To those people that were teaching me to pilot tonight, I can't remember the names but just wanted to say thanks! I am really grateful that you put up with my rather shocking flying and were so nice about it :D It really helped and also sorry for suddenly disappearing (again), my laptop crashed :-[ hopefully it didn't ruin your game.

I was on the other ship. We won the match you're talking about. You did good.
-
I gunned for you! Lol, you did fine Icarus, and we won one of those matches right? And thanks for making it over to the forums, a salute for you sir!

A new guy that wants to learn?

Thanks guys, been reading the guides and stuff on these forums, seems there's a lot to learn still lol
-
Any time you want. You Are welcome to serve on my ship

I certainly will do if I see you on! Giving piloting a break until I've got more experience in the other two roles so if anyone's looking for a crew member I'm glad to offer my services

Guides are really useful for new players who want to learn some of the more intricate parts of the game.

I like this guy

A forum user and is willing to learn, like Spoon said, you're a good egg in my books. Hope i can see you in the skies

Thanks for all the early encouragement people :) I've stayed with the game (you might have seen me around) and have a fairly solid understanding of it now. Was just wondering if anyone would mind me adding them to my friend list? Getting a bit tired of joining random crews and would be nice to have some people I recognise on there!
I was also wondering about guilds, are they only for more experienced people or is it worth trying to join one asap?
-
well the flying dutchmen is accepting everyone who wants to join, clans/guilds will give you new friends in a very rapid way
-
If you're not using your Social tab.. start doing that before clans. Once you know who you enjoy crewing/teaming with, you'll know what clan is right for you.
Be wary of any clan (in any game) that will take anyone that applies. Those that get to know you first probably have a better community. But a clan isn't for life, and you don't need one unless you want to compete.

or the clan just want new players so they can learn and get better.

Clans in GOI tend to be less cliquish than in other games. I have people in my friends list from most of the major clans, and I have seen people from different clans flying on the same ship in pub games. I have even seen clan people split up between teams to have a more even match. GOI is a good community, any sub community that draws from a good community will invariably be a good community too.

everyone knows eachother, if you play enough you get famous
