How do the captains communicate with each other in the world of Guns of Icarus? Carrier pigeon, can on a string, signal flags, signal flares, smoke signals, or do they have standard radio communication.

Wow! that looks fancy Rainer. Almost to fancy to talk into.

Found it on ze interwebs.

It has always been my profound belief that by holding down the 'C' key I give myself psychic powers - allowing me to communicate telepathically with my co-captains. This doesn't explain Party Chat though so my theory has been dropped.
Given how technology is slowly being developed and discovered in the newly emerging world, it would not surprise me if a few crystal radio sets or CB radios had been found in the carcasses of settlements and reverse engineered.
I also like the idea of using the old maritime flag system or perhaps morsecode?
-
Radio has long been an established part of the universe, or at least the RPs, with morse code also being used.

i use smoke signals, ironically after i am attacked and on fire it seems to help, i make it a game if they can get to me before i die, i give them a commendation haha
-
Spud, you made all the best threads. It's a mystery, it is.

I like to think we have a huge megaphone to yell at the ally captains through, and the other team's guys just cover their ears and that's how we pretend to have high technology communications [*smiley face*]
-
from experience i can tell you that we first used tin cans being tied to each other with a string. but that didn't really work out.
now just use low whale frequencies to communicate with each other. you dont hear this as an engineer or gunner, but pilots are trained by creating low signals with their nostrils and listen to other captains as the feel the vibration on their steering wheel that is created by the low frequencies of other captains as the ship responds by sending vibrations to the helm.
later we thought this had become a silly idea so now we fly close with eachother and just scream our lungs out our body so high that an average person cannot hear it except a well trained captain.

wait, captains are supposed to communicate with eachother?

Don't know if BFS communicates though.

Body language, here's how it goes:
moving - he's playing
not moving - he's afk

but when you are on the helm you don't see eachother moving unless the ship is moving. I sense a flaw in your system.

Easy, that's why we have a special code. every 3 seconds you do two jumps, do a 270° CW turn, make another jump, turn 180° CCW, do three jumps and with the last jump a 90° CW turn.

Ok I dont know how but that's the combination of my safe...

Are you saying your safe has a kinect?

I'm usually using one of these:

Oliver my safe indeed has a connect to make the combination more complicated.

My safe is attached to a Kinect as well. The secret is ALL of the combinations on the keypad are incorrect, the correct way to open the safe is to say "Xbox! Open safe!"

They don't communicate, they drift. Neural Handshake initiated and all that jazz.

I hope most captains would just kindly pick up that shortwave radio.

Seriously though, I think that'd be the most plausible tool. Shortwave radios were developed in the late 1910s and hobbyists were using them shortly after. They might be a bit bulky, but if WWI never ended in the Goio universe and people managed to build things like the Leviathan on Desert Scrap, they should be able to install a radio transmitter on an airship.
You'd need encrypted frequencies though to hide your comms from enemy ships, but that opens so many more possibilities for content!

I cast my vote for Telepathy.
Cuz', why not? We have airships, why not Telepathy?
(Plus, no character moves their mouth while speaking... -As far as I know-)
(PPS: Now, I imagine people staring at eachother's mouths, while using the voice commands. :P )
