We all like winning matches, but when it comes down to it, we're just here for fun. Sometimes that fun can be achieved by facing off against an equally skilled team, but at other times more... unconventional means are used. So, what are the craziest things you've done to get a good laugh from GoIO?
In my case, I've been on some all-flamer Junkers before, but the best moments are the all-harpoon ships, or the time that Smollett loaded his Junker's broadsides with flares. Even better was when Furry, Lehran, Metal Man and I went all captains on a Goldfish (and still beat the other team), or when I crewed in a match made up entirely of Galleons with carronades in every slot.

Can't remember all the wierd shit I've made. I remember getting some winning streaks while using an all-flare ship. Some all-harpoon matches were also quite awesome.
One of my best memories is still when Thomas rammed me while using moonshine and began to spin like a frigging mixer

Some of the things mentioned in there. I remember a lobby I was in, we ended up doing all junkers and all harpoons...... on canyon ambush. After that we did an all galleon match in which we held broadside after broadside.

Light Gattling on the front, Barking Dog on the back, and Harpoon on the side of a Squid. My first match ever. Also happened to be the pilot/captain. Took on a Pyramidion and won somehow. Just kept flying past it, telling my side gunner to harpoon it to do a quick turn, and did some balloon popping. I'm gonna need to find a crew to join me that's just as crazy as I am when I fly...

I recently crewed with a guy who flew his Squid backwards, saying that the engines helped shield the hull from damage. Now that was really weird.

I remember that i was on an all harpoon pyramidion, and one of the kills we got was a suicidal double kill, it was funny and glorious. Also there was a time when i was on an all carronade galleon and all we had were lochnagar rounds, we were just flying around trying to get close to the enemy, but the crew chatter was hilarious.

Barely avoid scraping the ground as usual as my crew berates me for my insane piloting. Spire hits the ground, unable to move. First kill of the game. 1 shot fired by the squid.

Harpoon squids are the best harpoon ships, they'll be going at top speed and then someone lands a harpoon and then someone gets slingshotted full speed into a wall or their ally or their own ship and it's so very possible to oneshot another ship with a ram and it's just this insane game of high speed bumper cars.
My favorite moment by far has been the Poop Deck Pricker colliding with a wall at a roughly 30° angle, bouncing off at roughly two to three times its normal top speed and RIGHT into an otherwise too far to reach enemy Pyramidion, OLBITERATING it from full armor and HP (it lived for like two seconds before dying to a lone gatling) for the win. And of course, it was square in the engines, just to live up to the name.

Harpoon Squids are just the best. At the end of the CA games every month, all of the ships go full-harpoon Squids. It gets really, really hectic.

Best time: Dual flame junkers (ally was Lehran) on Canyon.
Bestest Idea: Triple flame junkers on Canyon. My god, all I can think of is this line: Don't cross the streams!

Let's see... Usually my matches with Vatic as captain are really ridiculous. We did a harpoon squid once, sniped a galleon through a hole in some wreckage on Duel at Dawn, actually damaging the galleon more than our own ship. The other night everyone was a gunner with chem spray; the context is hard to convey on that one, though.

Killing a Galleon with a Ram in a Squid.
Also I have seen Harpoon Squids be very successful. There was one match that I was in my Pyrmid and my teammate said "I'm going doing an all Harpoon Squid". It was Canyons and he keep sneaking around and would harpoon the enemy ship to pull their guns out of range and slam them into the Canyon walls. I would then clean up with the Pyrmid. To my surprise we won!

how the heck did you manage to keep a galleon on the ground while simultaneously translating things in Google to RUSSIAN and then try to pronounce them right afterwards while still battling the Galleon.

Fire and kill a Galleon for the winning point with a Charged-Buffed Harpoon on a junker.
I was crewing under AhhBissetto and decided to be "lower-deck Engi!" with a buff-hammer and a pipewrench, I kept my engine alive, and used her two harpoons to rail things into the ground, we effectively got a killed from me telling her to chute-vent down, ramming a squid into the ground (inspired by other tales I've heard).

Ah, I forgot to mention that Zuka was my ally that round, we just NARROWLY missed hitting him causing us to hit the wall in the first place, and narrowly missing him again when we launched at supersonic speed towards the enemy Pyramidion. We spent the score screen and a good two minutes in the lobby just laughing uncontrollably.

