I say that when we get our ship customization options, and if paint jobs are one of those options, one of the paints on a Spire is a giant red and white target.
Muse is probably going to have to have a few pre-set paints to each ship, maybe even have a few unlockable/buyable. You're probably not going to be able to paint your own ship any more than coloring a few different parts with a color selector anyway, so I would rather see more complicated/fearsome/pretty designs by Muse themselves.
And COME ON, don't pretend that as soon as you see a Spire, someone doesn't come on the captain's chat and tell everyone to focus fire on that guy?
It's an easy kill if someone on your team is flying a disabler, and too much of a threat if left unchecked.
Therefore, I think turning a Spire into a literal flying target would be both clever and humorous.
As an added bonus, make it the default paint job, so it could possibly point out new pilots on the helm.

I'd rather turn it into a red-and-white striped candy cane, or barbershop pole.

I approve of this proposal. A more comical paintjob on the Spire would make obliterating them with a loogie all that much more fun! :D

The Spire would definitely have the most entertaining paint jobs, assuming Muse takes the pre-designed route with them.
Although, could you imagine something like this on the front of a Galleon?

I just had a mental image of having the spire be white with a bright red balloon so it looks like a giant lollipop.
