Something I've been working on the past two nights.

Hope y'all like it I'll post more images as I get more done.

That's awesome an awesome start. great work!
-
This looks amazing! I really wish that we could have Airfix models of GoI airships now :P.
Who else remembers Airfix? haha
-
Wow. Looks amazing! Please keep us updated.
-
This is ... phenomenal! I like it.
-
This looks really good. Try not to ram it into things when you are finished.
-
Ya that may be hard to resist, such a habit ya know.
I built a airfix spitfire not too long ago, good basic kits that give you a great satisfaction when a build goes really well.
Been laying out drawings for the lower deck, honestly this is the tricky part coming up. Lots of ways to make it look not quite right. I've already taken some libertys with certain details and relations...
Oh I figure the scale of this build to be aproximately 1/300.

Tonight's progress

And here you can see the gun deck is made from grate material.

-
Make sure you add the scrum bell on the lower deck.
-
Plants! Don't forget the Plants! Never forget the plants... even though Brittany is so tipsy sitting back there.
-
That's insanely good.

When can I buy one?
I'm not even joking. I would totally buy a finished pyramidion model. So cool.
What guns do you think you'll mount?
-
I'm planning on building a gat, carronade, flamer, lt flak, and mine launcher. The gun mounts on this model are magnetic so I'll be able to swap weapons :) and as I plan on building each ship, I intend to cast the weapons, when I make a goldfish there will be the sculpts for a hwatcha, and heavy flak
Part of the reason for these builds is looking for ways to make and cast the designs in resin. What compromises are required, and how complicated the models would be to build.
So far I have learned a lot.
-
Now I need to get a 3D printer.
-
Tonight's progress.
Subtleties but still some work in.

Also have the fuel tanks cut need to finish out the dome noses on those...

Today's progress
Ive attached the lower deck to the upper structure as I needed to insure I had not made a major error.
As it turns out I'm pretty pleased with the scaling of every thing one of the required compromises is the thickness of the main attaching lines all other rigging that will be done will be made using a method I learned building 1/900 scale sailing ships.

In truth I need to start painting on this thing as parts are only going to get harder to reach...
See y'all soon!
-
Wowza, this is great.
-
Whoa.
I want one please!
I fully second Redia I am totally up for talking price and shipping :p
-
shoot... if you ever think about selling this stuff, I'd consider buyin a squid :))
-
This build is going excellently - it is already unmistakable :D
I'd love to have one of these hanging from my ceiling or on a shelf :)
-
Been painting on this pics below the issue with selling either built models or kits is two fold,
These take a incredible amount of time to make I've logged something like 20 hours on it so far and still have a lot of details to add. Thusly a model like this would be... Prohibitively expensive.
I could make components and cast them. This would reduce the time required to build and finish. But then unless I have the ability to sell a fair number of them (50+) to amortize the cost of moulds, it's still a cost loss issue. The second element that I am considering is the IP issue. A set of models as a hobby project is one thing, an series of garage kits with money in mind is entirely a second thing.
If Muse is willing to discuss the possibility of my company bringing out a set of garage kits under a license I would entertain the possibility. But the builds would be rather different than the above. :)
Anyway pics!

More work on this next week had to set this project aside to concentrate on getting ready for comicpalooza!
-
This looks mightily fine! o.o
I was surprised when I read that the gun mounts are magnetic. The ship'll be just as modular as the big brother it is modeled after. :o
-
Go for it.
-
Wow. Super awesome model ! I'd buy something like that if I saw it in a shop.
-
I love the hull armor model, can you show a more detailed pic?

The nose of the model broke when trying to ram the junk off the desk.

Damn Maverick. I'm always cleaning ur Pyras, now you want me to clean everyone else's too!
-
I don't know what this means but yes absolutely!
-
Sorry move from hell took 3 months... We are almost settled again and this is on my work desk. As far as ramming junk off the desk that's a less effective method than starting over. :(
Anyway update soonish...
-
Looking forward to it.

..... I immediately had thoughts for a Warhammer style tabletop using models like this.
That would be very, very interesting.
And a great way for Muse to branch out, maybe. Possibly just leave it at kits to make collectible stuff, for a little extra in ways of funding.
I know I would love to have a little Goldfish on my bookshelf. It'd be a really cool way to make some extra cash and let the community have their favorite ships in reality.