I just played a few victorious matches with two native-Russian fellows earlier today. Every time we destroyed a ship, they broke out into song in Russian. I tried to join in :-\

I made sandwhiches; did the laundry and translated a whole lot of different things in exotic languages for my husband and I got divorced last year;- so it's either the sandwhich or laundry that is doomed to fail your marriage by elimination process. I'm personally rooting for the sandwhich.

This might not qualify, but this is the most absurd thing that's ever happened to me, please keep in mind this was BEFORE "smart" spawning.
Piloting the Galleon, in a hellish battle fighting for my life, try to vent chute down to avoid fire, but it doesn't work, we're killed. Oh well.
Respawn. You know how when you have a piloting tool active when you die, when you get back on the helm that tool is still selected? Well the second I touch the helm we plummet straight down thanks to the vent chute. We go down and through the enemy squid that was right under where I spawned.

Actually, we did a whole lot that day.
Took a Galleon's weak side and Hwatcha sniped Galleons in a 2v2 (this is pre flak updates, too.) We had two kills on that, and the squid got 3.
Dual Spire team...we won
Dual Squid vs. Dual Galleon...we won. Died 3 times because the second Galleon had a decent pilot who would harpoon us and drag us into the fire of two Hwatchas...
3 Galleon vs 3 Squids in Angelan Raiders...we (the Galleons) won...
Mostly, I try to talk non-chalantly as if everything is alright to crews, or even captains if I get that spot...

So long as the sandwiches your wife makes you never exceeds the dishes you do or the garbage you take out, your marriage should be fairly safe. As for translating to Russian, I did that before the match started and used a piece of paper. Ahh slave piece of paper, you will never abandon me.

Harpoon on the Cloud Whaler, on the bowsprit, because you know... It's a Cloud Whaler. Anyways, my engineer, Jilliekun, harpoons a Pyramidion piloted by our own Japanese CA. I'm rocketed to the right in a tight turn with phoenix claw, pulling the Pyramidion while my gunner shreds it's armor with the gattling.
The Pyramidion sling shots full bore into the mountain side in Fjords and just explodes. Was AWESOME.

Ya, a lot of things need to come together for that to happen. The pyramidion was likely going full speed, I was at top speed reverse, with phoenix claw on while turning and the Harpoon shot was a lucky hit.

Just as I am about to clear the last rib I get this premonition that the Spire probably saw me coming this way and is waiting with a Manticore aimed in my direction. I put the squid in full reverse and come to a stop. Not two seconds later this wall of Manticore rockets comes flying past our nose. I told my crew the reason why I stopped before we saw the rocket barge. They were suitably impressed.

Was flying today, doing my best to ram the life out of everybody. I'm usually terrible at it, but today it worked. I was flying my Pyra towards an enemy Spire, with their Goldfish nearby. My gunners weakened the Spire's hull, I rammed it, and it predictably exploded. But then I was thrown to the side, straight into the Goldfish. Full health to destruction. Double ram kill. It felt amazing, and it was a complete accident.

One of those strange little details this morning, engineering for Gilder on Goldfish and a Flak round from a Pyra sailed down the length of the deck, between me and the Hull repair point, about 2' off the deck and missing everything. Perfect straight-down the hull alignment.

Jaeger and I spent a ridiculous amount of time today running up the ropes at the back of the Galleon to try and get to the top, which we eventually managed. I had no idea they were so intricate.
I also tried Practice mode for the first time since my first few days in the game, and probably only my third time ever. Using the damage and fire buttons is just so, so addictive.

The most random moment I've ever had was when I was playing engie on a goldfish. Our ally was attacking a different ship and he had just died. There was a gatling targeted on that ship, so I decided to give it a shot. One shot from the gatling knocked over the enemy ship.
It felt so random.

Friendly spire dies, it's Fjords, two pyramidions are dead ahead, the one on my right is corkscrewing and descending with a busted balloon and right engine failure.
One is bearing down on me, I've got kerosene, Phoenix claw, and ink. Experience tells me to turn hard, ink and burn for my ally so we can be 2v1, but my ally has been using his spire like a close range ram and lasts 4 seconds toe to toe with the pyra.
I tell my gunner, charged rounds strip the balloon, I charge the pyra, it's balloon pops and begins to slide under me, I dive just over it and keep diving, inking him, disabling his guns and engines, I burn kerosene and head straight for the disabled pyramidion close to a mountain and ground, gunner kills his ballon, I bank hard right with claw and hit his front end, get sent forward while he strikes the wall, ink him, his components blow up.
Come about hard again on Phoenix, while my newby engineer frantically gets my engines to semi full, ram the crippled pyra through my ink to score the kill.
Other pyra finally is coming to help, shred my balloon and I start descending fast, but turn into the charge and have gunner load loch and scores a lucky balloon strike that also breaks armor. Out of the clouds, the friendly spire comes charging down weapons blazing and finishes the pyramidion.
We go on to loose the match 5-2, spire feeds the team 4 more times with rams. But those 2 kills, awesome.

