So, you've just bought Guns of Icarus, and after a while of playing other classes you decide to man up and fly for the first time. The vets say the Goldie is one of the easiest ships to learn on so you hop in the captains slot... And then you fail miserably.
Why did you fail so hard, you flew well, you pointed your gun at the enemy, shot them over and over, they didn't die and then the turned around and smacked you upside your face.
Wait I know why! You're flying a Flak Fish for goodness sakes, A FLAK FISH @&#%^*#
Seriously, I try to help out new players when I see them but I can't help them all out all the time and it just saddens me to see people with the best intentions fail so hard without understanding why.
-
Yeah this would help seeing as most new players tend to have no clue there is a reverse button and close range. Or just, return the heavy flak to what it once was. Make it usable again.
-
Is it just the Goldfish that suffers from this? What are the other default loadouts?
-
They fixed most of them a month ago. The Pyra is still messed up (gat flamethrower maybe?) but they sort of did that intentionally to discourage new players from using it or something.
-
Oh damn, no, the Flak is just mad on a Goldfish as a starting layout. You can't expect a new player to know about the 1.2 second arming time, etc. I don't like the Hwacha much, but I guess it would be the best here as a starting layout.
Supposedly most new players just close in with the other ship, and then the Hwacha works just fine. Lumberjack is long range again, Heavy Carronade goes for the balloon - which in turn requires knowledge of the damage types or what to aim for. Hwachafish as a standard. Sad but helpful :P
-
Ok time to revive my dead thread to bring this back to Muse's attention.
Please, think of the newbies!!!

What if all ships started with no loadout? It would at least force players to actually choose weapons for their ships.
I wouldn't be surprised if some new players had no idea that they could change their loadouts.

Sounds horrible, people would be loading into games with no guns :X
-
Well obviously it wouldn't let them join a game and there would be a warning window that tells them they haven't fully loaded their ship yet :P
-
Well in defense of Muse, new or not players are assumed to possess the gift of literacy. So if it says long range then use it as such. If you’re in a Captain spot as any other class you failed. If your 100m away with a heavy flak, you fail.

All in favor of a Hwacha as the front gun on the starter fish say aye!

Hawachafish is where I first got my wits about piloting.
Like most people, I just jumped in with the Galleon. I believe I actually used lumber/flak/Merc on one side and Carro/Hawacha on the other, but the friends I was playing with were fresh from CoD, so they couldn't shoot for shit.
I probably couldn't pilot for shit either.
Anyway, got tired of being blown up, but I didn't want to give up my Hawacha (which, of course, seemed OP as hell) so I tried Goldfish.
Hawachafish turned me from god-awful pilot to the acceptable pilot I am today.
Definitely change default.

I hear the Hwacha is already the bane of beginner games. Give 'em Carronades as they want to charge so much.
