Title: Burning Skies Saloon Side Quest: The Chase
Post by: Yiski on February 26, 2013, 11:28:35 am
--START DAY ONE OF QUEST--

*Yiski enters the docks at first light and doesn't see the others*
*Talking to himself*
Well, looks like I'm early. I guess I'll chat with some of the workers to pass the time.

Well hello there, Yiski. Ready to once again set the skies alight?

Well hello there, Yiski. Ready to once again set the skies alight?

*Yiski turns to N-Sunderland*

Of course, it's been awhile since I've gone through the skies. Been even longer since I've blasted anything from the skies.

*A loud bang is heard, followed by a few four letter words afterwards. Zill gives the engine one more whack and it bursts to life*

Ugh finally! This damned thing never did like moonshine, but itll learn.

*Drags himself over to Yiski, the smell of moonshine on his clothes*

Pick your gun old friend and ill have the guys fit her on. Ammo's in the warehouse. I have something special for you in the back. *Hands an old key to Yiski*

*Turns to Sunderland*

How you holding up after everything?

I'm not great, but I've engineered under worse conditions before.

I dunno. Sky will keep you plenty busy I imagine. He runs into everything in even a slight breeze.

*hears the engine sputter on Zill's Spire as well as the ongoing conversation , BdrLineAzn hops down from Skyraider's Goldfish*

Really Zill out of the couple of times I served on your ship, you are still using moonshine. But besides that I already installed the new radio systems on both ships. As well as I send in a line the the dockmaster down south, looks like our bird man is flying a outfitted pyra. Only thing unusual about it is that it's has black colors on it. oh and here are the frequencies for ship to ship and the one for my docks.

*hands out a piece of paper with numbers on them*

*Gets the key from Zill*

If you're thinking what I'm thinking then you sure know how to make a fella feel special. Can't see why you never got yourself a lady. Alright, I'll go see what we can put on.

*Yiski leaves and comes back*

I'm having the workers outfit the ship with a hwacha. I figured it'd be useful for both killing and disabling. Now let's see about this surprise.

*Yiski heads to the ammo storage. A yell is heard which can be heard over all the noise in the docks*

By the skies Zill, I didn't realize my experimental rounds were released yet? I put those orders for them years back. How'd you get those lazy bastards to get you these round in these quantities?

*Yiski holds up a round. Further inspection of the round confirm Yiski's suspicion. The round is built like that of a lesmok, but with the additional stopping power of a lochnagar with none of the nasty consequences.*

*A gigantic grin comes across Yiski's face. Many outside Anvala knew of his feared reputation as a marksman gunner.*

May the skies have mercy on the poor souls who'll get hit by this because I won't.

Yes BdrLine, I will always get my engines running on moonshine. I dont plan to make this journey last the rest of my lifetime. And that Radio makes one hell of a racket. Hope it likes dust.

*Gets the key from Zill*

If only you could see my face when we put in the order. I worked a little Council magic with varying legality to get these quantities. Struck in in the grand city herself. Youre looking at the only stockpile of this ammo. Only fitting you get to shoot it first.

*Beckons the workers to outfit a front gatling gun, side flamer, and banshee.*

Get it on nice a tight. There will be hell to pay when I get back if you screw it up again like last trip.

*Yiski looks around the dock*

Hmm.... doesn't look like the others have gotten here yet? They better get here soon because I think I can hear the Hellfire barrels settling.

*Yiski motion the workers to keep the barrels agitated and away from heat.*

*Yiski motion the workers to keep the barrels agitated and away from heat.*

*Looks up at the sun and takes in a deep breath*

Sand storms will be here soon. Lets hope those drunken gasbags get here soon. Might as well have some Hellfires to pass the time.

*Looks across the yard to see the silhouette of a woman walking towards the docks, her old officer medals worn for luck as they glean in the sunlight. Any man would be a fool to deny her looks, only second to her work with a pipe wrench. Her outfit torn in a few places, the yeshian recruit uniform was fully kitted to handle the repairs she would be likely to handle. Jun'ko Zane enters the yard and approaches the group*

Word has it a Spire was docked here and I thought id show up early to believe it. Knowing you Zill, Id say the tanks are full of Moonshine, youre full of the better part of Kerosene, and Im to fix your blunders. I swear this never gets old.

