I'd pay money to make my Gatling gun look different from my opponents. Functionally identical but looks cooler then th stock weapon skins.
-
Works in many other games, good idea.. I'll throw it to muse :)
-
The question here quickly becomes "Who gets to chose the skins?". Captains already get a disproportionate ability to change appearance because of ship themes and balloon decals, but there is no good way to give crew the ability to change things on a pilot's ship. As much a Counterstrike player as I am, I don't foresee weapon skins any time soon.
-
Awsome idea! Since the captain already can change the skin of the ship, why not let the gunner change the guns with his skins. Maybe the engineer change the looks of differend components, or some fancy flare during stamina use.
-
How about this-
To outside viewers of the ship, they appear as the captain has set them.
To crew, they appear as they have set them.
-
On War Thunder, you can give your planes some really nice skins but no one can see them apart from me, the pilot. Perhaps a similar implementation can be made, Only crew can see skins?

Sorta like mine-

Or we could get new content that affects the game..

yes please

This is coming anyway, and they're working on Alliance
So
Yeah
Skins pls

They've BEEN working on that for a LONG time. I'd rather get marginal updates for a few months and them release it before the year is done, rather than them working on silly stuff constantly and release Alliance in 2020.
-
Skins are easy, though.
Hell, they could use ones from Alliance
-
The art side of the dev team are busy with Alliance at the moment but it is something on their list of things to look at, they like the idea. :)
-
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHH
Thanks, Kamo.

Oh, umm..
I did mention just the gattling, but that wasn't the only gun I was thinking of. Skins for all guns?
A gun firing belt-fed banshee rockets pops to mind.
Im sure there are plenty of ideas floating around somewhere
-
I never liked the Hwachas lion heads, I've always thought of it as the Artemis rocket launchers bigger brother and imagine a rusted version of this:
-
While this is a neat idea, I do have one concern -
A lot of people, including myself, use parts of the gun models to help line up shots (e.g. mine launcher hinge). Constantly changing guns, especially if they were set by someone else, might make this a bit tricky.

A very valid argument.

Really? I thought of it as a bigger Banshee.
-
Banshee is their little sister. Always running around screaming her head off.
-
I still like the idea.

Oh most perfectly. Its not like these are mandatory skin changes. I think its not a bad idea that crewmembers can choose the gun skins on ships they serve on. They can shock and awe new captains using stock skins with their customised tools of death they bring on board.

If pilots get ship themes, gunners get weapon skins, and engineers get sweet cheetah print spanners
-
I can see it now......A pilot has a badass looking theme, then someone takes a hot pink flamethrower...........

Better yet, the flames are hot pink

Who doesn't want a rainbow unicorn on the head of their ship?
-
That's just a figurehead!
...but I still want it.

I always thought it would be best if pilots have final call on what everything on their ship looks like. However, to compromise, the pilot's choices could include whatever gun skins their gunners purchased/won. To add to the fun, some gun skins could only be used if you gunner earned them through achievements, thus making it very clear you have a high level gunner on your ship.
As far as aesthetics, I would have to give cosmetic ammo effects to gunners. This would include muzzle flash, tracers, and particle effects.
Engineers would give the pilot the same extra choices for balloon and hull repair point skins.

Custom, hand loads
Justifiable

Oooh yes, show off your flashy bullets of death upon your hapless foes locked in shock and awe at the pweedy fireworks.
And custom hard points that can be shown off by the victors of a game
