Title: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Plasmarobo on June 21, 2013, 12:52:54 pm
Any questions, out of character discussion, problems, conflicts, sillyness, meta-comments, and or whatever for The Skies have no Limit takes place here.

Note that we are set some unspecified amount of time after the end of the Burning Skies!

I might participate on a regular basis if my summer is boring enough. Otherwise I'll pop in every once in a while. I can't really get that much dedication into an RP.

I haven't RPed in a long while, and never on a forum. I think I'll give a try, why not, right?

To be clear, this is freeform RP. There are no 'rules' or 'roles'.
I think Lord Dick Tim is making an actual D20 ruleset or something.

Yeah, this is a forum RP, not a tabletop. Which makes it 20% cooler.

I've actually done TableTop PbP over forums (before roll20 was a thing).
It was like, super slow. But fun. It becomes more of a writing exposition determined by dice. Which is also fun.

I'm up for it, I'll have to come up with a new character, but it'l be cool.

I want in, and I will make as many references to Arcanum as possible

Love me some Arcanum.
If any of you forum MUD players get a chance I may need some help with some social interaction dice stuff.  I'd like to weigh the ability of just good role play next to what kind of modifiers that might get you in dice form.  Essentially have somebody "set the scene" so to speak, allowing an example for my dice players to follow.

I feel like an idiot.

For some reason I thought you were going Dr.Who. (Or segue-ing from the Epilogues)

Disregard! (It's been a long day)
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Piemanlives on June 24, 2013, 06:56:35 pm
XD, I don't go Dr.Who in an RP unless you know, Dr.Who RP............. in my case my characters are from out of town, way out of town, hearing about the battle they spent some time getting there and have been around ever since. And by that I mean we now operate out of Cathedral.

What is with this "open-close" business, what is the goal of it? :)

It's a tyrranical rule to hinder non-americans from joining in the fun -.-

Srsly though, Yiski had it so that there wouldn't be a ton of new posts made during the night, for them to read every morning. I guess it's probably kinda good to have that rule with a bit stricter times when more people are on to continue the story, and to pause it to give people time to come up with their new parts.
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Plasmarobo on June 26, 2013, 08:02:20 am
Let me do a quick poll here then.

Have you (so far) been prevented from contributing by this open-close business?

If so, what times (I'm EST, so we're GMT -4 I think) would you rather I opened/closed at?
We could maybe set it up so that BdrLine closes if he's willing and I open.
Still pretty US-centric. Personally, I've got a wide range of time pockets I can fire off a post in, I know other are not so lucky.
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Sgt. Spoon on June 26, 2013, 09:37:09 am
Oh I was just joking around, heh seems like I forgot to mention that. Sure, the times are a bit annoying for me, but I imagine them being pretty good for US people (which makes up the big mayority)

it's not awful for me either
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Gryphos on June 26, 2013, 10:28:59 am
The open-close system itself is not such a problem for me, the only problem for me being the fact that here in London, its around 3 in the morning when stuff starts closing up. It's not a major problem but still somewhat annoying sometimes.
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Mill Wilkinson on June 26, 2013, 12:11:23 pm
Well, I am GMT +3 currently, so the thread ends up being closed when I am awake. If the majority are americans, this system is understandable, but for me it limits my posts to two or three per day, absolute maximum.  :)
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Plasmarobo on June 26, 2013, 12:19:44 pm
Well, I'll see what I can do to maximize the hours, maybe make it 24/6 or something. I'd be willing to experiment, but I do like the enforced advancement. We could shift to a advance model instead of open-close.

But yeah, I'm just not awake as late as I used to be. I'll take a look at TZ mappings and see if I can't find a way to accommodate everyone.

Why not just make a post that declares another day instead of having several hours of downtime?

That is what I meant by "advance model".

But yeah, backlogs. We'll try it and see if I can deal with the backlogs.

Oh it is Charles Nelson and Courage Bell, story goes, after the Anvalan Battle with the Barons, Bell and Nelson got out off the Defenders once their contracts were up and BdrLine hired them.

IRP, about a week or so.

