Title: How'd you find GoI?
Post by: Plasmarobo on June 07, 2013, 07:48:14 am
I know a bunch (or maybe just some) found this game at PAX only a few months ago.
Others encountered a steam sale, and decided to pick it up. I did both.

I'm just a bit curious, how did you first hear about/see the game?

Somebody I know started playing in beta, and when he showed it to me I was hooked. That was back in October.

I had seen the original game on steam sales over the years. Some said it was a must buy for the price but others kept saying it was a simplistic shooter and not that great. The concept had me curious so I kept an eye on it. Then I saw the Online beta added to Steam and heard of the original Kickstarter. Watched the vid. Interest perked a little more but I had a large library of Steam games unplayed and Kickstarter backing wasn't my thing. Decided I'd wait till it went on sale. Kept it in the wishlist.

Then December came and there it was 50% off. Hesitated but just looked at it again and decided, what the heck. Even bought a 4 pack cause a friend of mine is more into Steampunk stuff/etc. Now I still have a long list of Steam games to play and Guns playtime is past 500hrs. Which is double my 2nd most played game, Left 4 Dead. I haven't even had any desire to go back to BF3 which was getting close to 200hrs I think.

Oh I did finally buy the original GOI. Not for sale price either. Decided I'd do it at least to support Muse. Can't say I hate it, but can't say I like it a ton either. I like the art and the game atmosphere but the game itself reminded me some old Jaguar CD games. Not bad but like dawn of polygon gaming era level. Glad Muse gave it another go with GOIO.

About a month ago, I saw a video that was made by the youtuber that goes by the name of criken. The video itself was amazingly funny, but I also really liked how the game looked. I bought it with a couple friends and even though they essentially have left it, I've stay addicted to the game since. here's the link to the video if anyone wants to see it.

I saw it first at the Kickstarter Arcade at PAX East 2012, and thought it looked cool. Promptly forgot about it until I saw it at PAX this year. We saw it on Friday and picked up the 4-pack that night. Went back the next day and asked one of the people working the booth (turned out it was Bubbles) how not to suck. He gave us some tips on flying a gat-flak pyr.

I remember he advocated the use of Tar Barrel too.

"It's actually a lot more powerful then people think!"
Since then I've had my off-and-on love affair with it. In CP matches it's lulz.
I think being able to talk to Bubbles really raised the profile of the game for me.

While I saw it on steam at some point, I picked it up because of the HAWP guys back a while ago.

I build a lot of random stuff in my spare time (from wargames kits to PCs to furniture).  I just happened to be attempting to build a steam punk themed airship for some wargames I was planning to do.  When I Googled steam punk airships GoI came up.

Then I went straight to Steam.

Yup, found it at PAX East back in March with Plasma and DMaximus. Went home Friday night and installed it, and then came back to the Muse booth later in the weekend to ask Bubbles how to stop failing so hard. Gave us some tips, which was pretty cool to be able to have that sort of interaction with the developer of the game.

TotalBiscuit and the guys at TGS introduced me. Saw the video they did where they fought with you guys, and the game just looked stellar.

It was recommended to me on Kickstarter, so I popped in some money because, the idea sounded interesting.

One of my friends I game a lot with told me to buy it since he and two other of his friends were playing it and having a blast and needed another crew member.  They stopped playing a week later, I didn't, that was in December.

My sister wanted someone to play with, then just bought it for me with the Steam-sale. I was like "wut" and she was like "Fly, you fool!"

Back in November, Nascosto asked me, "Which sounds more interesting <some random zombie killing game that I don't remember the description of> or flying around in steampunk zeppelins shooting down other steampunk zeppelins?" and I replied, "Well, the second is definitely more novel."

Thus, a four pack was purchased and myself, Charon, Nascosto, and Machiavelliest graced this fine world. (with unending violence)

I actually don't remember HOW I found this game, but I remember WHY I got into it.
Squash had expressed interest in playing a game that was as close to a kind of star trek bridge simulator as you'd get. With the captain in charge, the engineers, helmsmen and weapons officers all running around doing their thing to keep the ship running. So we were keeping an eye out for those kind of games. I had found one which was exactly that, a bridge simulator, I don't remember the name - but I don't think it turned out to be that great.

Then I stumbled onto this game, perhaps through a forum post on the Penny Arcade forums. I was in the middle of exam study so I mentioned it to Squash, we looked into it and it looked pretty interesting. If memory serves, we chipped in for a four pack. I couldn't play because of Uni, but Squash gave it a go and said it was exactly what we had been after. Once the semester was done I tried the game and he was right.

The rest is history.

I found Dodger's uncut POV on Youtube and it had me laughing for hours. It looked amazing and so fun. So I picked it up while it was still on sale. Haven't looked back since :)

Hello
I just saw this game on kickstarter and directly I was like: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!
I've been waiting for this kind of game for so long and it looks absolutely amazing. Will probably donate a bit when I get back home from my vacation but haven't got time right now.
...man looking through that thread reminds me of sooo many old guys which are long since gone....

I obsessively buy indie bundles, this has been going on since the very first time World of Goo went PWYW. I grabbed the Indie Royale bundle that included this game, and was instantly intrigued. I was too nervous about letting my team down due to inexperience, so I spent my first week or so exclusively in practice. I still remember joining that first real game. Turns out to be exactly what I'd always wanted in an indie game and I've logged about 500 hours since, and there's no turning back now.

Oh man, even I feel young now! I didn't back the first kickstarter. Did Thomas? I've been seeing him online.

I've learned about it during it's Kickstarter camapaign for skirmish mode (before it was known under such a name) of Goio - ie. the original kickstarter. But I didn't buack it up for various factors - i had no idea how Muse Games (or anyone else for that matter) could translate the idea into a good gameplay mechanics, it was back then when I didn't know who Muse Games were, and before Kickstarter got big.

I don't think Thomas even backed it, but I might be wrong. He joined the forums about a month after it, but he gunned for me before that ...I think

I first noticed the game when I heard someone from my clan talking about it, then I searched up GoI and got to the Kickstarter page. Read through the entire thing and decided the game looks interesting enough to try out.

Picked it up on the sale a month ago cause some friends were playing it at the time. Their attention span length is so small though that they gave up after a week. Well I still play, find this game is pretty cool.

I knew of its existance long ago though, was just waiting for it to get out of beta and be on a sale.