*Zill inspects her for a good minute before responding*

Ah Jun'ko, its always a pleasure to make you work. You get so fiesty when i do. Feel free to take what you need from the warehouse. I got a special wrench for you in the back as well. Yiski has the key so may as well play nice eh?

*Steps through the main gate to the docks, flinging the courier bag to the other shoulder and hastily makes his way to the group*

Ah, there we are. I ain't late for the party am I, huh? I almost forgot to pack my lucky cuttlery!

*Looks around him, spots the new "girl" and quickly hides his officer's cap in minor fright*

That's not an imperial guard is it?

*walks down the docks, but isn't looking up... Instead he's rummaging through his toolkit, mumbling to himself*

Where is my crescent wrench? I know I didn't leave it on that Goldfish clunker...

*even though he isn't watching where he's going, he still manages to avoid bollards, crates, runaway pets, and the passed out drunkard on the ground*

Top o' the morning to ya! ...or is it afternoon? I kinda lost track of time. I met a greasy lass during my adventures last night and showed her my good side, if you know what I mean. I didn't get to sleep until after sunrise, so my clock is all messed up.

I see Skyraider's vessel, but not him. I better go check out the ship and see what's already broken...

*climbs aboard with the mooring line*

*looks over at the three newcomers*

*to Jun'ko*

Why isnt it an old family friend. You're not here to take me back to my family, because the last time I wired them they were mad as hell for when I disappeared, but let me stay out here since I've become competent. Hope they didn't change their minds.

*walks up to Spoon and whispers*

She is far worse than an Imperial guard, trust me on that

*yells at Psyran on the Goldfish*

If you break anything on that ship I'll go up ther and personally use my own tools to fix you up

*back to Zill*
*laughs*

Well it's the best that I've got in tech. but if you hear music or other chatter it's either from me or that it picked up other frequencies

*Yiski looks to Jun'ko. Gives her a nod*

Heard you've crewed with Zill before. If he's allowed you to crew with him before, then I've got no question you're good enough. So it's a pleasure to be workin with you.

*Yiski tosses her the key to the warehouse*

Aside from my ammo being loaded up, I did see some nice tools in there so I'm gonna figure it's for you.

*Yiski heads onto Zill's spire to load up his new rounds and yells as he's walking*

If anything blows up, it's not my fault.

*allows BdrLineAzn's comment to break his concentration and accidentally smashes his thumb with his mallet*

Son of a... Bloody little...

*peeks his head over the side of the rail*

Apparently, the only thing I'm breaking is myself. This port thruster is all screwy. The inverter was installed upside-down, so the leads are touching the harness when the ship lists to port, causing a ground. It's going to take me the better part of the afternoon to fix this.

*Jun'ko heads to the back and comes back starry eyed*

This cannot possibly be what I think it is Zill. A long lost gear driver wrench lost in the old wars? They are rumored to rebuild like a spanner and rebuild like a mallet. I don't know what to say....

*Zill gives a blank stare for another minute before responding*

You dont have to say anything. Now you have no excuse for letting my armor get tore up like last time, unless you keep staring at Yiski or something.

*Jun'ko gets lost in thought before shaking her head and yelling at Psyran*

We don't have all afternoon. Turn it clockwise and keep the leads to starboard. I can reverse the harness to quit the grounding. These tools need breaking in on something other than Zill's head.

*She climbs up and shoots a glance back at BdrLine*

I remember your family. Never did like them. Good to see something good came out of it. *Winks*

*Zill shakes his head and murmers*

Shes going to have a hay-day with these guys...

*Yells up to Yiski*

Like hell it isnt. You break my Hwacha and youll be hangin' by your pants off the bow.

Did we have any clue were this bird-man might have went, other than south?

*Hears the question over the railings and yells down*

Nope, but when we get to Sarin we can ask some of the locals. What few ships head south typically pass by Sarin. Pretty sure the locals can tell us where Birdman and his galleon are headed.

