Hello all!
I am playing this game a while now, (2,5 week or so) and I am astonished that there is no borderless windowed mode in this game. Now I checked if Unity currently supports this, and yeap they do.
http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/108430-Borderless-window-fullscreen-windowed-mode (Confirmation that Unity supports it)
Now, if Muse only has to implement it with minimal effort, what is holding them back? I mean, this should be seriously standard and especially since this is becoming some kind of MMO. But also because sometimes you just have to wait a while before a match starts, and borderless windowed mode makes things just a lot easier... (People with multiple screens would seriously benefit from this)
So if it's easy, make it happen please ^^ And if it's not easy, I like to know why it's not easy (Out of curiosity ;))
Anyways, keep up the good work! The game is awesome!
Cheers,
Leon

At the moment I'm using openbox to provide my boardless window mode, mainly because it tends to be a lot more stable than fullscreen (less crashes).
It really should be an option without hax.
-
Just one reaction? Doesn't anyone miss this?
-
I never play in windowed, so it doesn't make a difference to me. I imagine it's the same for most regular players.
-
As another multimon user, I also run virtually every multiplayer game in windowed mode. Borderless windowed mode is a feature I would like to see.

Borderless window mode typically refers to a window stretched so that the application fills the screen without showing the titlebar, making it look identical to fullscreen mode. It is typically used to play the game in fullscreen while allowing you to instantly and safely alt-tab back and forth between the game and other applications like a web browser. For some users, running the game in this "windowed" mode dramatically increases performance. Alt-tab crashes are almost a nonissue. Some games will run in borderless window mode by default without letting the player know they're not actually in true "fullscreen" such as Vindictus.
GoI tabs in and out rather quickly for me, but I don't think it's actually running in borderless window mode. It'd be a very welcome feature for a lot of people, I imagine.

Oh yeah, I totally understand why it would be a big help, I was just suggesting a reason as to why there haven't been many responses.

Passing -popupwindow via the steam launch stuff (as per that link) seems to work perfectly, so there's that until (if) muse put a checkbox in :P
-
Bump! :) It should be done through the menu's of Guns of Icarus :)
-
I've put "-popupwindow" as a launch option but see no difference, is this a MS windows thing?
-
This is pretty much the first thing I check for with new games, I would love to see it added to GoI and I know a few of my friends would too
-
I am often working with 3 screens and since this game is becoming an MMO, I would really want it in the game. :) It's better to have raised the problem now, then a lot further into development :)
-
Bump this for sanity! :)

Bump.

More games need borderless window mode, it just is so damn useful when you have multiple screens, makes the game more stable too since you don't have to practically minimize it to do something else very shortly.

Go into Steam, right click on guns of icarus -> Properties -> Launch options and type in "-popupwindow"
Taadaa, Borderless window mode.
Cheers

Still is better to have it right there in the options menu because not everyone that needs the mode is gonna even know this thread right here exists.

I'll admit it would probably be nice to have the option be push button. Now you know how to do it so you can tell others. Knowledge is a good thing to pass around.
Tell people in game. I mean it took me ten minutes of research/asking to find that answer. Anyone who has had the misfortune of using windows should know how to look this kind of stuff up.

It's not always they remember to do it, that and very many games nowadays do not support borderless window so it is not apparent the game even can support this, I say put it in the damn options menu and be done with it.
In short: Many probably wouldn't because they'd just think the game doesn't support it whatsoever since it's not in the options menu.

It's pretty obvious that Guns of Icarus supports borderless windowed, since it is running on the Unity engine, I am mentioning a link in my first post.

I just tried the -popupwindow and it is working, though my mouse cursor moves out of screen which is pretty annoying, it should be locked in the game. (I don't have this in matches, just in main menu).
-
I actually like it like that in the menus because i can go load music between rounds. HOWEVER IIRC there is an option to lock the mouse until you alt tab but i never looked it up.

not everyone looks up what the engine for a game is capable of, heck, most don't care, they just look in the options and think it doesn't support borderless window if it isn't in the menu, I didn't know unity supports borderless windowed until you said it right now.

Making assumptions about what users know about a game/engine and its capabilities is not good. Users sharing information to work around the lack of a direct implementation of a feature is perfectly fine and people should do so for as long as that feature (I.e border less windowed mode) isn't put as an actual option in the game.
But if Muse decides they feel border less windowed mode is something desired by plenty of people then the response won't be or shouldn't be "type this command here in steam." It will be them implementing an actual option into the game. You shouldn't assume people know how to figure out things even as simple as typing a short command into steam.