Squidpoon match: After Zill said "If we score a harpoon Loch kill, that's it - I'm done", I had to oblige, and a Lochnagar Shot kill was scored with a harpoon at spitting distance. Is there a rarer kind of kill? Ridiculous indeed.

Took a galleon low altitude into the canyon to save an ally that was getting double teamed by a blender-fish and a Pyramidion. I kill the blenderfish with a Carronade and Hwacha on my right side, and scared the Pyramidion into Heliuming out of the battle.

I think its an unofficial rule that when going backwards with a goldfish you have to go "BEEP... BEEP... BEEP" like a backing up truck.

I'm with Helmic, you can't see behind you on a Galleon so a warning beep over captain chat might be more appropriate.

Rather it was something our crew did as a whole. Our captain decided he wanted to see what would happen if he crashed into the water so he got off the helm and just watched as we crashed into a nearby rock on water hazard, I then began singing The Minstrel Boy while repairing the hull, we crash into several more rocks before our captain decided he didn't want to die, all in all we ended up not dying that whole round and won.

Happened back in the last Steam sale in a Fight over Ein......

I had my lumberjack, and they had a hwatcha (unlucky gunner didn't know how to use it) and a blenderfish.
Being a Lumberfish, I did my role of long-distant support. when it got to around 4-2 (favour of my team and my ship has yet to fall,) the two Goldfish started to team on me; however...the Hwatcha stayed at range while the Blender came close. I did my first instinct, which is falling back to allow the full use of lesmok and charged rounds for the Lumberjack, but I did not have kerosine; the blenderfish did.
Instead, I went full throttle into the blenderfish, used Hydrogen to scoot over them, full reversed, and phoenix clawed an about face. I continued to go in reverse as my gunner put in Incindiary and then Charged rounds into the Lumberjack respectfully.
I played chicken with the Carronade fish like that for three passes until they eventually just blew up.
Then of course went to handle the hwatcha while he was long range-non heavy clipping me. Until the Blenderfish came back, in which I repeated the same maneuvers, got him again, and then finally sank the Hwatcha with a steal kill.

I was once killed by my own ship, the "Mo Dakka Dakka Dakka" to be precise. I was flying with a good crew against some fairly green players when my wife informed me that the wifi had crashed and she was about to reset the router (I have a wired connection and was still playing). I explained the situation to my crew and logged off when we were in a lul between combat.
After I regained my connection I rejoined the same server only to find some one else had taken the captains slot on my ship. The only available slot was an engineer post on the other team. So I rejoined the server just in time to see the my own ship bearing down upon me. I recognized it by its gun layout and felt a shiver of terror run up my spine as I remembered the crew I was so recently leading were a merciless lot for whom missing a shot was something that other people did.
They killed us very quickly despite of my best efforts.

Not quite something I did buuuut I was on the ship.
We had a troll pilot, spire, in canyon. He full throttled to the other spawn and would sit there...and turn away his guns so we couldn't shoot.
Well another player Bagahnoodles, took the helm, and we did get two kills...and the pilot (who was level 1 and in the captain seat) didn't even attempt to take his helm back....even though since he was the commander of the ship, he could.
Don't think he knew that.

Was flying my Galleon once against a squid and goldfish in a 2v1(never happens to me (lulz)), we stay long enough to get the goldfish to back off, but we're about to die from the squid, and I can't turn fast enough with the claw to get a shot off. So I kite this guy around the large bridge in Fjords until our hull armor comes up, flick the engines to full throttle and pop moonshine. Right as he parks in front of us he gets rammed and blows up. Awesome.