Well, this day had a slow start, but I feel that it's going to be an interesting journey towards Sarin. Still can't believe that we're sending two ships to hunt down a flare gun that he threatened to burn the Cantina down with.

*Nods his mask toward Sky*

I want a 24 hour watch while we are chasing this character. I dont like surprises unless im givin' em. Spear formation (in-line) on our way out, and line formation (side by side) once we hit the town limits. I'll give you more when we are up and outta' here.

*Beckons Jun'ko on the ship and tells the deck hands to let fly. The engines burst with life from their moonshine fuel. The balloon, filled with an air/hydrogen mix, inflates rapidly. Zill bows his head and says a prayer to his crew and on the radio.*

By the Skies we fly this day. Off into the Sunset to give chase. May the Winds stay at our back. Our Dusty Mistress be appeased. Our Mugs ever full. Onwards ye' Dogs, Into the Fray.

*He draws a breath of the dry air and pulls up, his lumbering Spire complying with ease. Jun'ko sees to the engines, with Yiski and PapaP on watch. We Didn't Survive thrusts out of the docking area and on to skies anew, followed closely by Sky in the Mercury.*

Yiski, join me at the helm. Its been a long time since we had this view together.

I've always loved the view from up here. It's also a pretty great spot to jump down from. I've got quick access to the hull, guns, balloon, helm, and to a certain extent, the engines.

Damn, Zill was right about that sandstorm can't send a straight signal. hmm well if i can't reach them maybe i can dig up some information.

Hey Niko you awake, i need a help with something

In the capital of Chang-ning at a manor, a Yeshan man around his twenties hears the radio and stumbles out of bed

Who the hell is calling at this hour *picks up the headset and hears Azn* Oh well looks who comes back from the dead but sure what do you need.

Docks

Well hello to ya *smirks a little* but can you go to the Imperial Library and find out who's been visiting there that is not a scholar.....you can..... thanks for that....ugg payment,ok i send you a barrel of Anvala's Finest......TWO!?!? fine ok. thanks again

Now i hope Roland is willing to sell two barrels

--NARRATOR--

Despite the heavy storms hitting the ships. Both Zill and Skyraider can't find a suitable area to take cover under. Even though the storm is effecting the radio reception, Zill and Skyraider decide to throw moonshine in the engines in hopes to exit the storm sooner (much to the dismay of each ships' engineers).

Eventually, both ships emerge from the storm and on the horizon a small town can be seen.

It's Sarin.

Both ships manage to dock into Sarin's small dockyard and Zill and Skyraider take stock of how much damage their ships incurred. Fortunately, the captains' decision to blitz the storm was a wise one. Most of the ships damage are cosmetic and no permanent damage to the engines.

The captains' decide the damage can be ignored and make the call to find the nearest inn/tavern to rest up and find any additional information on either Birdman or Soaring Wing.

It's mid evening and the team has found an inn to stay. Most of the team decide to get some sleep. Only two still awake: Yiski and Zill.

--END NARRATOR--

*Yiski, Zill, and the Sarin dockmaster are sitting at a table inquiring about Birdman.*
*Inkeeper says to the two*

"Yeah, I know th' fella you described. He wasn't here no more than a day ago. When I saw him, he was all quiet and such and that mask of his just makes 'em more... odd.  It also looked like he had a couple of workers too. Not the powder monkeys or deckhands, but more like general laborers."
"I tried to be friendly and ask what's he doing out in these parts, but other guy, probably his guard or something, told me to back off. When I turned around, I swear I could hear him mumble somethin'."

*Yiski faces the dockmaster*

Do you remember what he said?

"Somethin' about some ol' loot from the pre-world I think."

*Give a blank stare for a moment*

Pre-world eh? Anything back from then is either so rotten its useless or so complicated its beyond our capabilities. If this guy is out looking for it, we can only assume he knows what he's after. Laborers tell me its not just laying around in a cave either. Gotta' dig.

*Turns to Yiski*

He knows what hes after and with that map, will not waste time to find it. What he plans to do with whatever it is is still unknown. Damn the Sands.