*She and Roland heads to the dance floor*

--Somewhere in Anvala--
*A group of guards are now on the lookout for Spoon*
*Each of the are equipped with tranquilliser darts and rifles*

*The two guards who were on the BdrLine chase are amount them*

What's with people going crazy this week huh? First it's BdrLine, now.... this guy

Don't ask me. We are just here to keep order. And the damaged he cause yesterday. This does deviently need order

Ugh let's just get this over with and find him. Once we get him, it's the hospitals problem now

You said it... hey you see that over here?

*the group stops and turn to where the guard pointed to*
*It was a calm alley way where there was nothing out of the ordinary, until Spoon crashes out of a window screaming words that the guards couldn't understand*

Looks like it's our man... QUICK AFTER HIM!

*A chase erupts around the city as the guards were chasing Spoon*

You just hop in. Pick a good time and write yourself into the action. It's a collaborative thing, so you just add something to the story and see how other people react to it. I wrote a character in a while ago, but never got around to doing anything else due to laziness. I imagine he's still puttering around Cathedral, making huge profits from the Festival crowd.

Kind of I guess, the pirates used them back in the days of GoI, the original, we haven't seen them in GoIO yet but they are making an appearance in Adventure Mode. Also we just had the rocket race, it was pretty hectic.

Oh that rocket race, but I think there are planes in the RP, for sure there is an Air Corp in Anvala and I think someone touch Yesha having one.

If I remember there was a concept art by Muse for planes, but mainly WW1 planes but a bit faster and some monoplanes in the mix.

I'd focus less on planes. My understand is they are an experimental and temperamental technology at this point and not at all common. That said, it is an RP, do what you feel man.

I'm working on wrapping up the birdman story, and then we should all be getting back to the Wild winds in short order.
But yeah, just drop in anytime.

There is something I don't get. Can you control other people's characters in the story???
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Piemanlives on August 06, 2013, 07:01:24 pm
To a degree, like if your character and 1 of mine are doing something together then you can do that to continue the story but I doubt you can kill someones character off, that would be rude.

yeah, I get that. I would never wanna kill you, especially after you mentioned me in the story. Please let me know if Nova becomes too much for the story. I'll try to not go overboard, but I wanted to do something unique.

if you've been reading (Which I hope you have) a few members of the RP are doing a mission or something like that together, Plasma and BdrLine are facing off against the birdmen (Wankers the lot of them)

Wait, Plasma and I or the Birdmen?

But Quaggan, besides being an Inn, it's also a place to find bounties. So maybe you can make up, explore the city and interact with Alex, or wait for the others to come back.

The Cantina seems a bit too quiet, as well as the RP Thread. Should we continue with this current storyline or have a wrap up and start with another. A wrap being I close this current story with a long chapter of sorts from where we left off to a conclusion.

Thoughts.
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion

I'd really like to see this wrapped up and molded by the posters, but I agree that the Cantina is extremely vacant at the moment, I'm for either side really, hope the others get on the ball and get involved in the discussion.

On another note we really need to recruit more people to RP in the forum.

Secondary note for Mac, the Militia HQ is a separate building, the customs office handles trade for the larger docks however an office for militia adviser in matters pertaining to city security, it also serves as an access point to the larger militia communications network. Notice how I didn't refer to the customs house during that conversation. I can make this work though, that will be easy.

Can we remap the city, I forgot where was most of the buildings.

Ok in the south is Alex's warehouse and a military section that I can't remember
West have the inn and I think more decking sections for cargo ships
The north have more space and  another military section
The middle are shop sand other accommodations

Anything else I'm missing or need more clarification?

For those of you just joining us let us give you a summery of recent events:

Several government officials in the Yeshan Empire are planning a covert operation to take over the guild, several of our characters have latched onto this plan and strive to end it, this includes Bdrline's characters, Gryphos's characters, and a portion of mine (I really need to cut down my cast, hopefully without killing anyone off) My main set of characters is currently off escorting a Militia Galleon as they move to retrieve replacement ships for the guard, another one of my set of characters is on their way to inform them of the Yeshan plot and have them head towards the guild as soon as the ships are picked up.

And I will make a post soon later in the day.

Also I didn't have the shapes or parts to make the pyra on the back of the second ship, but you can scale the ship size if you imagine it on there.

On the end of the day, it is around 6 PM, dusk to night.

