Title: Naming policy and roman god "Janus"
Post by: Allons-GER on July 31, 2014, 02:39:29 am
Hi all,

after building my brand new galleon i had to learn that naming it after the double faced roman god "Janus or "Ianus" seems to fulfill one of the following restrictions:

Quote
We do not permit names that:

1. Include profanity.
2. Have offensive racial, ethnic, or national connotations.
3. Include hate speech or bigoted slurs.
4. Reference sexual acts or real-life violence.
5. Are pornographic.
6. Make inappropriate references to anatomy or bodily functions.
7. Reference illegal activities.
8. Include or resemble the real names or handles of Muse Games employees or representatives.
9. Include or resemble official roles (Muse, GM, Mod, etc.) such that they might mislead or confuse.
10. Use misspellings or alternative spellings of names that violate any of the above rules.

I´d like to know what exactly is the problem otherwise suggest to scratch this name from the list.

Happy hunting, Allons!

It contains "anus". The filter isn't exactly clever ;)

I had a ship name blocked by the word basement before. I was very confused at first.

If at all possible I'd like the filter to not turn into one of those korean mmo filters (you know the ones...where you can't even carry on a normal conversation).

I think the profanity filter for chat is fine, but should not exist at all for ship names and player names.

I think a community based flag for profanity (for both names and ship names) is a much better idea - we've all seen fairly inappropriate ship and player names, that this filter does nothing to catch (esp ones that are deliberate misspellings or euphemisms), while here are 2 examples of extremely innocuous names that it does catch.