I'll need time to do further research on this "Pre-world" tech! I'll need awhile, I might be able to do somethin' while we are docked.
*Thinks to self*
So many loose ends, what is the "Pre-world" tech, well guess who's gettin' nein sleep tonight.

*Dockmaster gets up*

"Well, sorry if I couldn't give you fellas more of a definitive answer"

*Yiski stops the dockmaster*

No, no, you've been helpful in the matter. But before you head out, do you know what type of route the ship would take going further south?

*Dockmaster sits back down and thinks for a minute*

"Hmm.... the best place to head would be Cathedral. It's one of those large cities, and looking at the size of the galleon and its accompanying ships, they'd have to head there to do any sort of resupply.

*Dockmaster turns to Zill*

"If you got a map of the middle plains region, you'd want to head south to Pila, then Ranad, Bannan's Rest, and finally Cathedral. All in all, you're looking at least 3 days travel, 4 if you take short breaks."

BdrLineAzn's Docks

*after what seems hours a clear reception comes through*

Finally a connection. I bet that storm gave them quite a time.

*dials in the frequencies again*

Zill, Sky looks like i've got some news for ya. Once you guys left a thought came to mind. Only reason we are on this mission is that Spoon said that  the flare gun had a hidden map. But if i remember correctly from the saloon birdman left the auction house with it dismantled. Only way he knows there is a map is if he has a man back in Yesha. Right now i've have a friend of mine to go check in the morning who visited that wasn't a scholar. Also since not everyone was here when i told you, but apparently birdman has some more friends. While i was installing the radios i send in a wire to Sarin and ask if there was anything suspicious, what ive got back was that they spotted a modify pyra with black markings on along with a galleon. but i'll give you a call when i recieve more news.

*Hears the radio*
I understand, make sure you get this information to Zill as well, I probably will pass out from this work, don't expect me to relay this information to him.
*Turns back to his work once again, but picks up a paper*
The German "Wetter Produzent", made before the end of the Great War, lost due to massive bombardments, underground facility was..... To bad the note ends.
Out of character
I'll be on later, don't start or anything
End out of character

*Pats Yiski on the back*

We have our route. In the morning we make ready for the trip. I dont do short breaks. We are skirting the Burren as well, so raiders will most likely be a issue.

*They head back to the Inn when Jun'ko comes running out to them*

I overheard BdrLine sending a message. I wrote it down. Sky is in there sniffing through books and generally being weird. Creeped me out some...

*Zill and Yiski read the message*

Looks like BdrLine is a tad late to figure the ships out. The friends might help us figure out what hes after.

--NARRATOR--

As the team now have their course plotted for Cathedral, those still awake head to bed. By morning, the team will be heading out at first light. The path won't be easy. Raiders have increased their presence in the Burren.

--END NARRATOR--

END DAY ONE OF QUEST
(No posts. I'm looking at you Skyraider.)

--START DAY TWO OF QUEST--

-NARRATOR-

The sun rises on the second day of the team's quest. Unsurprisingly, the entire team is already downstairs having breakfast and talking.
The conversation mainly hinges on the engineers complaining about keeping the engines alive while blitzing through the previous day's storm.

As the team finishes up breakfast, Yiski gets the attention of everybody.

-NARRATOR END-

Alright folks, here's the plan.

*Yiski lays out the map of the Burrens*

We'll be heading south to Pila next, then Ranad, Bannan's Rest, and finally Cathedral. The trip without breaks will take 3 days max assumin' we don't run into any raiders.

Get whatever you'll need for the next 3 days. We'll meet at the docks at high noon.

*Stares at the map for a minute and then back to everyone*

Keep your wits about you and your spyglass clean. The months havent softened the raiders in and around The Burren. The latest squeeze on their raids have made 'em desperate.

By my account, the skies will be clear. Now hurry up, this be a chase after all.

*Starts to cleaning rifle after checking the map*

Been months since I last ran into some raiders, if I find the one's that wrecked my ship then... *mumbles*

This is a quest summary. For the sake of time. Saloon will reopen tomorrow when I have it unlocked (whenever that is).
