I'd really like to be able to harpoon a mine and tow it places.
Like an enemy ship.
yep

As you know harpoons continually pull... And as you can see a mine doesn't look that heavy compared to a ship...
You will pull that mine so fast to your face you'll panic more than a zebra in a lion enclosure

Though that does seem like a formula for many a spectacular accident.

Just harpoon a mine behind you, yank it for'ard, drop the leash, hydro or vent out of the way!
(SKY TORPEDOES!)
But in all seriousness, I'd love to see an exception for mines (have 'poons work more like rope physics instead of clamp rockets).

Since mines wouldn't be applying any additional thrust in another direction, it should work more predictably than harpooning another ship.

I'd bring a four harpoon Junker with a mine launcher up front. Lay four mines, harpoon four mines, and fly around with explosive balloons following behind!

Why not lay mines and tow the harpooned ship through the mine field?

Why not lay mines and tow the harpooned ship through the mine field?
there are some considerations
- the tow mechanism works both ways so the ship with the most mass+ directional speed wins on deciding the direction of both ships
- ships fly slower backwards than they do forwards (so less directional speed)
- most ships won't come quietly - they will be shooting at you and you will have had to sacrifice some weapon slots for mines and harpoons
- the placement of the mines can be ticklish to do without directly threatening your own ship