Also Pie, it's a IPad app called Battleship Craft, but the company discontinued the game. It's not in the store anymore, but to those who haven't deleted it can keep it. And these are the smallest ships I made, I have a fleet worth of ships three times the size  8)

Lockheart, I'm a little confused. Did you write Anvala as part of the Guild or that it's like it's own guild?
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Captain Lockheart on January 23, 2014, 12:29:21 pm
Dang, i need to clarify. Part of its own guild. Is that correct, i was having a conversation with skrim and we were talking about the map and Anvala is, disputed to where its alliances lie.

Lockheart means, he wishes to see the Mercantile Guild, not Accounting for Anvala. Sorry. Reading it back it is a bit confusing...

The Metcantile Guild has a Guildhall in Anvala, as it does almost every major city, but Anvala is not part of the Mercantile Guild.

Yes the Wild Winds Inn is located in Cathedral, and there is no major damage of sorts.

As for inns in Cathedral, you can join the inn or make a new one up.

Edit: Also Anvala is still open if anyone journeys there. And if you value your sanity, don't drink the ale.

As it stands there isn't much room for interaction considering the current state things (RP wise) Our characters are scattered and not really connected to one another. However the moment we all set foot onto Guild soil is where things will hopefully get interesting.

Post by: BdrLineAzn on February 02, 2014, 01:28:54 pm
With the timeframe that Pie put in for his set, I would say over the town of Albys, around nightfall would be over the middle of the Gulf and morning we will hit land at Starostrog.
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Piemanlives on February 05, 2014, 02:36:05 am
So knowing that, what is the current status of all our characters, where do we all stand and when do we think we will arrive? Considering my characters are not escorting a Galleon anymore it should take them a day and a half, however considering how damaged it is I would expect sometime by mid afternoon the next day.

Hmm, I'm thinking of editing a lot of the material in the Burning skies, and then the Skies Have no limits, so that they could fit within 'Books'

Mac, it was a group of Baron Lords who overthrow Greger that tried to take Anvala. The Guild is in the most part fine after the Guild-Baronies Conflict, time wise happened before the the original RP.

Unformatted, Copy-pasted, the Skies has no Limits thus far would take up 585 8.5 by 11 inch paper sheets.

I write what pops into my head, if it is still understandable and can be read, I call it a good days work.

If the basic outline of a plot is there, then it is fine by me.

Remember how I mentioned a story? Well it's turning into something much bigger then I intended and I might have to release it on a chapter by chapter basis, if anyone is willing to provide feedback as I write the chapters feel free to send me a PM.

Also on page 15 of the RP I made a post setting the time table back 5 years for a flash back, I am retconning this to 2 years, as Dahlia joined the crew after the "Hellfire Event" assume at least 1 year prior to the Event of this RP as the date of her joining the crew.

As for characters, we all have our own set of characters, though should the situation require it we can use other peoples characters to advance the story, like if two characters from two different posters are having a conversation, one of the posters can use the other to continue or add context to the conversation.

For instance poster A:
Quote
Dave
"Should we open the door?"

Dave was excited to enter their new house, the two of them had waited years to start a real family together. Susie stood quietly for a few moments.

Susie
"Not yet, there's something I have to do first."

She ran back to the car to grab something.

Followed by poster b:

Quote
Susie wanted to immortalize this moment, as she and Dave stood by the door she was nearly entranced by the key in his hand.

Dave
"Should we open the door?"

Susie was snapped out of her trance. She thought for a few moments before speaking.

Susie
"Not yet, there's something I have to do first."

She turned back and ran towards the car parked on the driveway, digging through its trunk she found the camera, she turned back to Dave standing by the door and smiled, before pressing the capture button.

Mainly, just make you own character and/or crew and jump right in. Also with interactions with other character, we usually quote the last thing that person says to you and go on from there. Time to time we may take some control, but it is very limited.

...I'm still dealing with formatting, I just added the recent posts, and am looking at certain fonts to make the thought portions count, as unfortunately, copperplate lacks an italicized or oblique font face (italicized: Slanted, usually with different serifs; Oblique: Slanted)(Yes, I deal with fonts a large amount of the time.)

Thanks!

Post by: Piemanlives on February 23, 2014, 07:51:10 pm
The current situation can boiled down into the following.

