Title: The 1000hr Club
Post by: Squidslinger Gilder on January 18, 2014, 06:21:15 am
How many others have rolled over 1000 hours logged in game?

Stories? Words of wisdom to leave your fellow Aeronauts?

Just hit mine today. I know I've logged probably double that in WoW and SWTOR but it isn't recorded to really see it since those don't use Steam.

Thinking back did I ever think I'd still be here 1000hrs later? Nah, not really. I picked up the initial 4 pack and gifted the other three away. But when I started, it was just to join a friend of mine. He was more of a Steampunk nut than me, so I started off by crewing for him till he got tired of captaining and then he pitched me the captain's seat. Kinda figured I'd stop when he moved on.

Then he moved on, and I didn't.

The thing ya realize fast about this game is that most of the time you spend is in the lobby. If you are only coming in for McDonald's drive through service, you'll only stay till you get tired of your happy meal and then go next door to Taco Bell. But if you turn on your brain, start sitting there thinking, listening, learning...you pick up stuff. What looked like a simple concept gains a lot of depth.

You find out about the hidden menu. The one where they don't serve you ground up pink slop but actually filet minion. Ya know the good kind, not the stuff made with glue.

Then ya continue. Patches come, patches go. Same with tournaments. Ya weather some. Then some bring you to the brink of giving up and moving on. Again you reach the point where you sit and think...maybe give a new idea or two a try. Then you find out more hidden menus. Maybe the next one has king salmon fresh from the mouth of a bear which cooks it and serves it at your table dressed in a chef outfit.

The trick is, ya never know till you try. Never know till you use that mush ball sitting on your shoulders.

1000 hours, yeah thats a lot. But its just a number you'll eventually forget. Its all the matches during that time, all the lobbies, which you'll remember. Terrifying Spires with the magically appearing Junker off the port side. Learning how to dogfight with airships and drawing spectators to your aerial duel. And then the ever glorious sending Zuka into a drunken laughing fit by making cat sounds.

Heres to the next 1000hrs!  8)

I usually close my game instead of letting it run in the background.

It would be most interesting to see a stat on actual in-match time.

I think I hit my 1000 hours a week or two ago. About 1/2 of my match time (likely 1/3 of game time ((would really like to see some metadata on this))) was spent piloting a Galleon.

lobby waiting time still counts as actively being there in the game imo :p

You can, in the progress tab there your amount of ingame time as each class, add em up and there you have it

I'm at 550 now, and have no intention of stopping short of 1000

Funny, so counting up ingame time. About a little over 50% of that 1000hrs is from actual combat. The rest, lobbies.

692 in steam, 311 in matches, still a ways off from the 1,000 club, especially since my playtime dropped off a lot recently. Nearly 2000 matches.

I dunno if that could ever be done. There is a bit of setup to do before flying. Just like doing a preflight checkup. Unless you wing it and don't care. Which I often do at times. Only way I'd say to alleviate it some would be to have a box that pops up when someone joins a ship, set up by the captain, which requests loadouts/etc. But even then, takes time for people to adjust. Plus some would complain because they don't like the popup in their faces.

Guess if you wanted to make it so some wouldn't complain, you just call it a form of "ready check." MMOs all have that but instead for GOIO it would pop up a list that the captain sets which displays requested loadouts and equipment without them speaking or arguing. Of course it would pop up a different list depending on the class chosen.

Steam says I passed 1000 hours last week. However when I look at my play times for each class, I have just over 500 hours of in game time. Which means I have spent half my time in lobby chatting it up you fine folk or watching internet videos waiting for the game to start. I think this is time well spent.

aw, i thought my time would of been longer :( steam says i've only played 664 hours.

and if i go into game and see how long i've played each class (in the progress tab) it says i've played 214 hours in match?

The people that play this are definitely the main reason i've sunk this much time into one game. Cheers everyone!

I like the idea of naming AI characters after the players.

Also, I'm only around 50 hours, but for my first couple of weeks, I'm not doing too badly...

You could have unlock-able badges for the in-game profile, they would probably require less work ^^

*bumping this thread.*

1270h on steam
2427 matches
Joined date 8 / 9 / 2013
15 h 50 min as pilot
12 days 6 h 36 min as gunner
7 days 22 h 20 min as engineer
(500 h and 46 min total i believe)

I remember finding out about the game by watching Angry Joe playing it in one of his vids. Didn't understand how i had never heard of it.
Found the game's teamwork cool, community nice and devs cooperative.
I hope the game will still be about teamwork. I like how a 4 player crew can cooperate as a team, 2+ ships can fly together and even if the world is open you have to work together to survive.

It's a great change to some games that don't have that.

I've been a member of this club for quite a while now as well. No other game managed to hook me like this one so far. So attaboy, muse, you did something right! :)

I recently calculated that about 45% of my hours logged (according to steam) were actually match time (according to the game's timers).

1053 hours here.  Hit 1000 a couple weeks ago.  Happy to be part of the club!  <3

I would surely have more hours logged than my current amount, 640, if I had a more reliable schedule.
