Boarding was actually confirmed ages ago to exist by Muse.  Awkm posted this explanation (http://www.reddit.com/r/GunsOfIcarus/comments/1fgsv3/about_boardingwait_hear_me_out_a_simple_mechanic/cac688w) months and months ago so I assume he made it (and therefore this is totally canon):