We are currently trying to prevent the total takeover of the guild from the inside out by rouge members of the Yeshan Empire, while we have arrived we are currently trying to assess the current situation and how to go and actually deal with the situation.
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Don Griffen on February 23, 2014, 07:55:01 pm
I don't know what any of that means XD
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Piemanlives on February 23, 2014, 07:59:18 pm
It's exactly what it says, officials high in the Yeshan Empire are attempting a covert take over of the Guild (refer to the map for this). Our characters have been alerted of the plot through a letter that was stolen from the office of one such official. Realizing the damage this could cause it was decided that we would try and prevent this from happening, so we packed up and flew over to the Guild capital of Vyshtorg and are now trying to avoid attention while we figure out what to do.
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: BdrLineAzn on February 23, 2014, 08:01:24 pm
Lol, basically, two of the six Factions in game are involved. One wants to expand through any means necessary, Yesha Empire, the other is the target for they have a hold of finances and trading, Mercantile Guild. So far, there are a few groups involved trying to stop this plot, one in Yesha, the others already in the Guild.

If that is too much, you can always start off in Anvala at the Burning Skies Saloon, Cathedral at the Wild Winds Inn, or at Chang-ning at the Crimson Skies Saloon.

Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Don Griffen on February 23, 2014, 08:21:50 pm
Nope! I think I'm good! Thanks! So should I just be a random character at first or something?
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: macmacnick on February 23, 2014, 08:24:53 pm
Create a character, making sure they are not using the same name as another (avoiding confusion) and then a good way to start is by coming in on an airship to say cathedral, then maybe getting a room to stay in at the Wild winds inn in cathedral.

Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Piemanlives on February 23, 2014, 08:28:23 pm
Have an idea of who your character is, and then have them do something, whether they're on their way to work or just wandering the streets, arriving in one of the current cities we are currently focusing on, or even just have a snack on a roadside bench. It's up to you.
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Don Griffen on February 23, 2014, 08:34:30 pm
So I was reading the most recent page, and I got a bit confused. So, Pie, I am familiar with your crew of Alex, Richard, Phillip, and others in Vyghtorg, but who are the other crews like Gareth, Hector, And Lyre or Captain Oakenshield and Julius Lockheart?

Where is Griffinheart? Where is Cathedral? Where is Chang-ning?
Title: Re: The Skies have no Limit Discussion
Post by: Piemanlives on February 23, 2014, 08:38:39 pm
Refer to you map for a second, Ching-ning is located off to the west of Cathedral, Cathedral is located near the center of the map, Griffinheart is the name of Gareth, Hector, and Lyre's ship. I'm not familiar with Captain Lockheart's characters so I can't really help you on those.

An example is the northeastern city from Chang-ning, one says Yan Tower, the other Ho Tower.

If someone would be able to, please make a post in the RP with the events and then get me a cliffhanger with the characters setting foot on the guild's soil. (For that doc of mine, so I can maybe split it and have a pretty damn good ending point to start the third, which would begin with the conflict.) Funny how I have two forms of writing, the Skies RP format and a traditional narrative.

...Bdr, a traditional narrative for the RP doc would be interesting. However, the RP format is like a TV or movie script...

What I mean is I use the the script form for the RP, the RP format, and another writing I do outside of the is more of a traditional sense.

Also, mac get back into this.

With my departure, may I ask one of the mods to lock "The Skies have no Limit" thread. Once I have free time when I return, I will make a large narrative to wrap this entire quest up.

I MUST GET ONE LAST POST IN TO SET UP WHERE RICHARD AND ALEX ARE!

Edit: Done, feel free to lock the thread now.

Just for some little fun for those who know how to write them and know the timeline of both RP Threads. Courage Bell and Charles Nelson are free to be used for any sort of writing. May it be during their time as Anvalan Guards, origin stories about them, or after this whole situation in the Guild.

The thread is now locked. I'm just going to assume you have that kind of authority over the thread even though you aren't the original poster. Look at me being the irresponsible mod.

So, I'm back with some free time on my hands, so should we open the Skies again and go forth as usual, or has this plot been going on for so long that it has died to a point that it needs to be wrapped up and move on. Comments.

