Hey everyone,
Random idea popped into my head, what's your favorite and least favorite parts of Guns of Icarus.
This can be anything from roles to situations.
Example:
Favorite: Piloting a lumberfish
Least: Chem Spray Rotation
My goal is get a snap shot of the things we do best and things we could do better. You can definitely have more than one favorite (or least) and you can give reasons why as well.
This is a very open, very informal discussion where there are no wrong answers, simply data. You don't have to focus on gameplay answers either UI, customization design and anything in-game is up for grabs.
-
Favourite: Lobbies of Icarus and Piloting in general
Least Favourite: Try Hards :P
-
Do I get bonus points if I say our community overlords are the best thing?
-
Favorite: mine matches
Least favorite: being buff Engi, being on a squid.
-
Favorite: Responsive and talkative crews
Least favorite: Pilots/gunners who join a ship midgame when there is already a member of that class aboard.
-
Best: Piloting a Squid
Worst: Looking at the number of Squids in Hephaestus, and knowing there's a good reason for that.
-
Best: Everything in Patch 1.1
Worst: Everything since, cept for mines.
-
Best: Community, Engi on a squid, A clockwork Junker crew, the hades, the mine laucher, the mercury launcher, the closeness the devs are to the community. The cake clan.
Worst: A greased gat's hull instagib. Crew that fail to listen to my instructons. People 'assisting' on hull and malleting when i wanted to chem.
-
Best: mines! the community! teamwork!
Worst: unresponsive players who are unwilling to listen or work as a team and there's nothing you can do about it :(
-
a lot of people have already said the first thing that popped in my head.
the best and the worst, and everywhere in between: the variable of the people you get on your crew or team.
but, honestly, that's not the best for me. the friends I've made here count as a very close second. the absolute best is twofold. when I played Ragnarok Online, I worked hard to get our server to grow and to help new players, and I loved it. I found my niche. here, with Guns of Icarus, I've settled back into my niche again - and it is glorious.
combining that with the teamwork aspect of this game, guys, I am a much more confident person than I was five months ago when I first started playing. the level of communication required to do well in a match has pulled me out of my shell. this level of betterment of self - that is the best thing. there's been so much that I've wanted to do that I've shied away from with some level of stage fright. that is going away. it's impossible to express how happy and grateful I am for this.
I know that's probably not the data you were looking for Keyvias, but it's a nod of thanks to you guys.
other stuff I enjoy:
-shooting a hades, especially with lesmok rounds
-shooting a hwacha as a gunner, especially when the captain and I sync up well with timing of firing/not turning the ship
-a dev team that engages the community
-the clan I've leapt into <3
-good engineers that keep the ship alive much longer than anyone anticipated.
-effective communication among the crew
other stuff I could live without:
-ships with silent crew
-bright maps. Dunes/Practice are the worst.
-despite being in Clan Clan...mine launchers aren't my thing. don't hate me guys
-mortars. as awesome as I am on the hades, I usually can't hit anything with the mortar unless we're right up on the enemy. -_- you would think I'd be able to figure out the arc...
-playing main engi on a particular Squid on a Crazy King match. I spent that whole match going back and forth on the ship and whacking engines, and it was a looooooong match. my left hand hurt when the match was over. I don't doubt I'll find myself on a Squid in a Crazy King match again...but ugh, it's not something I look forward to. I don't look forward to Crazy King at all anymore.
-20 stacks of flame on anything, especially if there's a long cooldown in effect on the component. it just makes me sad.
-
Best: Galleon Ram.
Worst: Getting stuck on every damn bit of geometry on the ship while running around fixing things. Seriously. One of my friends quit after only a few matches because of it. As a 3D coder, he said it was "Inexcusable."

Best: The community.
Worst: Not being able to embed videos on the forum... (Enable flash embeds in the Config!)
-
Favorite:
So many things xD The game and the community in general are great, and the outfits for the character and the stuffs to customize the ships are pretty fun too, and uhhh yea basically everything that isn't in my least favorite things list :D (Edit) OMG AND THE JAPANESE VOICE THATS MY FAVE THING EVER XD
Least:
Having to shoot Hades cos I can't hit anything with that thing I swear... Also having to take chem spray instead of fire extinguisher and having to pilot (unless everyone else in my team is okay with losing badly xD). Oh and missing the ladders when everything up there is on fire, man that has costed many lives... Also lion gun op ;C And fire... oh god, the fire o.e #engietraumas

sparky, show me your ways, maybe I'll learn to like them? <3

I wish I had a clan...
Oh wait, no I don't. Free Operator is my preferred method of combat.

