Title: Questions About The SPECTATOR
Post by: N-Sunderland on February 24, 2013, 01:00:39 pm
I decided not to contaminate the proper boards with this, so here we go in the Pit...

Here you may ask any questions about spectator strategies, and I will do my best to answer them.

I've always wondered- couldn't a spectator give away the locations of traps, starting positions and respawns to teams? I know this isn't currently exploited, but hey, it is a viable option.

Yup. You could say "Hey red team, the blue Pyra just respawned at 3,1! Oh yeah, and that Goldfish is at 50% health, and they have chem spray running, so don't bother trying to burn them too much."

We even have a name for that strategy. It's called "being an ass".

So you can try it if you want, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

Not saying I was gonna try it, but it is a tactic for the Spectator. It would take a serious arse to do it, though.

I certainly wasn't implying you'd try it. I understand that you're an honest player. If somebody started doing this in a tourney, it would most definitely be grounds for disqualification. In fact, Qwerty's Fjords stream was played on a delay to ensure that nobody would watch it and cheat.

Ah, no hard feelings then :) Speaking of which, I know the numbers of spectators were limited as they created more lag issues, but it would be nice to view the games live, rather than through a stream. Surely for some of the bigger games they could perhaps pop open a slot or two more. They can't impact that much.

Yeah, that would be pretty useful. But with the way things are now with lag, I think that it would be best to limit the problem rather than potentially encourage it. I'd love to see more spectator slots in the future, though.

I'm not sure if I'm using it incorrectly, but it seems that when I spectate... the movement is extremely slow and sometimes I'm spawned beneath the surface. It really doesn't seem like a very good mechanic, but that's just my observation.

Yeah, that happens. I find it best when I just sit back and follow the ship I'm interested in. It's also pretty interesting if you are a pilot and want to see some moves. To my knowledge, it's number keys to follow ships, and I think (very easily wrong here, Sunder correct me) 'T' for ship health

(Corrected that for yea. Zill)

If you want to go around freely, press 0 to free the camera. Then, hold b down to increase the speed.

What is the spectators favorite team?