I like having my internet up again, I'm all for something, while this current plot has somewhat outstayed it's welcome it still needs a conclusion, which I assume you have?

Also I love you Bdr, always remember that.

It maybe a bit complicated and I didn't have something in mind. But since I left for basic I have to plot things down again. I may pm a rough outline of it to people.

Hmm, so far I havent written any content, but with the knowledge of the Tiger and Deer arriving, BdrLine needs to think of something with his sister. As for Alex and the others, I may need a small summary of what's to happen at the dinner party. The rest can be sorted out if we get a call going or so. As of now this whole thing is going to be thought out instead of the spontaneous writing that we usually do. So once it is finished with a ending, we can go back to the old routine.

The idea with Alex and Richard was that they were going to infiltrate as servants (someone had to do it right?) without the full knowledge of what the others were doing. I kind of wanted to give them a more impulsive personality but that's beside the point.

Points From The Beginning:

-Infiltrate the Compound (Achieved)
-Assume identity (Achieved)
-Suddenly enter the dinner party and see Bdrline and find that their plan for total and unabashed destruction has failed (Yet to be achieved)

Pretty much all I had, Alex and Richard at this point are only armed with side weapons (Alex's Revolver and Richard has a pistol) and really are only going to get themselves in a ton of trouble in the long run, the rest of the crew can only follow whatever plan is decided in the meeting under Zankeif's warehouse.

Yay. RP'ing is starting back up. Though i'm very new to things so how do i go about contributing? I would very much like to be a part of this

Jester at the moment I am currently making an ending to tie up the current quest/adventure/thing-y-y-y. Once that is done, if you have read previous threads, people usually write themselves in, be it entering the Saloon looking for a swig or conversation, or just happen to be in the city where people are located. Simple or grand, that's just the jist, and it's formatted like a script or a scene. But once I wrap this ordeal up I may continue with the Skies thread, starting off either in the Saloon or Inn, or make another thread altogether.(Which I have an idea of where to go and what todo next)

If ya make a new thread, that'll make it stick in with my current document naming convention.

Okay, so I haven't been on the forums much in the past and I have no clue as to the state of No Limit.

I did have a chat with Bdr a while back and he did state he did have an end in mind, but I'm not sure how far off it was.

Having said that, Zill and myself have had small discussions here and there about possibly revamping the end of Burning Skies (I kinda need to fix the time span in the ending because I'm pretty sure I screwed that up royally when it was posted) and making a continuation of Burning Skies.

Now what does this mean for No Limit? Well, that's where it gets a bit tricky.
First, I realized I had no end game for the arc I had written in the thread. If Zill and I figure more things out, then that whole arc is non-cannon.

Second, for those who have posted in No Limit, it will likely have no impact due to the continuation of Burning Skies not affecting those characters (probably those who are not affiliated or loosely affiliated with Merry Men in that universe). However, there is a high chance that characters who have had substantial interaction with MM in this RP will be affected and as a consequence will cause conflicts between No Limit and the continuation. Which given how some parts might be okay and others not, brings me to...

Third, because of potential inconsistencies cause by a Burning Skies continuation, it could just cause the whole No Limit thread to be considered non-cannon. Zill and I recognize this is a worst-case scenario because of the time and effort you all have put into this since the end of Burning Skies.

So, if you made it this far, you're probably wondering what is the point of all of this and what am I asking. Well, two things. First, I'd like to hear from everyone that's posted their thoughts on a Burning Skies continuation. Second, I'd like to hear from you guys the state of No Limit and if there's any other issues I haven't noted.

Clear Skies,
Yiski

We can finish the Limit, and then link it back to the Burning Skies and go off it again...

I've passed the baton, but No Limits is still close to my heart.

That said, things change and evolve. I don't think the effort and content poured into No Limit is deminished if it becomes NonCanonical. Plasma was sorta hanging around the end of Burning Skies, but I would have no problem with a reboot/remix.

No Limits has belonged to Bdr for a while now. It's really up to him!

I wasn't around for/didn't do anything for either Burning Skies or No Limit, but I'd be interested in participating in a Burning Skies reboot after hearing the stories.  :)

I'd be willing to contribute with rather irregular posting schedules, probably with a different or similar cast of characters, probably scaled down a lot. It'll be fun.