Resource race. Everyone goes engineer. All galleon's. Frantically try to get on the points. T'was all fun till I used incendiary rounds and then the enemy team started to pop our balloons :(

We're all on the point and about 100 points away from winning, then the other team (two Pyras and a Squid) make a final charge. Jessica goes down first after they target her Goldfish, and right after the sandstorm disappears Spas goes down too. We're about 50 points away from winning, and I've already lost permahull. Spas and Jessica tell me "You need to hold this, just for 30 seconds"
So I charge the closest Pyramidion, I pass underneath, I hydrogen into his underside, and he goes flying about 100m upwards and into the wall. In the time it takes him to get back, I hold on against the other Pyra and we win. My engi (AWildGodzilla) did an awesome job at holding the ship in one piece.

I've got to say, CP matches are great for moments like these. I had a fantastic duel with EvilJennifer or something like that where I was maneuvering my squid around and through pipes on Refinery to stay out of the gunsights and hold the point.

I regularly end up marking ships while plummeting off of mine. It's usually a case of "I just need a few more inches past this gun to mark that low flyer" and not actually having those inches. I imagine I'll eventually learn not to do so, but for now at least it's amusing.

Today in a muse 3v3 match I was on Awkm's junker.
We were facing a team of 3 gat/flak Pyras. After we died we regrouped with our Galleon. Suddenly the Galleon exploded and behind it we see all 3 pyres facing us at perfect range for them!!!
We had 4 points and the enemy had 6.
Somehow....WE KILLED ALL 3!

Crazy things I've done... hmmm...
Using a balloon pop squid to tackle a Galleon with a newby crew all speaking Russian, using impact bumpers and my Hulls armor (Squid armor, lol, I know right?) to keep the Galleon on the ground while trying to pop it and speaking a slurred russian from google translate.
After a match my gunner speaks in PERFECT english, "Your russian is very bad, please, use English."

I single handily made an entire server fly spires. In the same server we flew all carronade galleons on duel at dawn, it was ridiculous.

I've only started today but on 3 (maybe more) separate occasions I have hijacked the helm due to pilots wandering out onto the deck or pilots leaving the game altogether.
My only regret is I didn't shout "This is a mutiny. I'm taking over this ship"

Then I start cussing on how it sucks to be flying a ship as an engineer, or, in a more recent case, a gunner since my own pilot tool is a spyglass...while simultaneously kicking the other team's butts...

Just did a 10-second lesmok salvo, five hits (three hit one ship, two hit the ship behind him since he sank.)
If I do my maths right...lumberjack arming time is 1.2 seconds, and it's 300m to arm with that (if you read those patchnotes been a while so no clue if that's changed.)
Soo
300m / 1.2s = 250m/s
250m/s * 60% = 150m/s + 250m/s = 400m/s
400m/s * 10s = 4000m
Did help a bit that those two ships were sitting still....

I got bored one time and told my pick-up crew to be my eyes. I was surprised that all three agree to it, and the whole time, all i heard we shouts of different directions and screams. :P

ooh, zuka was losing 4-0 on dunes at 50% permahull, called for help in steamchat and I joined his ship mid-game unwittingly as a pilot, after which we proceeded to systematically gatflak our way to a rather exhilarating victory.

4 captains a Squid flying backwards, and only using a single flare gun to kill people. we won 5-0 because "Flare gun is OP" XD

I broke one of the fundamental laws of piloting yesterday, to great effect.
My team was winning 4-0 in 2v2 Dunes. I was flying my wonderfully amazing ramming Pyramidion. I was working on focusing a Junker down, but he was surviving and I was getting bored. Then the enemy Spire started to get close. So I said to myself "Screw it, let's get the Spire". I moonshined towards him and got the instakill with a ram.
Ramming with Pyras is fun in general. It's especially fun when they don't see you coming. Like when you spawn right behind them at the start, and get a kill about 20 seconds into the match.

Kpenguin and I snuck up on a squadron of three Pyramidions in a Gallion and managed to kill one before they knew we were there. It didn't hurt that we had one of those freak starting spawns where we popped up on the far side of the map from our team. Still they had 12 sets of eyes and none of them noticed the behemoth creeping up from behind.

This one time me and Papa P were playing with Zill, along the way we figured that we were just going to fuck around so we kept ramming him into shit and got him killed, and then we died. This went on for the entire match.
And of course once it was over I just said "quack quack" in the PGL

try putting two harpoons at the front. makes it near uncontrolable. but hearing how pissed off the enemy was after that match god damn hillarious

This is why I have no idea why people play this game with music drowning out everything else, including voice chat. It really limits your awareness of, well, everything.