Gladly. :D

Like shooting the guns the most. Love them semirealistic physics.
Dislike waiting for both the game to start and for the pilot to point my gun towards the enemy. Also all the derailing of threads.
-
Favorite: finding a higher level lobby where I can play high skilled ships and loadouts, without using 20 minutes to explain things.
Least: the dramas.
-
Best: the game is fun, no way around it.
Worst: I rarely get to play the game that is fun.
-
Best :
- Speaking with passionate people
- Flying
- Giver order
- Spread my knowledge
- Question myself
- Eating cheese
Worst :
- Dealing with stupid troll
- Dealing with newbies who think that they are better than you
- Flamethrower (I have to use them but they are really annoying -> Framerate down ans they are too powerfull)
-
- Eating cheese

Best possible answer.
Game is super fun, but unfortunately only 1 out of 10-20 matches are actually that fun.
-
Best, Teamwork OP
Worst, Frame-rate issues
-
Best: Everyone that want to play and community
Worse: Everyone else and Muse being a small team, I want faster updates! BIGGER UPDATERS! ARGGHH!
Oh and feeling like I'm not making a different.
-
Bad: Not being alerted when people have issues so I can't assist them
Good: Getting a call from people who know me to come help out and assist in the deal with trolls and troulbed players :3
-
Best: Predicting enemy movements, spawn locations and making pilots run into terrain that try to fallow me. Also enjoy shooting mines at teammates and enemy ships.
Worst: People that make fun of new players for not knowing how to play and captains that yell at there crew.
-
Best: super high skill ceiling
Worst: super low average skill
-
Best: Flamethrowers
Worst: Chem Spray
-
Best:
-Setting
-Looks nice*
-Highly team-based without personal score (meaning - all the score is team's score - counter example is, say, Battlefield which is basically team-based game but you have individual score)
-More knowledge-based than agility/reflex based
-The philosophy of game - everyone can use everything from the beginning, the classes only define the number of things you can grab
-Very good monetisation policy ("Pay-to-look-cool")
-Great maps (mostly), guns (mostly) and ships.
Worst:
*(I assume it looks even nicer when you don't have to play on lowest graphical settings because reasons and more reasons)
-All the technical stuff: dc's, lags, framedrops, the above and all that...stuff. I tend to say that GOIO is an indie game which tries really really hard to pretend it's not indie (and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't).
-Crazy King matches that take forever to end (or any longer than 20 minutes)
-Necessity to have all crew members play engineer (when playing competetively) in most cases. (or in general class balance)
-Too much of floating around, to little of fun (for example flying around on Canyons for 10 minutes and when you find enemy ship it turns out that it's metamidion and kills you in about a minute)
-Open "pan-like" maps that encourage sniping builds which are not fun at all mostly (I'm looking at you, Dunes!)
-Lousy, lousy tutorials.
-As someone mentioned - not much of matches are actually FUN-fun
-Around 50% time spent in the game is spent in the lobbies, waiting
-
Best: The people.
Worst: Not enough people.
-
Best - Ship models, neat and beautiful.
Worst - Ship cosmetic themes... there is such a huge difference between their quality and ships, that it breaks esthetic feeling
-
Best: costumes, really fit the theme of the game, even if people use silly colors.
Worst: costumes, not enough of them!
And second worst, lore, because we need more lore!
-
Best : Crazy fun builds in mid/semi-low level matches. Everyone knows what to do but aren't generally caught up in the need to win so you get some awesome funny builds, played pretty well and not another meta game.
Worst : Getting caught up on geometry and having to jump and wiggle out of it. The rear engine on the Goldie and the Squid as a whole seem the worst culprits for this. Naughty Squid and Goldie.
If we're talking the things that aren't fixable by Muse I'd say that also;
Best : Most of the players. The game has an astonishingly good player base for the most part - you guys rock.
Worst : The minority of players. I won't rant about this, everyone sees them around. Ah well. The price for online play, I guess.
-
Best: Getting a flawless unspotted squid blindside.
The overall community and how positive a group everyone is.
Winning a 1v2 or 1v3 dogfight situation (or at least getting kills and escaping alive). "We're surrounded? Ha. There's no escape for them this time."
Worst: Captains who spectator jump to cancel match load timers.
Having a second gunner join the ship mid match, particularly if there is a lot of fire on the enemy team.
The way the mercury barrel sticks back in its housing after firing instead of recoiling to full extension. That bugs me more than it should.
-
Worst: Captains who spectator jump to cancel match load timers.
This wouldn't be a problem if ally captains would listen when you say "can you please unready, we need another minute". Wouldn't you rather wait a few more seconds than have your teammate have 3 gunners or engineers with buff/chem/extinguisher or lochnagar for the hwacha or whatever? I find that when a captain does this, usually the 30 seconds they gain is enough and the match starts right away afterwards, despite all the cries of "AW C'MON REALLY????" from the lobby.
-
Best: Tropo
Worst: everyone else
:D
-
I said getting stuck on everything, not stuck up.
-
lol

Allow me to rephrase for accuracy, then. Captains who spec dodge multiple times with no explanation or even a simple 'Hey, my second engie won't switch from pipe wrench to mackerel sandwich, will you unready for me' are the situations I intended to speak of.
