunching the game; if it starts in windowed mode, there's no problem.
