I seem to be a total noob. I go to my settings and click on 3v3. I queue as pilot or gunner. Then it says it needs eleven more players. Content to wait I browse the net. Suddenly I'm in a 2v2!
I've tried a few different ways but seem to get placed in 2v2 despite my best efforts. How do I get into a 3v3 match?

Create a custom 3v3 match, then open it to the matchmaking queue.

Ah yes I tried this after posting and it gave me a message approximately stating "Need nine more players before this lobby can be queued". I'm starting to think the new matchmaking really doesn't want me to play 3v3!

so it requires you to get a certain number of friends in the lobby before it'll allow you open it up to the matchmaker?

I can confirm this, that you cannot simply open a custom game to the queue until you reach a certain amount of players in the custom lobby. I tried making a custom scrap for achievement lol

yeah...that's...unexpected and annoying. I could see the need for some players before it starts, but 9 is excessive - you basically need a clan to start it.
which, well, largely was the case with the old match list too, but I was expecting an improvement with the matchmaker.

3v3s have been fairly rare since patch, and I don't think I've seen a single 4v4. Probably for this reason. :/

They addressed the 3v3 issue in the Fireside Chat today and said that it was to help prevent there being multiple 3v3s in the queue that will never fill up... Maybe if we had a match list we could see if there's already a 3v3 before starting one. :P
